As my expectations for success are so low now and that coupled with the fact I'm delighted we are at least back in a stadium I will attend in our home City, I'll be happy to bump along with it until we have at least played a few more games with our two most influential players back in the side. If we are still getting beat with our best side out and still playing a negative formation by February then things will have to change perhaps, if nothing else to try and ensure we don't get relegated. Obviously I'm hoping things can be turned round long before it comes to that.

He's had a rough deal from SISU no mistake, but he seems to have hit the buffers in terms of ideas.

He won't be given the funds to dig himself out of the hole and it's looking increasingly like he hasn't got the nous to do better with what he's got.

I'd certainly give him until Christmas though. Trouble is, if he get's punted, only a desperate, out of work manager would be foolhardy enough to take up the reins.

Im of the opinion he should go now , just dont think he can take this group of players forward . However im still happy to give it until christmas to see if he can turn things around , i dont expect to get much this month , but we have some relatively winnable games you would imagine in november /december .
think christmas has to be the longest we can give him really

he has had longer to build a team than all of our other managers in recent history and despite other off field factors, no getting away from the fact that he is managing us when we are in the lowest league position since I have been alive.

This is the worst team in my lifetime, playing some of the worst football, with only saving grace that most of the players are on 12 month deals and will be gone in a few months anyway.

I'd give him till the end of the season and start again

We have been shit no matter which manager weve had for the last 10yrs, it does seem like he and them have a longer term plan than most are prepared to accept, me, I would let it play out see what happens, what are you expecting? Success if we change managers again, cant see it myself until something is done to remove the off field shit but thats not happening anytime soon i dont think.

We may not be happy with how this shit is going right now, but there does seem to be a method in the madness, i would rather we struggle on with this one than continue struggling and adapting to another new manager every 12mths, because thats what it will be.
It may not be working right now but when was the last time you honestly thought we had a manager with a vision and plan for the future running right through the club?
It hurts to lose, thats the only constant we have had for the last 15yrs oh and whinging and manager changes and shit n more shit, constant failings right through the club from top to bottom from the last years in the premier league to now.

I voted to let him see out his contract, time will tell i guess.

Honestly I don't know, I want to give him time to turn it around but imo looking at the fixtures we will be in the relegation zone in the near future.

If after the next 5 games we've picked up 1 point, in the relegation zone and are 4 points adrift from safety do you give him the next bunch of 'easier' on paper fixtures to get us out of it or do you make an immediate change?

Micky adams & Boothroyd are seen by many Cov fans as old had playing poor quality football. However the more direct approach does have a benefit in that the manager is concentrating on the result first and foremost, he sets a team up to win, talk of style and football philosophy is secondary. PNR under Grayson were set up to win and did so very easily. not advocatinga return to hoof just think that SP needs to learn a lesson from the likes of Grayson.

Crazy to even consider it, we've got to get away from this stupid culture that assumes changing the manager will bring us instant success.

We are where we are and need to build and grow for the long-term future which is the Academy as over more years than I care to remember the spend, spend, spend policy of far to many regimes has only succeeded in increasing our debt and putting the clubs future in further jeopardy.

When was the last time changing the manager bought our club any success?
Think you might have to go back 50 years.

After Crewe on Saturday I was of the opinion that he should go. Having thought about it, and calmed after the initial annoyance. I think it would be pointless to get rid now. We need a bit of stability atm. End of the season for me.

Say we're in the relegation zone and stay within or around there for the majority of the season, then what? How long do you give him to turn it around, at what point do you change it? November, January, March or do you just give him the whole season and hope we stay up?

Pressley had said himself that the expectation is that we challenge for promotion. If he doesn't come close to achieving that, he should fall on his sword. I'll wait and see for a while longer, but if I have to watch incessant triangles between the back 5 and deep-sitting midfielders until we lose the ball for much longer, I'll start my own Pressley Out campaign. I think he's forgotten that football is a form of entertainment. Or supposed to be.

If when we have a fully fit and available first 11 we carry on as poorly as we have of late, then by Christmas the crowds will be very low, they will be getting booed off every week, and he'll have to go. I hang on to the hope that we can get some wins by Christmas, SISU will give him some money to get some players in Jan, and then we can look forward to some mid table mediocrity. There's always next season though, yeah, that'll be our year.

Sacking managers, listened to the Scunthorpe chairman on Sky sports can be harsh but soccer is harsh, first game was in 77 under Gordon Milne, don't think he was sacked not quite sure what happened to Dave Sexton but here's my opinion on all the sackings since.

Bobby Gould 84 - justified was losing the plot and Mackay kept us up
Don Mackay 86 - justified out of his depth and led to the Sillett Curtis era
Sillett 90 - outrageous decision, thought they would get 2 for 1 with Butcher as a player manager
Butcher 92 justified would have seen the club relegated
Gould resigned 93
Phil Neal - 95 harsh again club was going for the big name in BigRon
BigRon 96 justified an awful reign as manager spent loads and achieved nothing, club is still paying the price for his reign
WGS 2001 justified should have happened 9 months earlier had lost his desire in my opinion
Roland - 2002 Harsh club was in chaos, had more to give
McCallister resigned in 2004 - poor reign
Black 2004 outrageous decision based on bigname replacement Reid
Reid 2005 was a very poor appointment totally justified the sack
Adams 2007 a tough one did well to begin with but bought badly Kyle McKenzie - not sure
Dowie Harsh had given the fans some great moments, record since leaving Cov might indicate he wasn't up to much
Coleman - second to Red as the worst manager in my time
Booth - justified but had MK been fitter earlier may have one more games whilst in charge
Thorne - should have ben sacked earlier

In summary most sackings were justified

The only reason why I'm not bothered either way, if he goes or not, is purely because:

When in the last 13 years since the premiership, have we had success? How many managers, with good reputations, who have good players to work with, have we had and still no success?

Bit glass half empty, but I don't see anyone coming in and making us a team to be feared. We've picked up 1 point in 15 ffs, teams look forward to playing us, especially at home ointlaugh:

I am feeling generous at the moment and gave him until Xmas, but he must change the way we are playing it's far to slow and get the midfielders much nearer to the attackers there are time when we have seven players back plus the goalie no wonder it keeps coming back and replace the keeper.

You could also argue that he has already built one and a half teams but has been forced to let go most of the good players from those teams. Other good players like Petrasso and Maguire, he could not keep. I believe we also had two transfer embargoes during his reign and many of his prime targets went to other clubs. So he really has has little chance to build a stable team.

On this occasion RFC I fully agree with you. I would add though that we can not just rely on academy developed players. They will need to learn from experienced and capable 'on field' mentors. We have far too few of those and those that could have done this we bombed.
