Why is anyone assuming that managers don't have off days just like players,,a good coach knows when he has missed a trick and admits it, a bad manager thinks when it goes wrong its not his problem. He needs to open his mind to the possibility that his methods will not work during the whole 90mins and may need to change to suit or to alter the momentum like the Bury coach did today. AT was out coached in the 2nd half and will need to react quicker if he is to succeed, he has to except blame and during after match interviews say as a team the whole team we didn't perform well today and i need to help these players close out games form winning position.. Not just say we were shit and its there fault,, grow a pair AT and open your mind to the fact you as a coach didn't do well today..

Read my post and you will see that nowhere have I said if a player makes a mistake it's not his fault. Poster after poster though keeps pointing out to you the fact that you are praising the manager for the first half and blaming the players for the 2nd.

Why is Thorn praised for the 1st half but completely clear of blame for the 2nd?

Apparently the players totally ignored what they were told at half-time. How do you know they didn't do the same in the first half and that's why we played well?

AT has never admitted when he has a bad one,, that was my point more than has he had many good ones!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!And the fact he never admits it means he will progress at a much slower rate as a coach..

Do many managers publically admit they got it wrong after a game? I think i've heard once or twice usually after a 4-5 nil drubbing.

Just because some one doesn't admit mistakes publically doesn't mean they aren't reflecting, and identifying those mistakes privately

carsley? shaw? thorn? they have all had good football careers thy can teach. kilbane very exp he can help? of course they take some of the blame but judging from today it was the players not the management

My opinion of today's game is the management should of changed the formation to 4-4-2 to give Brown more cover and cut the space they got in between our mid and def. We sat to far back and allowed them to come on to us, we will be limited if we carry on being so rigid...

If you went today, you would've seen when we defended, we had Barton and Kilbane infront of their full back, a wide diamond, infact when they scored their second, Barton was infront of Brown, giving good cover.

Also, a 4-4-2 with Baker and Macca covering the full backs!? They are 2 of the worst + lightweight defenders I have ever seen... Just saying

i think when despite having virtually a new team you continue to make the same mistakes as last season....losing leads ,not taking your chances ,lack of fitness etc then you have to look at tactics , formation and motivation which all come from the management team! :facepalm:

I would say its Thorns fault because he got out done by his opposing manager, after HT bury changed there system and the way they were playing and shut down our full backs and pressed us alot more quickly, Thorn couldnt change the way we were playing.

The players must very much take the brunt of the blame, but I can't see how anyone can argue that our management team wasn't outwitted by theirs.

Wood's mistake let them back in the game, but then when they started to get on top that was the time for our bench to react to what was going on and change things .... and that doesn't just mean swap the personnel around, it also means changing your tactics to counteract theirs and this we failed to do.

Seems clearly apparent to me and so it should to everyone whether you are a fan of Thorn's or not.

I find Thorn fans on here when pushed admit that the manager has made mistakes but then at the same time never admit it when any mistake actually happens and always defend the guy to the hilt in the face of the reality that is staring everyone square in the face.

You can be 'for Thorn' yet say he got it wrong yesterday you know. It's not a crime.

and thats why fans don't rate thorn. He seems to get the best of players for half a game.

The same problems have occurred from last season yet the team is completely different.

I don't know what they do in training but the fitness levels again are a issue.

Which highlights how fickle football fans can be. Our system was bang on yesterday, Thorn had done his homework and first half we battered them, should've been 3 or 4 up had we not been so wasteful in front of goal. The second half changed when that penalty was given. Things like that happen every week in football, morale drops in one team and is lifted in the other. I've seen people say we should've changed the tactics there and then, but in fairness it was a penalty from nothing, they hadn't threatened at all in the game until that point. Even in that second half we had hit the post and looked far more threatening than they had. Had Thorn, based on one incident, decided to completely change a tactic and personnel that, for an hour, had been very successful then it would've been a very irrational move for any manager to make. When the second goal was conceded, he made changes. Of the players on the bench I felt like he brought the right two on, whether he bring Baker and Cody off was the right move is subjective, and consequently up for debate, but overall I cannot see what Thorn could have done to change that game. At some point the players have to take responsibility. Wood knows he went in stupidly to give away that penalty, and Brown will know he was horribly out of position for their second goal. Individual errors cost teams points and that's what happened yesterday.

Bollocks. How anyone in their right mind can say the man was ever given a fair crack of the whip is beyond me. This was the closest it's ever come and he was given 3 games with a brand new team.

In spite of everything though and without all of the constraints he has been under, his stewardship has been riddled with lots of silly schoolboy error decision making.

It's not about just the 3 games and that is quite obvious.

I hope I can bring an unbiased perspective, this being my first season going to all home games (support Crystal Palace but becomming a Coventry fan as well ). IMO Thorn was not at fault for yesterday, but Wood definately was. The only thing missing from his 'challenge' was a kung foo kick. An utterly stupid penalty to give away, and gave hope to a team that was already dead and buried! Hiowever that said, to be winning all three matches to then throw it away (twice against weak teams) is not acceptable for a team with aspirations for the playoffs, and that I feel should be a minimum with this squad.

Can't wait for Jordan Clark to come back. Reece Brown is not yet ready for L1 football. Time and again punting it up the field and out of play. Barton looks to be a very good prospect, nice control and surprisingly willing to tackle given that he had a broken leg I believe?

As for the new manager, anyone who sets the team up to keep the ball on the ground would be fine. But the fans need to get of the team's back when they retain possession in defence when there are no options going forward. This happened at 2-0 up which I thought was kind of odd, and doesn't happen at Palace. However, I have not had to experience a decade of rubbish as my friend would say, so maybe understandable.

Last season, at times, Thorn barely had 11 senior professionals that could play 90 minutes. We lost our 5 best players in a 6 month period, and this is from a side that with those players had finished 18th. Realistically we were never going to stay up, and now three games into the new season he's been sacked, personally I don't think that's enough time. If there were off the field issues that led to the dismissal then he should've been fired before pre season so we could get another manager in, not 3 games into the new season!
