Wilson - 7 - solid. Did what was needed and good handling with a few tricky ones.

Wilson-Esbrand - 6.5 - few sloppy passes but good energy and looked positive in large spells.

Doyle - 7 - Just a really good player isn’t he. Assured on the ball as he usually is.

Fadz - 8 - Its more about everything he brings in terms of presence and organisation. What a man.

McNally - 8 - brilliant. Won everything

Dabo - 9.5 - Brilliant return. Looked threatening in possession and won every duel. Like the Dabo of old.

Eccles - 7.5 - Very combative in there today and carried us forward better than he has done previously. Really coming on (admittedly playing more in his natural position)

Hamer - 9.5 - Did everything, everywhere. His work rate is about triple to what it was the previous two seasons. Unreal guy.

Howley - 7 - This may seem harsh but marked on his actual performance as though he was a seasoned performer. When you consider it was his full debut then a 10.

Godden - 6.5 - I’m a huge Godden fan and he did ok but just wasn’t as involved as he would’ve probably wanted to be.

Gyok - 9.5 - Took his chances well and laid it on a plate for Walker (although I think that was more to do with the angle for the shot rather than complete altruism).

Fans - 10 - biased but I just don’t see / hear away fans like ours anywhere else.

Dabo needs to start every week now and the Cuffey experiment needs to end if only to see if he can play games week in week out and avoid injury

Bit harsh on JWE I reckon. I thought he played really well. Got ability to glide past his man and has awareness to look to pick out a pass or cross.

Great all round performance again and with some crucial team changes. Hard to pick one out as m-o-m but scoring two and and assist for the fourth got to look at Vik, I haven’t seen our second having a puddle, so don’t who assisted.

Thought he did okay too personally. Did more than BNC last few games going forward.

JWE was subbed for Bidwell as Bidwell is a good solid defender we were 1-0 up and likely to come under pressure, a good decision from our manager. He has been criticised on here a lot regarding his substitutions but I thought he got them spot on today.

Yeah he was average. Him and BNC are a big drop off in terms of quality compared to Maatsen.

5 for Maguire feels a bit harsh. Thought he did ok when he came on. Nothing special, but certainly no worse than the other subs.

I thought he looked off the pace and kept getting dispossessed. Quite a few good moves broke down when it got to him. He did a few good things though.

I think they need to manage Dabo TBF and taking him off after an hour was sensible. It's noted how much better he looked physically, the burst of pace was back. He's always been rushed back previously but this time he's been given a few games on the bench and it looks like it's worked.

Interesting seeing Warnock’s assessment that they should have led at half time and were under no pressure before conceding.

Wilson 8 - Hard to mark a keeper who is protected pretty well, but he came and caught a cross beautifully, was decisive to mop up some danger, and more importantly seems to have cut out a lot of the fidgiting that made *me* nervous!
Dabo 9 - grew in confidence as the game went on, and started to take on players too. I hope we don't overplay him now, he's one of those (see Godden) who seem to be trusted by Robins, and that sometimes seems to mean they play before they're ready.
McNally 8 - He's been particularly solid.
McFadzean 7 - not one of his better games, he got turned a couple of times, seemed a bit slow on occasion, but he undoubtedly marshalls the defence
Doyle 7 - one of his better recent games
Wilson-Ebrand 6 / 6.5 - Looked incredibly bright and assured going forward, there were a couple of beautiful feints to make chances. Not on the same wavelength defensively, and there were some sloppy let the ball go out of play moments when he just didn't have to.
Hamer 9 - Excellent, driving, and a goal that may have owed much to fortune (why was he allowed to score from that angle - he took it too far!) but still kept us going up the pitch.
Eccles 7 - I consistently find it hard to mark him as I don't really notice him! This could actually be a vite of confidence in his abilities, I dunno. Anyway, he moves up from 6 to 7 as a) we won and b) he covered Norton-Cuffy pretty well when he came on.
Howley 6 - seemed slightly below the pace in terms of thought as much as anything - his passes were got away at the last moment before being tackled, but he did find his targets, and he did make a magnificent cross early on. It's his debut too, and you have to give a *bit* of slack until he gets the pace of men's football.
Godden 5 - See Dabo. I'm not going to go all hating on him as he certainly has a place, and when coming on as a sub he's looked reasonably sharp. I can't help but think he isn't fully match fit though, and is playing because the manager trusts him abslutely, and because he doesn't want to let the team down. That doesn't necessarily help him as an individual.
Viktor 9.5 - Two goals, one a lovely finish, and an assist. Considering he didn't have many chances really, that's a decent return.

Norton-Cuffy 6 - Didn't loom anywhere near as solid as Dabo, looked to not quite know what he was doing either. he strikes me as a more effective DaCosta in that you suspect what happens is improvised as muchas anything - he does have more about him thanDaCosta mind you!
Bidwell 7 - thought he looked solid and shored our defence up.
Walker 7 - one lovely reverse ball to Gyokeres, so happy the Swede returned the favour for his goal. Yeah, it's a tap-in, but you still have to make the right run to find space.
Maguire 6 - Hard to mark. I actually thought the first ten minutes he was on he looked uite good - linked well, and held the ball while running. After that... he went to pieces!
Rose - Was there for five minutes.

One small note though, and Huddersfield really were terrible. This wasn't actually a particularly terrific performance from us. But what it was, was ruthless. So marking is equally difficult given the standard of the opposition. Did we make them look poor? Or, are they just so awful that even Walker can manage a goal against them?

That might explain it.
He's been piss poor this season before today.
Tbf he's played before he's had time to recover from injuries, but there's no denying that he's been disappointing.

I'm not convinced that MR will keep him around after this season, so he needs to impress and keep his place.

I noticed you called people clowns in another thread for being doubtful about him, but I think that's a bit silly, and lacks perspective.

He played well today, but it was one hour against one of the worst teams in the league. It's an encouraging sign, which is good, but it's far too early to be banging the drum long term. He needs to build on that performance now, as he's been incredibly poor for a good 18 months at least. You don't unprove that in one afternoon, and I don't think it's very fair to be throwing insults around based on it either.

I had the Huddersfield commentary on ifollow for the first 20 mins or so…and that was pretty much their assessment of things ie “we look comfortable”/saying how ordinary we look. I thought at the time, “I dunno what game they’re watching”.

His issues have been around fitness for two seasons. If he can stay off the treatment table he’s clearly ok at this level but for 24 months he’s looked injured a lot of the time

It's amazing what 2 seasons in the top flight does. Think they'll be strong in League 1 but it's where they are surely headed, especially when the manager starts talking about pride more than survival

I said it in another thread that a fit and firing dabo isa huge asset.
What's gone on this season is a mystery to me, itsbeen quite bizarre.
But to have him back and firing isa huge boost in among all the bad news. Fingers crossed he stays fit.
