Thoughts ?

He won't be dropped for rose let's nip that in the bud straight away .

But wasn't right last year , made the switch to a plant based diet and may have taken a while for his body to adjust (just a thought, not a nutritional fact ) but looked gaunt and tired , and I wonder if it impacted his early to mid season form last year .

Looks alot better this year don't you think

Still don’t like him on the left and don’t think he’s better than a fully fit Rose 🤷 Decent backup across all three CB positions though.

He will play RCB anyway when JCS is back in

I was concerned by his form last year, I will give you that .. I genuinely wonder if his switch in diet impacted him more than he thought it would (serious question)

Played very well yesterday, looks like he has settled into the pace and demands of the Championship.
I agree that he should look better on the right side of the back 3.

He's on last year in club's favour I think.
I think Grendel is right on this, he often is but don’t tell him!! We need better than Hyam to progress even further but if robins feels he can still improve then he’s another we need to be talking with

Not fully convinced. He looks good until turned. Has zero pace and then panics. Could do with a bit more upper body strength to really dominate the opponents.

One thing I think we forget about is mental strength - something McFadz has.

Think he's generally done well and I'd like for us to extend him as others have suggested. What I liked about his display yesterday was that he helped drive several of the attacks forward in the second half and also played further upfield. His distribution was also pretty good.

Did just fine yesterday I thought, but has this knack of playing strikers onside when the rest of the defence has stepped up. Still he hasn't done bad for someone signed on a free as back up in League 2

Hyams out ball is dreaful mostly going to the opposition although he was a lot better yesterday and tended to keep it shorter, a bit like Willis in the hoof anywhere will do attempts.
He started the season well last year only to struggle and cost us a few goals, he has been caught a few times this season so as previously expressed on here an upgrade for us to progress. If we happened to get promoted this season we would probably need 3 new centre backs to survive but atm he is doing ok and long may it continue

2nd best defender at the club full stop. Daylight is third.

Rose has to get basics right of defending to get anywhere near the level of Hyam.

We would need about 9 new players and even then would have about a 5% chance of survival (unless they were 8 Callum O'Hare's plus one Alan Shearer). Would just be happy with the income to secure the club's future.

I wish we would get contracts sorted earlier. I know it’s down to budget however in an ideal world we should be tying down O’Hare and Hamer to 5 year deals to maximise profit if/when we sell them
Players like Hamer and O Hare wouldn't sign 5 year deals, we're a stepping stone club for them. they come here knowing they give us 2, maybe 3, good seasons then hopefully move on to a higher level and more £. If we make a good profit on them, and bring in better players to repeat the process with then its ideal for the club and the player

Most underrated and overlooked player imo.
That's now him, Fadz, Györkeres and Sheaf this weekend. Who are all these people underrating our own team?

Probably as none of them are 'sexy' footballers and won't get the adulation of a Dabo, O'Hare or Hamer type, but I think most understand the team is often greater than the sum of its parts and all have a role to play.

Hyam is a steady eddy player, a regular 7/10 who goes about his job with no thrills and as such rarely gets a mention.
He and Fadz complement each other well, and apart from the obvious lack of pace they do very well for us, and have both proved excellent value. If JCS can add the pace to the back 3 we could have quite a formidable defence this season,
In fact our biggest weakness has been Sheaf and Hamer giving the ball away too often in dangerous positions.
For me, I'd just like to see Hyam get the odd goal from corners and he would be the ideal CB.

I have thought about us and the prem then thought yeah its ok to play against the top teams but not if its a miserable season getting whooped every week, thats the level headed side of me

I expect if we got promoted we would need about 15 new players as most would struggle the next level up you only need to look at Norwich players to see that.

Interestingly Hyam has the highest percentage (73%) success rate of passes out of any of our players who have played in the back 3.
