Mixed reviews, I said that I thought Platt would be offered a deal a month ago & got shot at.
I was right again.. my rationale was that he is the stability option for cheap(ish) strength in depth... we will need 4 senior strikers to compete, Platt gives that 'handful' option.. Cody is the poacher, we need another powerhouse striker with a bit of pace & another really nippy guy (may have to settle for ROD?)
I am not including Sheffers... not been massively impressed so far.. he needs to improve his movement & decision making, Madine was a mile ahead of him when we had him on trial & is now promoted from Lge One with Wednesday after scoring 23 goals in 63 matches.
We should never have got rid of him that season because he wasn't replaced we hardly got any cash and it nearly came back to bite us on the arse, but lets be honest, most of the time he was here, he was utter dog shite.
Also over the past 10 years we've had a few better than him for sure. Best was very talented but lazy, Mifsud until he got worked out for an awful first touch and being a greedy tosser was for half a season unplayable, Juke was raw and didn't score enough but was such a workhorse and team player and will be great imo for Boro next season, Sheffers in his first spell was decent and shown glimpses since his return, and King was just by any standards of anything we've seen up the Ricoh (on the pitch anyhow) pure class and head and shoulders above. Adebola not fit to lace the boots of those.
Big Dele was a slightly better version of Big Clive. And all Dele did at the Ricoh was to knock out Westwood while playing for Brizzle (probably the only time in history the goalie gets fouled and nothing's given).
I have never been a fan of big lumps up front whether Dele or Platt. In my opinion almost anyone tall enough could do the same job, ie get their head on the ball and not score. CP was as mobile as my dining table at Brizzle. He's not going to score because he's not going to get on the end of things, and as mooted elsewhere a big immobile lump up front just invites playing hoofball.
I wouldn't take any notice of anything SISU say about the football side of things because they don't know anything at all about it. I presume Thorn will be given a tiny budget and he will have to work with that. He will need a lot of younger players and possibly that is why he wants to retain some experience. I wouldn't have thought Sheffers would make a good mentor.
