I think that Joy has misunderstood the Kipling poem: "if you can risk it [all] on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose... you'll be a women my daughter"
Perhaps that's why they went on rent strike? They needed that money for up and coming legal fees. I feel another rent strike coming.
I would argue though that the rent regardless of how extortionate it was, was a wiser investment than the legal fees. At least we got something in return for it.
