Impact of CCFC having an extended break (1 Viewer)

I think that there will be an impact on us (also Rotherham) having an extended break before the new season starts. It will be strange for the Championship sides to have a mini season, then a shortened break (add in the relegated PL teams) then resume, whilst our team (plus Rotherham) are going to have additional down time, preparation time to recover from injuries etc. B=Not sure how it will impact, but would have thought it ought to give us at the very least a bit of an advantage?

I’m more worried it’ll be the opposite. 6 months without playing is a long time, could take us 5 or so game to be fully match sharp.

Potential issues for us in bringing players in too. If we bring people in now we are paying championship wages for a few months without proper income and I wonder if that's what is holding back the Hamer deal. Will it force us to wait instead of bringing in players and potentially miss out on targets?

good points - i was thinking that existing Championship teams may have the issue of injuries being picked up during packed end of season, needing to cut costs, then resetting to adjust for a compressed pre-season.

Agree with this just look at the standard of the games on TV so far pretty shocking.

I doubt it... Just as long as they have a full pre season and sufficient friendlies against decent opponents.

If they don't have this, THEN it becomes an issue.

Whilst fitness will undoubtedly be important, i think finances could have an even greater importance. All the championship side currently playing with I assume very limited income coming in whilst cost of wages going out could be significantly weaker financial when next season starts, just might be a levelier playing field than would have been the case prior to covid.

Definitely unsure if it is an advantage. Looking at the sides restarting it seems to have had a real impact. Another issue is player fitness re diet and exercise which is difficult to maintain over six months. Are the players on a break now? If I were Robins, I would be getting them unto training now.

But they have not had as long they would for a preseason game. Loads of managers have complained that they only had about 3 weeks where as in Germany they had 5 weeks to train. Main complaint being that players could get more muscle type injuries without the extra 2 weeks. So by the end of this we could have an advantage to to other teams having players injured. At the same time, depending on when the season starts, other teams could have players more match fit so we are catching up (easy way around this would be to play lot's of preseason games at a competitive level) as we could start earlier than other teams due to our long layoff.

It might show up at the back end of the season. Other teams will of played a 56 game season with a short break after 10. They might be on their knees by the end.

The issue there is furlough. if they return to training they would need to come off furlough and the club pay out full wages with no income.

Good point. I guess also the uncertainty of when the season will start isn't helpful either.

I’d suggest maybe a week or two longer pre-season. Doesn’t have to be manically intense but just give a bit of time to recover a base level of fitness for a couple weeks before the intensity is ramped up.
