impressed by the start of the season? (1 Viewer)

It's good we've got off to a good start to this season. It certainly looks a bit more solid than last season. There also seems a bit more backbone in the middle of the park with Carsley and renaissance man Michael Doyle biting legs in the middle of the park to such a good extent that Welsh wind up merchant Robbie Savage had to be substituted (if only 606 had the same policy) and the burgeoning central defensive partnership of Ben Turner & "are you sure he's only 18?" Nathan Cameron looking useful, a part of me wants him to drop a couple of rickets so he doesn't go off to play in Spurs or Newcastle or Birmingham's reserves.
I'm still not sure that Freddie Eastwood's a genuine 18/20 goal a season striker and I think Boothroyd knows that as he's being linked with a couple of striker targets but I think once Mcsheffrey's proper match fit he'll chip in with 10 or 12 and Jutckiewicz looks like he could make double figures if we can sort him out some decent service.
I thought in the Portsmouth game we looked most threatening when the new full back was overlapping past David Bell and creating space for crosses and I was impressed by his confidence to go inside and take a shot. At some point he's going to catch one right and it's going to sail in.
Overall I'd be happy if we got top half and maybe pushing for a top 6 place. I think we're a little short to make a genuine play off push but if we can have a better season, maybe the crowds will pick up and give us a better platform to build a squad with.

I completely agree with this.
Anything over a top 12 place this year is sure to attract bigger crowds for the season after ;)

I reckon Freddy will bung in 20+ this season.

If freddy gets good service and gets himself into the right area with confidence i can see him going for the 20 mark alright.

I don't think he'll get 20 goals, I'd be impressed if he got 15. No one scored thanb 16 last season for anyone. I think Boothroyd knows we need another striker that's why were looking at Marlon King and maybe Adam Le Fondre and the youngster from Bolton.
Plus three of last seasons top scorers were midfileders so it seems useful to have goals from elsewhere on the pitch and I think McSheffrey might turn out to be crucial when he's match fit.
I'd like to think Boothroyd's focussing more on sorting the defense out anyway. Too many times last season we were chasing games by conceding first and we just weren't good enough to give teasm a head start.
I'd like to see a bit more pace or guile in the squad as well. At the moment our plan B is bringing on Clive Platt and although he's started well I'm sure teams will start working out how to play him and if he is our Plan B it needs players to link up with his knock downs and sometimes we play our midfielders too deep. It needs one of them to be breaking into the box for Platt to be properly effective long term.
I'm hopeful that the averageness of the league means we're good enough for a comfortable top half finish because there isn't a team we can't beat but we probably aren't true play off contenders this year and that's fair enough because Boothroyd should get time to build a squad and that might take two or three seasons. We need to give him time to do that. We've binned off too many managers after 18 months for us to ever get to grips with challenging the top half regularly.
