Update on injuries…

“Victor Torp has done his ankle ligaments and will miss the rest of the season now.

“Ephron has a continuation of his toe injury which we don’t really know how long he’s going to be out for at the minute.

“Bobby Thomas has a low-level calf problem, and we will just have to analyse it, but I can’t give time frames.”

I thought they were both due back for Albion.

It's a bad situation but we have to cling on to fact that with Thomas back in this is still a very strong 11 and capable of beating anyone from now till end of season

But we need to keep them fit for the final 4 weeks

It is concerning. The biggest miss imo is Thomas.

Hopefully just a couple of weeks..and back for Luton.

A couple of months ago we had Sheaf and Haji out long term and coped.

Think Haji is more capable of operating on lhs. So EMC isnt such a big atm.

Think Eccles and Asante will/should be back very soon and will make bench stringer with more options.

EMC with rest shoukd be back in time for Boro fingers crossed.

Not overly concerned as its good to See Simms and Bassette get some game time.

I cant fathom it

4 weeks back after Sunderland we had a clean bill of health

Now we have

Dovin
Torp
Eccles
EMC
BTA
Thomas all out

Capitulation injury wise in just a few weeks

No expert but fairly sure even a low level calf injury is a couple of weeks minimum.

Lampard said he doesn't know the extent of EMC and Thomas injury, but I'm sure you said they are out for the season. Is Lampard holding info back?

Well we could, but only if Simms or Bassette knew how to score goals.

This is harsh, Haji Wright had 0.53 of our 0.99 xG last night. There was also that chance in the box where he tried shimming past a defender and losing the ball rather than just shooting.

Simms needed to do better with his fast break but it wasn’t a gilt edged opportunity. Haji’s in the first half was.

I imagine it’s accumulation for all but Torp and Dovin. Those two were just unlucky.

Goes to show just how much depth you need in this league because it’s brutal. To think that Sheaf and Eccles were more or less the only CMs available explains a lot why we fell short last season. Too intense a season to manage with 3 or 4 first team options (Allen and Torp were injured for a lot of 2024).

Isnt that almost worse that he didnt actually produce much? He also won 2/7 aerial duels according to Fotmob if we're quoting stats. For someone his size and presence that's not great.

No because the forwards need to be serviced. We created one big chance and it fell to Haji in the box where he’s got to score.

On aerial duels specifically, Simms’ 2.7 per 90 is in the top 25% of forwards and given how the officials ref the game, the advantage is with the CB, that’s not bad. We see it every week how the CBs can climb all over forwards and they rarely get the decision.

Bassette didn’t have a shot so pointing the finger at Simms and Bassette when Haji Wright missed our best chances is rather strange.

Quick question then. Are you satisfied with either the goals or overall contribution versus games played for Simms or Bassette this season? Particularly as my original comment wasn't even about specifically last night, more of a general that they don't contribute enough. I don't see how it's hard to argue with that. Yes Wright probably should have scored when he hit the post, but at least he was there and his goals per game ratio this season stacks up much better with most not from a CF position.

When Haji was injured, Simms and BTA’s goals got us into the playoffs when we started that run. Simms has got it in his locker to score a lot of goals in this league (scored in more games, more open play goals than Haji) so looking ahead to next season, I believe he could make a big impact.

I do think the 11 games or so where we stuck with Bassette was a mistake because he’s still a bit too raw. Frankly, I didn’t have much hope last night when Paterson and Bassette came on.

The thing about Haji, that people overlooked this season is that he had a run of 5 games where he didn’t score before his goal scoring streak before his injury. The manager put their faith in him and played him even when he weren’t playing well. This season, Simms and BTA only got a consistent run when we played 5-3-2, it’s been too inconsistent for them to hit a run imo.
