Is that Pompey just about gone now? (1 Viewer)

Still 8 points adrift from 4th from bottom, another game gone and a game gone that was against the team they needed to catch.

Has to be just about it doesn't it?

Next game up, Birmingham. Then us.

Yes, think that is them gone BUT in a way it does not help us does it? We need to catch Brizzle/Notts.F and Donny (I know they are level with us but have a game in hand). I think Millwall are too far ahead to be caught.

It might not help us possibly, but I think it might well could and I am thinking only in terms of next week's game. I can't believe they will just give up yet.

Had they come to us however after beating Bristol then they would have believed they were still in with a half decent chance of avoiding the drop. Now, they will surely come to us disillusioned and very low on morale ..... and that could be a very good thing.

thing is, draw against brum and beat us and they are on the same points as us, and plenty of us think we can get out of it

we need to beat them next saturday, that simple

But to catch us like you said will mean another 2 games gone and they would still be at least 4 points behind Bristol and Forest.

So yes, they could catch us, but they would still be short of 4th from bottom.

agreed, but there will still be people on here saying "we still have 6 games left, and we are only 6 points behind"

I know they will.

It could come to the last game at Southampton and we could have to win by 3 clear goals with every other team around us having to lose and some people would still be saying we can do it.

i think its more than safe to say that pompy are gone if they lose to us next saturday

that a very big IF, however, its a MUST win game for us

Going to be a tough one. Both teams fighting for their lives.

Even tougher if we lose to Cardiff on Wednesday. A draw there would be excellent.

Cardiff will need a bad day at the office for us to emerge with any points-and we will need to play like we did in the first half of today over the whole 90 minutes.

How is it in our hands?

We are behind the teams we need to catch, one of them has a game in hand.

If we played Bristol now and won we would still be behind them. We don't play Forest again. Even if we won all 9 games we still need other teams to fail. We win all 9 games and Bristol win 8 games and Forest win theirs we are still down.

That's what i mean by out of our hands. For every game we win, if our rivals win too (Bristol excepted because we play each other) then we will continue on course to be relegated. It is not in our hands.

A credible draw at Cardiff would be a boost. It is in our hands to go and grab it. We go there with a point- lets keep it!

After that, we have a massive 12 points to grab, games against Pompey, Bristol , millwall and posh. It is in our hands to win those- if we don't believe it's possible, then it is a sad indictment of our willpower and predicament. You'd have to question our reason for taking part, if we are resigned to defeat.

Agree it's in our hands to win our games. That's all we can do.

If we win them all that would obviously be enough. But any other team down there has just the same chance to win all their games too. If there's parity we are gonners.

But Forest an Bristol still have to play each other so Forest and Bristol can not win all there remaining fixtures apart from us.

I have tried explaining this before but people still don't seem to understand us, there will be more fixtures like this where people round the relegation places play taking points off each other but I cba to go through all the fixture lists.

Also, how likely is it that all teams win their remaining games? If we did (yes, unlikely, but that is in our hands), and Bristol did also, then the other teams above both of us would be (more than likely) thrown into the bottom three, surely?

IF we and Bristol got 8 or9 wins each, ie 24-27 more points, I would suggest that we'd both be clear, and it would be other clubs that are drawn into the mire?

I think that another 16 points would give us a chance of escaping. Five wins, and a draw. Not possible? Not within our hands? Respectfully, I think we have our chances to take. It may not be quite enough, I agree, bit our destiny is ours to grab- win enough, and we stay up, even if it is a big ask........

It's easy enough to work out, CCFC. The only fixtures we really should be looking at are Bristol's and Forest's. They only play each other once and Forest have a game in hand.

The others, such as Millwall and Peterborough are very much long shots now anyway.

Fair enough anyhow I think we have the best run in at of us, forest, bristol, donny. we still have to play 5 of the bottom 7 teams. Forest and Donny both have 3 of the bottom 7 to play and Bristol only 2 of the bottom 7.
Look at Forests next 4 fixtures
Leeds (A)
Brighton (H)
Leicester (A)
Palace (A)
I don't see them winning any tbh

Donny play Milwall tuesday then have this run of fixtures
Southamton (A)
Palace (A)
Birmingham (H)
Leicester (A)
Burnley (H)

I think Forest have the hardest run in out of all the teams
They have to play
Leeds
Brighton
Leicester
Palace
Blackpool
Reading
Hull

Also where is your customary thread saying "Why did anyone predict anything other than a defeat today"? ;)

Being realistic, it's a question of who will join us and pompey.

But that doesn't detract from the fact that, if we set our minds to it, we could still be masters of our own destiny!

unless we have a minor miracle we are down, i knew that weeks ago.

The current bottom 3 will go down

I could see us being bottom when it all finishes

Great eh
