It's a numbers game... (1 Viewer)

3 decent signings in but let's keep an eye on the out goings and how this balances out.

So far players in the 1st team last season that have left:

Heridasson
Cranie
Clingan
Norwood
Platt
Nimley

Player in this pre-season:

Kilbane
Fleck
Elliott

At the moment we need another 3 at least to just replace the players that have left.

Keogh and Bigi go then we need another 5 players.

Yes, SISU have backed the manager this week. But hopefully Mr Thorn's spending spree hasn't finished yet.

I have a feeling we will see a few exits over the next few days but on the caveat that Thorn has immediate replacements.

Herman can't really be included but I agree, desperately need some depth in midfield now

I included him because he was bought in by Thorn to add to the numbers and played a couple. Once he was injured we didn't replace him either.

The worry for me is two seasons running we've had the spine ripped out of the team. First Westwood, Turner, Gunnarsson, King then Cranie/Keogh, Clingan, Jutkiewicz and we haven't replaced them yet.

We need a solid partner for Wood, someone who knows the league. A dirty little DM to break up play and a big target man to play with McDonald/Elliot.

As in the 1st team towards the end of the season.

Eastwood, McPake were never near the team. Juke we replaced with Nimley.
We shipped 11 players last summer ,sold two during the season. The fact they wer'nt used or fit means they were missed,we signed Cody, took in three short term players who are now gone along with six others since close seasonif if you include Bigi ,Keogh soon to follow .So three in now +Cody and i'll be generous including THomas ,Bigi , Christie+2 goalies, thats nine in 17-18 out.

We need to create a new spine for the team now.

I believe Cody will be prolific in this league.

We have Murphy who is good enough in L1 and Fleck who if he reached his potential will be a star.

We need to find another Richard Keogh type figure and a midfield general and we will go places.

Will be interesting to see what position Kilbane will play.

I guess you need 2 players in each position. We have;

1. Murphy / Dunn
2. Clarke / Christie
3. Hussey / Kilbane
4. Deegan / Thomas
5. Wood/ ??
6. Cameron / Willis
7. Fleck / Baker
8 Bell / ??
9 McDonald / O'Donovan
10 Elliot / ??
11 McSheffrey / ??

So 4 needed though I would not say O'Donovan is even a fourth choice and Kilbane is utility so can fill in other positions.

Add mcpake, technically fatswood aswell.

Definately a numbers game. Even if it is 3 average league one players. WWE needs more numbers.

however the controllers associates will trot out some form of spin,
but, one cannot deny that yet again, there are more OUT than IN,

Sisu have not backed thorn. The 3 we got in cost zilch and the wages are being paid out of the wages saved from players released. Sisu wankers.

They have done much better than last season though. Still covering our losses and they will be paying more in wages for the signings so far than what they could have got 3 other players in for.

This time we have got 2 players that have played at international level and another that has played for Rangers 40 times by the age of 20.

Hang on there a sec, and I'm not having a go at you, but we have Willis in there as one of the 3 centre backs and the lad is just 17 and has only played 3 senior games for the club.

I hope for god's sake that he isn't expected to be a regular starter next season and play week in week out before he is ready.

I was kind of hoping we had learned our lesson from last season.

Keogh goes and we need TWO centre backs. 1 to replace Keogh, 1 to replace Cranie. Willis will need to be brought through gently.

Cranie and Clingan ripped themselves out. They didn't have the stomach for the fight.

I think we are going to have to forget what numbers have gone etc. That was proven to be unsustainable. We need to concentrate on if we have cover and people can be moved in to the right place then use the loan market if we get hit with injury's.

You may be right. I am making an assumption at least one young untried player is going to play some games and my guess will be it is him.

We will need Wood to play most of the season and to be fair last season was the first he had injury problems.

We still for me look weak up front and ideally need two forward type players or one and assume McSheffrey will fill in as and when.

I would also like to ship Deegan out and get a more effective replacement. This has nothing to do with the Irish question. It's a football question and the answer is "not very good".

With Bigi going and Keogh likely to be off soon

we now need to get at least 5 more players in.

Can you see sisu allowing another 5 players in?

Including loans yes. I would hope for 3 permanent signings and also 2 or 3 season long loans. We need also to somehow offload O Donovan and possible Deegan and replace those as well.

Can't see that anyone is going to take O'Donovan.

Maybe we should try Nuneaton Town?

Someone should be chatting to his agent and telling him to get out. Even if we ended up setting a percentage of the contract it has to be worth it. He would make my all time worst X1. Useless.
