Just a note that the Finding Jack doc is on tomorrow night on BBC2 at 9.00 - this has been recommended by many already so should be a good watch for us footie fans
Just watched it tonight. Outstanding documentary. What a great character Jack was and the Irish loved him. Proper bloke who liked a drink, and spoke his mind but was fair. He looked after Paul McGrath when he had a drink problem, but kept it private.
Sad to see his decline and I had forgotten the Irish has beat the Italians twice ! Good to see the retaking of the tricolour as national pride rather than a political pawn
Enjoyable for the old stuff, sad for the present. Altho it appeared he still enjoyed the occasional social appearance.
Certainly knew how to maximise a limitation.
There was a story that wherever he ate in Ireland he paid for his bill by cheque . This was because he knew the restaurant owners wouldn’t cash the cheque as it had his signature on
This doesn’t work with everyone in the hospitality trade , years ago Prince Charles was opening up a building literally 2 doors up from my mum and dads pub .When it was discovered royals didn’t carry cash they wouldn’t let him in
