Natural Leader ✅

A different side with him in it the other day. Has the aggression and fight we’ve lacked in other areas of the pitch - he’s going to battle when he’s out there.

Obviously can’t play every game and we need a longer term solution but a breath of fresh air

No argument from me. Bidwell looks like an old-school left back, imho. Focus on defence, keep it simple, overlap and cross where there's an opportunity. Don't let your opponent settle on the ball, fight for everything.

Da Silva isn't by any means a poor footballer, and he's perhaps a more skillful player, but I know which one I prefer, especially in a back four.

An excellemt player at this level.

Consistent, never less than 7 out of 10.

Solid, aggressive and you can see that he is working hard on the attacking aspect of his game. I think for our second goal against Plymouth Bidwell was in the final third and made a great pass to EMC before EMC set up Eccles.

Cant understand some saying that a new LB/ LWB is a priority - focus elsewhere first.

Think we need a new first choice LB going forward and I'd rather keep Bidwell with said new LB, but I suspect we're saddled with JDS as I can't see who would take him off our hands atm.

Remember when he first joined and Robins described him as a Rolls Royce and people were going mental as they felt he wasn’t playing at that level.

He’s more of a steady Toyota Corolla

Good to see like many other players he managed to find his rhythm and we’ve managed to get a tune out of him.

No chance of a new contract Saddle? Jake seemed to want to stay in the program

He's 32 soon with little to no resale value. He's not an 'asset' and doesnt 'fit the model' in Dougs eyes.

May have changed with Lampard in but around a week before MR was sacked there were no plans to offer any of our out of contract players an extension this summer

It's never been an issue with me, Bidwell all day long. Many fans just followed the spoutings of internet want to be's rather than using their own eyes.

Yes we need to sign someone to compete and eventually replace him, but that isn't DaSilva, who offers nothing in any area of the pitch and never has done. It says a lot when every team targets Da Silva when he is in the team, every scout sees him for what he is, the weak link and the way to get behind us and get crosses in.

Some of our fans used to moan Bidwell didn't do much. Well that's because he often marks two players and forces the opposition play maker to go the other way. When he gets forward he links well with other plays and can put good crosses in.

Every club needs a Bidwell type player, the unsung hero who just does his job week in week out. Latibeaudiere is another who is vastly underrated by our fans, who seem blind to some of his qualities.

Yeah it was a superb cushioned header to EMC from Sheafs diagonal.

Fair on the resale but seems Lampard will get a decent say. Obviously youth will be a key part of the plan for Doug’s Tenure but hope he’ll listen to what Frank wants. Seems at least with loans, he might be starting to

Yeah, some people have got it into their heads that an attacking fullback is one that runs and dribbles with the ball. Bidwell works the line really well, is constantly on the overlap. He'll never dribble past someone, but if you knock the ball in the space for him he delivers a decent cross 9 times out of 10.

Just noticed, did Robins want to let Allen and Wilson go? I don’t know why but I can’t believe he’d let Wilson go

Well if he has no resale value we may as well keep him and I would argue with our current squad he is very much an asset and more likely to secure points than blindly persevering with DaSilva, hoping he improves when he has shown no signs of doing so in one and a half seasons.

If his contract runs out and we bring in someone new in in the summer fair enough.

Considering he joined us on a "free transfer" we have had good value out of Bidwell and he owes us nothing.

It will all come down to what Lampard wants

Dougs stance on experience and loans is changing in the Jan window as Lampard has told him it needs to happen

If he can convince Doug that Bidwell is still an asset then hopefully it can be extended by a year. Bidwell wants to stay, he's settled here

I get the whole “asset” argument if you’re looking to splash money on transfer fees to acquire a player. But when the player is already here, integrated into the squad and does a good job each game he plays, it’s a classic case of the money men’s plan on paper not always working in reality.

I’d have him on my starting line up each game. He’s just one of those guys that comes out and does his stuff consistently well. Also a bit old school where he doesn’t mind getting stuck in which I think our “deck” needs at the minute.

I can’t remember which televised game it was last season but I recall Bidwell dealing with an oppositions player and making a very hard challenge to stop the threat. “Jake Bidwell doing what Jake Bidwell does” said the commentator.

We need someone with that mentality at the minute.

He was absolutely superb away at Wolves

Personally not that keen on him anyway. Not saying he’s a bad player, and he’s definitely our best LB at the moment (although I keep saying I’d be interested to see Binks there). I think his defensive abilities are overblown on the count of him ‘looking hard’, he’s not great on the ball and he’s not particularly quick.

That said, done a good stint for us and won his place back from Dasilva early on - which he should never have lost in the first place really - but can’t justify keeping him. Full back wouldn’t really be my idea of where you play an experienced player as you need more from them.

Happy to hear, think it’s easy to forget but Doug is still learning on the job footballing wise.

If Lampard has his ear that can only be a good thing.

Unquestionably the best LB/LWB at the club.

Can't understand why Lamps didn't see that sooner (injury aside)

This.

He has been acting like a captain recently. Dragging Bassette away from a spat at a corner. Pointing and speaking to fellow defenders. Never thought I’d end up being a fan of his, but happy to be proven wrong!

As long as Lamps sees it now I'm not too bothered.

It’s his pace that’s the problem, and he ain’t gonna get any quicker. He’s been good for us and there really is no choice to be made between him and Dasilva - Bidwell every time. But I reckon by the end of the season it’ll be time for him to go. That’s not to say he couldn’t carry on and do a reasonable job but we’ll want better there and I suspect Dasilva isn’t going anywhere.

The problem is it seems its going to be a new signing and Dasilva to cover LB next season when new signing and Bidwell would be the far better option.
