The Times are reporting today that Man U, Man City, Liverpool and Spurs are all interested in signing Madders
Don't know if the contract for his sale to Norwich included anything about subsequent sell on-ons after his transfer to Leicester but I suppose it's possible
Amazing that some of our fans didn't rate him when he was here

Think everyone rated him, was just so frustrating that he appeared to not give a fuck when he was loaned back to us

Loaning him back was clearly a mistake as it highlighted his priority was not to get injured (see also Magnus Hedman in 2002) and his presence in the squad seemed counterproductive (took up one of the loan places) for both his team-mates and some fans who were upset that he was off. Since then he's moved on to better opportunities whenever he needed to progress his career. Good luck to him, he's a terrific player and maybe moving to a bigger club will help him finally break into the England team - (mystifying that he's now behind Ward-Prowse and Winks in the call ups to the squad after being called-up and unused early in the season).

Was stated by the club when he left that we would have a stake in the rest of his career so that would mean a payout if he makes a big money move. Could offset any potential losses we incur playing in Brum.

I'm not sure he's necessarily behind Winks and Ward-Prowse. Because of his age and importance to the U21's it makes more sense for him to get a whole tournament of experience at the Championships rather than a few minutes in a couple of games this week.

Clearly had tons of skill, but always looked a little lightweight for us I thought. Obviously has come on loads as he's got older, bigger and more experienced (as players often do), and probably gets looked after better by refs in the higher divisions.

Not exactly the first player who has done better than some expected after leaving us. I didn't think that Jordan Henderson, much as I liked him when on loan here, would end up lifting the biggest cup in Europe either!

I always assumed that meant initial sell on, an England cap, 10 goals for England, 100 appearances for England etc. It's extremely unusual for a sell on clause to be in place beyond the buying club (Norwich) selling him on isn't it?

Warnock did have 8 seasons in the Premier League after he played for us and got capped twice by England, he's no Blair Adams!

Henderson has changed a lot as a player though. He's gone from a tricky right midfielder with us to a deep lying central player who intercepts a lot. Some things you just cannot call, especially when they change into a completely different player within a decade.

I've heard from a very good source (hate it when people say that but in this case I need to use the phrase!) that he is being "managed" as such to keep his feet on the ground and let him mature into a senior pro.

He was dire after he agreed his transfer and came back to us on loan that’s why.

it would only be a proportion of Norwich's sell on fee

so if Leicester made £20m profit on him
Norwich say have a 10% Sell on Fee and would get £2m
out of that , our sell on fee kicks in , and we would get 10% of £2m - so £200k

its only about 1% though its nothing crazy, im sure it also comes out of the transfer fee from New club to Leicester and not any sell ons linked with his Norwich move, i'm sure they call it consolodation money and its "supposed" to be used to help fund academies

Always had ability but not sure what wound me up worse; his diving or that silly fecking headband he insisted on wearing!!

I wasn’t his biggest fan, but could see he would be one to make it.

Great to see players like him and Wilson getting their chances the right way, and presumably being advised correctly!

I think however if he is being linked to the likes of Man U, he should speak with Zaha who quickly found a move like that isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Going from playing well in a first team, to some weeks not even being a bench warmer, before finding yourself back at your old club after a short amount of time!

Leicester got into Europa didn’t they? So I’d say he’d be better off staying there and getting the European experience

Agree to an extent, but a move to Utd is completely different now. Back then you had to fight your way into the squad, let alone the first team. There is no way that Maddison wouldn’t make the squad, their options are so bad.

I don’t think this was a thing. Our whole team played poorly from Jan onwards with a few exceptions. Armstrong and Murphy’s form dipped a lot too

It was definitely a thing. I remember Blackpool away he lost the ball and just walked back as the game went up the other end. City fans on the side I was in were going mental at him as he ended up about 10 yards offside with his hands on his hips.

One of the few City games I’ve been to in the last few years was when we played away at Southend the season when it looked like we were going to win League One. I may be misremembering but I think neither Armstrong nor Murphy was in the side that day, and Maddison had already been sold but returned on loan. He had an absolute stinker, and you could just tell he no longer cared.

In what way would it be in Maddison’s interest to underperform for us that season?

Had he not performed well on loan in Aberdeen, he wouldn’t have made the Norwich team and wouldn’t be where he is now.

If the whole team but Maddison played well, I’d get it. But the whole team performed terribly in 2016.

Must admit I don't buy into him not being arsed when he returned on loan. He had returned from a bad ankle injury lets not forget. Also Mowbray's use of the squad from January onwards that season was baffling. He was was making fours changes every game and didn't know his best side. Maddison was clearly an absolutely top drawer player and destined for a top four club I thought. Having said this I have heard a couple of Leicester fans say he does need to concentrate on his football a bit more than the lifestyle and he can go even further.

1. His priority was not to get injured and jeopardise his chances at his new club.

2. The whole team did play badly. Partly because the star kid had left and come back on half arsed terms

3. Mowbray was always liable to tinker with team selection but Maddison as a loan had a massive effect on his ability to pick a settled side. Had to leave one out of squad every week (usu Bigiriama).

Madison not giving it all and Mowbray constantly tinkering with the team to play Joe Cole because of his name was the reason we messed up that season.

November 2015 when we were pushing the top 6 we had a very settled squad, we didn't need Joe Cole and convinced we would've finished top 6 without him

I agree. Cole upset the balance of the team. Scored one free kick and a couple of step overs and little else.

Not sure that joe Cole was the problem. I always felt it was mowbray’s other midseason signings and his tactics being ‘found out’. Best exemplified by the away game at Peterborough. We should’ve been out of sight in the first half. Their manager bought on an extra attacker (in the first half I believe) to pressurise our defence to stifle us passing it about and we ended up getting beat...possibly deservedly so.
Was that also the game of the incredible Henderson shot/miss/collapse in a heap?

Without wanting to go over old ground, it was a typical Mowbray post-Xmas collapse. One hes had at several teams,which havent sold and loaned back their star player.

For me, the alarm bells rang as soon as Ricketts came out and said we'd been over-achieving in the first half of the season. We weren't, we were the best team in the league, but that quote showed the mentality wasn't right.

It was. He was clean through and tripped over. An incredible miss
To be honest we had no luck at all that day and did everything but score then they did a smash & grab
If I remember correctly Andy Rose got injured and JJ came on at half time for his first appearance for us
