Cus ,Eastwood is an enigma and has been throughout his whole tenure ,there have been times when he's shown what he's got in his locker,he has been mishandled ,i think he started last season or the one before four games on the bounce ,scored for fun ,and then was out,many theories abound ,contract stipulations ,fees to wolves ,performance appearance related payments in his salary,but the most common that he's just unfit and unproffessional,this manager along with all the previous hav'nt felt able to utilise him. Re;the KEOGH article he makes refference to all the tweets ,especially the big one on squad dissunity and squarely states someone within the whole set up, who maybe had bigger ambitions was making mischief,and had no credibility within the group.I'm not an AT fanboy but i do believe in him,he's made mistakes for me singleing out the youngsters for critism he won't dish on the seniors is the biggest,none of us ever see the same thing thats whats great about the game and coming on the boards.

Who's to say that McPake's agent didn't initially tip off the telegraph, and the quotes from AT aren't in response to questioning about it?

SCREW Freddy: I think we partly have a strong team spirit because wasters like him have been told where to go. Plus you are missing out the bit about him not being good enough anyway, even when he was "trying" and "fit". There's a reason why only clubs like Bournemouth, Cheltenham and Plymouth were interested in him.

McPake is a strange one. Notice he hasn't denied on Twitter that he wants to leave, just that he hasn't handed in a transfer request. I feel a bit betrayed, TBH. I loved him as a player when he was fit, and understand that he is in a Catch 22 situation: he can't get fit without games, but we can't pick him in his present condition. But it looked like we were in a position now with Cameron injured where we'd have to, regardless. Maybe gradually built up his fitness as sub.

I'm on record this season as saying that he's so far from Championship match fitness that he looks like an ex-footballer; I can't see him starting and us not conceding 3+ goals, he's that far off the pace. I thought the new deal was to reflect that he'd a lot of work to get his sharpness back, and I didn't expect him to back to his best until next season-if at all. But McPake at his best is a quality Championship defender who I'm sure would be attractive to SPL teams expecting to exploit his lack of fitness and get him for a knock-down fee. And in that scenario, it's a lose-lose situation for us; we've paid his wages whilst he's been injured and done his rehabilitation, and after not walking straight into the team (justifiably), he repays the faith we've shown by making noises about wanting a move which will net the club very little by way of recompense.

Oh and forget the Driver thing, unless we have at least 500k-1m to chuck their way as part of the deal. I don't reckon we do!

i am pretty sure i heard an interview with him at the weekend where he said he wanted to play but was not match fit ,but could not go on loan to get match fitness as our squad is so woefully thin.could this be where the miscommunication has come from,mcpake saying he needs to play but thorn not wanting to play him as he is not match fit.
i would welcome back a fully fit mcpake anytime.

I thought McPake had signed a new deal. The CT says his contract is up at the end of the season.

I'm to much of a dinosuar myselfSBD,but there was a massive rumour a t the time that AT had walked as well as this squad dissunitty thing came up ,probably 10-12 weeks back with AT having to make the obvious denial

He signed a 1 year extension until the end of the 2011/12 season. From what Thorn has said in the last 6 months, stressing how the bloke broke his back for the club, I'd say he was very much in his long-term plans; just hampered short-term by the obvious fitness Catch 22.

Is Thorn trying to drive another player out of the club? For McPake to go to a national sports reporter - Sky Sports http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11710/7411217/, these really arent the actions of someone trying to lie to fans!

Again, like Freddy's situation, AT seems keen on singling individuals in a negative way, forcing them to want to / need to quit the club.

Pretty sure he had 1 year (this year) left and he signed a 1 year extension to that, so his contract runs out at the end of the 12/13 season.

McPake didn't go to sky, they just picked up on his tweets, which have all been repeated in this thread & reported by the Coventry Telegraph.

He just wants to play football and has had a chat with AT about weather he needs to move for that to happen. Now because cov mad reported this as a transfer requests (which in football means putting a written request to move) we are having to get a player to respond to the story.

I disagree that is the reason, they merely copied the CT article & got that point wrong. The CT article was full of quotes from AT suggesting it was in his mind McPake should go. I suggest Thorn has turned the tables on McPake who expressed his honest desire to play but has ended up being offered to other clubs through the media. Its a hard business.

You have a point about the reason - but McPake was responding to reports he has put in a transfer request.

AT and cov telegraph do not mention the words "transfer request".

Completely disagree. What evidence do you have to believe the manager rather than the player? If the player is unhappy that he's not in the team, I expect him to earn a place back in it. He hasn't done that. Would you put him ahead of Keogh or Cranie? Even Wood or Cameron based on fitness in the past few weeks?

Sounds to me like a massive climbdown for public consumption on McPakes part.

Surely better to keep quiet instead making it known a player is unhappy.

McPakes situation is nothing like Eastwoods. I think that it should have been kept in house and nothing said however. But we dont know how the CT came by the story, probably AT was asked to respond to info they had and in stating a general principle (which I agree with ie if they want to go then let them) has been stitched up by the report to some degree. More a case of there being interest from other clubs, McPake desperate to play and reporters putting words in managers mouth ...... 2 + 2 = 6 perhaps ? Certainly the team and club didnt need such an article just now

Eastwood - my understanding (cannot prove it so it may not be entirely accurate and so might be wrong) is that he is 2 stone over weight, "injured" (how long do calf injuries take to heal?), and doing just enough so he is not in breach of contract. On that basis the club cannot sack him and no one will buy him injured or at his wages. You have to question his desire to ever play if thats the case. The manager cannot pick him if not fit or is injured. In the meantime he is costing the club at least £10k pw I would guess..... that is £500K+ per year and this season has appeared what, once as a sub? ....... we are in a mess financially and he does that to us ..... just sticking to the contract i suppose -but really dont see how some can see him as a CCFC hero! or why AT should consider him

If that is true of eastwood its very sad that a modern day footballer can treat a club like that. He's been given a gift Freddie that most of us word die for. A fit and interested Fred is worth 10-15 goals a season what a waste

I don't hate him and have actually stuck up for him a lot over the last few years - however if he is unfit and/or his head isn't right then he shouldn't play. It's not fair on the rest of the squad who are working hard in training and playing, and may cause resentment and unrest within the camp.

Freddie has been given chance after chance here and at wolves I think there is somethink with him on this one and not just AT not wanting to play him.
Wolves must have been laughing when we bought him, however at the time I thought it was a great day the day we got him, I honestly thought he would get us the goals we needed and had been looking for.

I had a chat with Coleman about Freddie when he was manager- Even he was saying then, that Freddie needed to give himself a kick up the backside or he was wasting everybody's time

Coleman was the manager who signed Freddie, but was he a coleman signing, a Ranson signing or a Thorn signing

Either way he will have cost us around £3m in fees and wages, and we will have got nothing for him
If nothin else, I would get him to re-tarmac the drive at Ryton

He has scored thats true Nick, so what is the problem with him?
Is it a clash of personalities with all the managers he has been under?
Is he disruptive around the camp?
Is it a lack of self discipline?
Whatever the problem is with him, he is/has been a costly problem for all the managers, surely they can not all be wrong in not wanting to play him on a regular basis?

i agree

but playing devils advocate if hes out cos sisu want to sell or he fell out with thorn then maybe that needs to be looked at as we need all the goals we can get

i think its a bit of both personally

The amount of weight he's put on, Parkin could run him close in a 60 yard dash! And as a footballer, he has an asset in strength: what does Freddy have, aside from one of the worst goalscoring records a "striker" has ever had at this club? He's never scored in his numerous sub performances, yet people think he'd improve our options from the bench? Even if that was true when he was in prime condition, it won't be in his current state.
