Destination Championship, this shows significantly higher ambition than the dross Elvis & Waggot signed, those deals would get you nowhere.

Bit harsh on Waggott considering he overseen most of this seasons incoming players, aided by Venus.

Yes, historically signings have been panic buys and hurried, but Waggott was here as a CEO and ended up doin that + a director of football like role at the same time.

Neither player have really stood out at to date, hopefully they are just getting up to match fitness. Remember how last season we thought we had made great signings in Tudgay, Jackson and Nouble as they had played at a higher level for most of their careers.

Sorry going to have to disagree as soon as Waggott was pushed to the side/out of the way the signings improved he had no more idea on players to sign than people on here.

Will Bigi get a discount because he owns a barbers?

I can see Cole being on a pay as you play / coaching type deal. He will be good to have around the dressing room and the training pitch, he might not be able to do the same on the pitch but if he can pass things on to Maddison and the other younger players it is only a good thing isn't it?

Yep, agree. He has had a real high pedigree in the game and played at the very highest level and if TM sees him as a positive influence around the club then that can only be a good thing I would say.

It would be nice for Cole to spend some time with Madders; however I fear he'll be gone in January as a permanent player at least. However I think Lameiras; Thomas; Sambou and Stevenson will also benefit.

Cole as a player coach would be a very good option, would learn a lot from TM

I'd be happy with him in that sort of role. If you listen to the way our younger players talk about him sounds like he's a good person to have around and more than happy to spend time working with them.

Funnily enough, I think Cole is more likely to come good next season - there's no doubt of his ability, but at the moment he looks some way off the pace to me (at least based on what I saw against Port Vale). However a proper pre-season and more game time, and I think there's a player there capable of lifting the whole team even if only for a year or two.

Similarly with Bigi really; again what I see is a player desperately short of game time, and as a result he's getting caught out too often. There is a decent midfielder in there somewhere, we just need him to get some energy and confidence back in his game. As with Cole, I think we'd see the best of him next season. I'd be happy to sign them both, personally, appreciate others may differ!

As previously stated the suggestion is that these two are signing and to fund it fleck is on his way.

I'd be disappointed to lose fleck but sign Bigi.

Really think cole maybe being lined up as a attack coach for us at some point when he decides to hang up his boots.Think that would be great for the club and i really think cole may yet prove valuable this season towards the end of the season when clever decisions on the pitch need to be made. Happy new year to all.PUSB

Joe Cole isn't washed up yet he's still only 34. Still a force at his level with lots more to come

I thought Joe Cole was fantastic in the first half against Port Vale. His touch and his timing and reading of the game was so far ahead of anyone else on the pitch. He isn't fit enough yet I agree but what an amazing player. If we can keep him we should celebrate.

I suspect our obsession with him will cost us promotion. He was behind the pace against Port Vale and poor.

Why is he so lacking in fitness having trained with the club for 8 weeks?

This does seem the most feasible theory. Unfortunately. I doubt we can replace Fleck, at this level.

I am not sure about the whole first half, in the last 10 - 15 minutes and when he did that turn to take the 2 players out of the game he played a lot better.

It is more his sharpness, it seems to take him so long to process what he is going to do once he gets the ball and when he gets it, it seems like he needs a couple of touches to get it under control.

Yep, just his sharpness is a bit lacking.

I must admit I have been wondering about this.
I don't agree that having him around will cost us promotion though. If I were TM I would find it very difficult to turn down the opportunity of having someone if his stature around. I think and hope his role will be as a coach/mentor, club representative, squad player who plays the odd full game against selected opposition and comes off the bench to slam in a free kick or two.

This just seems like 2001 all over again. We ended up blowing promotion by bringing in players via Jim Smith - insisting on playing them and car crashing into obscurity.

The teams best 11 would not include Bigiamara or cole but if we sign them given their pedigree the team needs to accommodate them and play in a style to suit them.

Chasing limited game time before he was ready. Now fully fit, just not match fit. Big difference. Convinced he will have a huge part to play later in the year if managed properly and can stay injury free.

Yep and now's the time to tell. He surely can't be ring rusty now. Game tomorrow and then a week on Tuesday. Am expecting much bigger things of him.

I understand your concern and share it to a degree. I do think that both players can fit into the system we play though and I'm happy to trust TM to play them or not as he sees fit. He doesn't strike me as the kind of man who's hand will be forced by stature.

Wasn't he has injured for the best part of 2 weeks during his time with us? If so he hasn't had 8 straight weeks of training.

If, if he can stay injury free from here on I suspect that come Easter rather than "costing" us promotion (it's all on his shoulders apparently and their was me thinking it's a team game) he could well be setting the example and leading the charge.

What's Coles best position then Tony?

That's the thing now, Maddison is back and will be playing number 10 behind the striker.

I can't see Cole playing on the wings and I don't think he has the energy of Vincelot to get box to box.

The only place I can imagine is if he wants him to play the Fleck role.

Didn't TM say we will change formations to suit. Other than fleck and vincelot the other midfielders have played in all the other 3 positions with none having the position set aside for them permanently. Its good to have the options we have in there with the calibre of them all.

He's an attacking midfielder. Fancy you not knowing that.

He'll give us options to as he can play pretty much anywhere such as on the left wing which more often than not was were he ended up in an England shirt.

I suspect the main reason he'll be here is to train and compete with Madders, he'll help his development no end and probably still be here long after Madders has gone.

It's this lack of fitness that concerns me, coupled with a lack of influence on proceedings.
Compared to Wise who was 40 and had been semi retired for six months.
If he's to stay hopefully that is the level of performance and influence we can expect, but it needs to come soon, as we are well served in that position and I'd hate younger more mobile /able players to miss out.

On the face of it yeah. But Fleck has 6 months left on his deal and if he has already intimated he's looking for more than we can offer, it's a reasonable compromise.

I don't think he has the fitness now for on the Right or Left to get backwards and forwards.

What about away from home 433 like this:

Vincelot Rose Fleck/Bigi
Cole Madders
Arma

There's lots of options.

It's only really this season when Fleck's come close to his capability too (maybe first half of Northampton season too), so although short term it'd be a loss, the jury's still out long-term.

So Maddison needs a mentor and someone to develop him more than those who've already developed him?

Ok.....

Left wing? Send Murphy back then? Where does JOB fit in with a team with Joe cole?

How many times have you seen cole play this season?
