Apparently Chelsea will up the bid to £30 million.

I rarely follow the premiership - is he worth it?

Interesting to see if Barnsley have a sell on clause as well.

I watch most of their games & read the forum every so often, my opinion yes & no. I and from what I read, the majority of Everton fans (shock!) think that he will be England captain in the future. The reason why Stones is worth more than £30mil is the same reason Sterling went for £49mil. Everton do not want to, have no reason to sell him & he has a 5yr contract. If he is going to go it will be for an astronomical fee (£40m +)

Is any player really worth it? With the possible exception of messi or Ronaldo I don't think so. But if you win the league on the last day and he makes one superb block or a winning penalty in champions league final shootout then he might be seen to be. But that could be said for any player. I suppose terry must be coming to the end of his premier league career and Chelsea have the money so mourinhio will look for cover. And after their poor opening and his stupid antics re the Dr & physio he needs to do something to take the fans and media attention elsewhere

As much as he is a fantastic talent and definantly one for the future, he's not worth that much money, i would estimate him at about £20m at most because he is still young and still developing his style of play. If he gives it a few more years when he is in his prime then maybe he will be £30m+. I think it's stupid amount of money to spend on a kid who's just becoming a mainstay in the Everton line up, like last season when Man Utd spend £30m on luke Shaw who is like stones, a quality player but still developing.

No one is worth 30m.. ......however, that said, if you compare to the money paid for other young english defenders from rio ferdinand onwards, then, according to my several everton STH mates.....hes worth every penny.
Barnsley apparently have 15%

Not worth it but in this marketplace then it's probably about right. Chelsea need him at the moment!

Funny hearing the Everton fans moaning about no loyalty from him what do they expect they pinched him from Barnsley, Porky Parry said on the radio this morning that one of the blocks maybe that Everton are trying to negotiate on sell on clause that Barnsley have the mean bastards.

Stones put in an official transfer request....Everton rejected it & then made him play against his old club last night.....

...Gotta love Everton.....Owned by a true blue, look after & listen to their supporters, have one of the best, if not THE best academy in the country & know how to play hardball with the big money clubs.....

They'll end up getting £40m+ for him in January I reckon.....

Isn't Southampton one of the best academies for churning out superstars? I'd never thought of Everton's academy being anywhere near that level?

In recent years Southampton have indeed produced a good number......west ham historically have been pretty good at it too.....

...but Evertons graduates that I can think of that have made the grade into Top flight football in the last decade or so include Barkley, Ball, Anichebe, Branch, Cadamateri, Chadwick, Dunne, Hibbert, Jeffers, Jevons, McCann, Rodwell, Osman, Pennington & Rooney.....

...I can't be arsed to check, but I'm sure there are plenty more & I'd guess that maybe 6 of those I've listed above have also played for England....

A lot of fans want rid of Kenwright but he can't get anybody interested supposedly, they can say all they want if Stones wants to go he will go and I expect it will be a Tuesday deal no time to spend the money and then the money will have gone by January.

Hhmmmm.....I'm not too sure about that TGP...

Obviously every club has its fair share of shouty idiot fans......you know, the type that go on radio phone-ins or local TV making dumb comments such as "we want Kenwright out" or "We'd rather go into administration to get rid if sisu"....you know...that type of bollocks....

...but as far as I'm aware, the quiet & overwhelming majority of Evertonians are a knowledgeable bunch & know that the grass is hardly ever greener....they do not want a "new money" owner...the likes of which Cardiff & Hull have been blessed/cursed..

..obviously they'd like some more investment, but are happy that their club is safe in the hands of a local custodian who actually cares about its history, heritage & tradition......

Its a split camp but i think its a very brave move by Everton to hold onto him given the latest bid of £37M. I suppose the bids next year could substantially increase given the influx in revenue but then he has a year to run on his contract so they might be forced to sell and cash in.
Everton have spent money over the years but have been wise with it. They have unfortunately sold at every opportunity which is the frustrating point. Unless you can innvest £30-40M a year you are not going to hit top 6 anymore on a consistent basis.

TBH I didn't give much thought to the threat of the contract running down....so I've changed my mind & now agree that he'll probably go this window....

Still think Everton have played a good hand to date.....do you reckon they can push it to £40M? ....That would net Barnsley £6m:eek:

He actually has four years left on his contract. So they could play hard ball with him for another two or three seasons.

The newspapers are quite sickening over this Stones transfer, since its Chelsea or Man City trying to purchase him. They believe Everton are obliged to accept the offer. Then they are the first to complain about how crap the England team is but thats because there too many young English players rotting away on benches of the top teams.

You are right that you tend to hear the shouty ones, they are stuck with Kenwright though as they are a club in the wrong end of the country who need massive investment in a new ground, I hope they never get it as they go on (like we used) about their time in the top league when they should have been relegated in that very dubious Wimbledon game.

I am surprised that it seems to be a one horse race as man City still have a need but Utd have a real need and seem to be spending big and clearing the decks with Evans off to West Brom.
