Seems they have little money to buy players so offering good wages to attract decent Frees. If Oviedo goes and with Cattermoles wages they will have freed up nearly £80k/week. Not stalking them I promise but have relatives who have STs up there.Sunderland are having to replace players, and they're doing it by recruting the better ones at this level. Real shame, I like Willis but its business and he has to think of himself. Wish him well, he did his best for us.

Surely that isn’t freeing up £80k per week though? Given that their parachute payment are up this season they have to slash their wage bill as it's far to large for L1 for any club, regardless of size. Realistically either a small fraction or non at all of that £80k saved by moving players on will be reinvested back into the playing budget. They have to cut their cloth as if they fail at achieving promotion this season they'll be in serious trouble come this time next summer if they have the same playing budget.
I thought parachute payments were for 3 years? Is it only 2?
I meant this is their last season of parachute payments so after this year they’re done.
Their defence is awful so would be interested to see if Willis can tie it all together.
It't not just the parachute payments, relegated teams get a 1 season grace period before they have to comply with the FFP rules for the division so last year Sunderland didn't have to comply with the wages cap (x% of turnover) but this season they will.I meant this is their last season of parachute payments so after this year they’re done.
Willis or grigg? He is on £10k/week up there. Not too shabby!
