So under The new format you play 9 times if you get to the final
I really think we should drop out of this asap
A win or 2 in the other cups with potential money spinning ties maybe, but we don't need 9 pointless matches
I can already hear the howls of laughter when the news breaks. So under The new format you play 9 times if you get to the final

Just thinking the same thing, it didn't do Barnsley any harm last yearWinning is a good habit to get into. Both finalists last season ended up getting promoted.
I wonder if the new format still includes the silly rule in which 5 players who started the previous league game must start?
This rule should be adopted for the fa and league cups as well, can't see how it works for the under 21 teams
Don't agree with the rule anyway
While point of having a squad of professional footballers isn't it? They can play whenever they are called upon when available for selection.
You get a big team in the cup away and you go to watch and they put it in a team of kids while you pay to see the first team players another abuse on the generosity of fans
Get what you're saying but I don't see the issue/ how rules can be applied to tell a manager who must play.
If anything as that night at Old Trafford proved it can do the underdog a favour. I wouldn't change watching us beat that United side 2-0 to see us hammered 4-0 by their first team in first gear.
But it is embarrassing when the kids beat you

3 group games to get to last 32/16/8 then a 2 legged area final as well as the final. Could push towards a 60 game seasonAt the group stage you only play each other once so only six games to the final. Also the premier teams only play one home game, should be more news by end of the week or early next week.
Farce...
"Tottenham and Manchester United have both pulled out of this season’s EFL Trophy, with Liverpool reportedly set to follow.
Both clubs were two of the 16 Category One academies invited to take part in the competition, which can only be described as wonderfully complicated.
The intention was that the 48 clubs from League One and League two would be joined by the 16 Category One academies. These would play in a 64-team group stages split into 16 groups on a regional basis.
Manchester United have already rejected to offer to join the competition, with Spurs making it a maximum of 14 invitees. However, Liverpool and Manchester City may well be the next two clubs to say thanks but no thanks." - http://www.football365.com/news/spurs-and-man-united-turn-down-efl-participation
Muppets the lot of them . :banghead: :wtf:All extremely embarrassing for the EFL. You would have thought they would have confirmed support from the PL academies before announcing the change of format

Now that four have said no and as Watford don't really have an academy we're left with 15. Even if no other clubs say no that leaves one short. I guess they'll ask Villa, Blues, Forest, Newcastle, etc.
the extra mid week games will be good preparation for our 2019-2020 Champions League campaign.
The shambles that this is they will probably ask them to put in their first team:banghead:
