Apparently he carries on the same way in training, flying into challenges and running head down with the ball until he loses it
Then does something amazing like his goal last week
Either Robins will sort him out or I suspect he won't be here too long
There’s a balancing act with players like this.
You don’t want to ‘tame’ them per se, because having that commitment and drive gives people that edge.
However, we need to manage it, because that was a pretty senseless challenge to make in the circumstances. That second red card should have really left us dead and buried.
It’s one red card and unless it’s a persistent theme with Kastaneer, I’m happy to let it slide because the red was inconsequential in the end.

It was hardly like either were violent. One was a mistimed tackle and the other was an attempted block.
How’s it inconsequential? It’s a small squad and he’s suspended from the next game knowing one other also was.
It's not a small squad. You can argue about the quality of some of the younger players but they're still part of the squad and right now we've got 37 players being paid to be professional footballers for us with another 3 out on loan. For the likes of Man City or Liverpool that might be a small squad but at this level it's quite large. Not bloated, but it definitely needs to start looking at its calorie intake.
So what to you is a large squad? I'd say 37 plus a kid not yet on pro terms and with another three out on loan is not small.
Grenners has got a new hate figure

Didn’t help doing it right next to the Pompey crowd either, all up on their feet remonstrating as if he’d been pole axedThe one that got him sent off was mind blowingly stupid
It helps to be horny
Urghh.....who on earth would want to enter a rhino while playing chess....or in fact, while playing any other board game for that matter.
Most of the squad is U23 and players with no experience.
If we hadn’t signed a loan player and we have two suspensions and Jobello and Allen injured (also exclude brown and I suspect Biamou) can you name a bench with game experience?
Are we playing them to be professional footballers for CCFC? Yes, so they're part of the squad. Just because they're young and inexperienced doesn't mean they don't count. Bolton had to play us with much younger and less experienced players and got a draw.
Or do you think we should completely ignore youth and development and just have 25 experienced first team players ready to go at all times? Apart from the cost of that there'd be so many disgruntled players in the squad it'd probably be a poor environment. And that'd be an even smaller squad
Maybe that's why the likes of Allesanni and Bosma haven't been in the U23 squad, possibly out on trials ahead of a loan move etc. It's big enough for L1 compared to most other clubs this season
Robins said last week he wants a few to go out before the deadline to reduce the numbers

Strange you use Bolton as an example to justify your argument as they cancelled a game as the squad was not capable of playing 2 games in a week
Anyone would rather 25 experienced players clearly
As long as players are paid they tend to not be too disgruntled
If we hadn’t signed a loan we have a midfield of 3 available only
Most of the players you refer to wouldn’t normally even get a squad number
But a squad of 25 would be a small squad, even if they were all experienced pro's. But you'd go for that despite complaining a squad of 40 is too small.
Players aren't disgruntled if they're paid - Junior Brown, Abu Ogogo, JCH, Andreu, Doyle, Davies, O'Brien - all players from the last 12 months who've not been happy because they've not been getting game time and have moved on bar one.
Barring injuries this season I can see at least one or two of Hiwula, Baka and Max not being happy at not getting game time. I'd also expect one of the CB to not be happy to missing out and even Wilson despite being signed as a back-up keeper.
If we hadn't signed the loan we'd have way more than 3 midfield available.
We'd have Kelly, Shipley, Westbrooke, Eccles, Maycock, Young, Bartlett and Bosma all AVAILABLE to play. As well as attacking midfielders Burroughs and N'Gandu, plus Allassani who supposedly favours an ACM position. You may not want to play them but they're AVAILABLE because they're part of the SQUAD. We've got 32 players with squad numbers and another 9 which have numbers allocated to them.
The fact is we do not have a small squad - we have 40 players that we pay to be professional footballers.
And the fact is most of those without an appearance are never going to considered for the first team
20 years ago most of those players you’ve mentioned would be in the club but not even have a squad number
The unhappy players you listed have left because the manager wanted them out - the only one not happy was Davies
Yes they left because the manager wanted them out, but they were unhappy at not playing while they were still here. Doyle could've refused to leave and run his contract out as could JCH. Ogogo had a nice long-term contract to sit on and was being paid - he could've also chosen not to leave. They all did because they wanted out as much as the manager because they were unhappy.
Only ones of those midfield I've mentioned to not have a first team appearance are Bartlett, Young and Bosma. 1st two have only been here about a month and are 18 and 19 .
Going back 20 years the following superstars had squad numbers:
Gary McPhee (30)
Stephen McPhee (27)
Thomas Cudworth (42)
Gerry Mooney (40)
Mark Burrows (41)
Adam Mehmet (43)
Barry Ferguson (25)
Richard Spong (29)
Craig Strachan (44)
Chukki Eribenne (39)
along with youngsters Betts (38), Fowler (37), Pead (36), Quinn (22), G. Strachan (21) and Kirkland (33) who were 'nowhere near being considered for the first team'.
20 years ago most of those players you’ve mentioned would be in the club but not even have a squad number
and I've shown that their equivalents did have squad numbers.20 years ago most of those players you’ve mentioned would be in the club but not even have a squad number
Wikapedia is about as trustworthy as a Nigerian PrinceWiki is a wonderful thing but some of those players actually were awarded shirts for a final game of the season and wiki shows most of those as reserve team players but shows we had over 30 players who were considered active for the first team doesn’t it?
Ah the usual Grendel deflection. You said we had a small squad - I showed we didn't. You said 20 years ago players like those in the squad wouldn't have a squad number - I proved they did.
I mentioned Quinn, Kirkland and Strachan's etc as nowhere near the first team because they were as far away from the team as the likes of Eccles, Maycock etc are now. They were being looked at but not considered as ready for regular first team action. Kirkland had Hedman, Hyldegaard and Oggy ahead of him for example. Craig Strachan was never particularly close to the first team even though his dad was manager.
Just admit we don't have a small squad and that 20 years ago the type of players that have squad numbers today also had them 20 years ago.
Good to see these thread are on topic
Hyldegaard was considered our back-up keeper that year, ahead of Oggy (at the start of the season at least). Kirkland was only just out of the academy and although highly rated was not considered close to first team ready at that point.
So what if we had that many players 20 years ago - we had 49 just with squad numbers last year. Given the huge numbers of loans we used mid-00's we probably got around the 50 mark a few times then.
You said we had a small squad - we don't. You said reserve/youth players with squad numbers now wouldn't have got one 20 years ago - they did.
