But he got the worst of the injuries through crashing into a post making a goal line clearanceAnyway Kelly is the epitome of injury prone
You shouldn’t be offering players deals for loyalty - Shipley has also been on our
journey as well so give him a new deal
Not sure I ever mention wages apart from debunking overestimates as far as I rememberAnd tbh, the itk who you mention shouldn't be coming on a public forum discussing player wages. I love his little team leaks and any transfer inside leaks but player wages should be kept away from our knowledge, shouldn't it?
Top of my head he got the volley off the post, back of keepers head in the equaliser at Blackburn, cross for goddens goal away at Bournemouth and assist for godden last minute against Bristol. More assist contributions than Allen, Shipley or Jones and probably waghorn and that's not even his game.
If Kelly stays then fine, he's gotta prove he's worth a place in our squad and he's got to stay fit.
If Kelly goes, fine, he's 32 and earned his status as a bit of a cov hero who's helped dragged us up from the shite.
Personally I like Eccles and hope he now steps up but I'm worried about his injury record. Freak injuries or injury prone?
But he got the worst of the injuries through crashing into a post making a goal line clearance
We are going to need 9 subs next year so need to keep some senior fringe players
Kelly is one of the hardest trainers at the club
Not sure I ever mention wages apart from debunking overestimates as far as I remember
The guy came from a relegated league 2 side whilst we were in league 2 ourselves. He's had 2 contract extensions since been here and I assume some promotion bonuses. But the idea he's top 3 earner which people are spouting on here has to be bollocks and its damaging because everyone now wants him out because of it.
Is he good enough for our starting 11 now? No.
Will he do a job when required? Yes
Is he worth keeping around for 21 games in 2 months or whatever it is next season. Obviously yes.
Stop trying to shift squad players that can do a job but aren't top 6, because next season when hamer has pissed off and we're stuck with back up of Shipley, allen or ngandu, we're gonna wish we had Kelly still around
It was a deal for achievement though, wasn't it.You shouldn’t be offering players deals for loyalty

The reason we've been short is because we've got players like Kelly and Godden out injured half the timeWe need a larger squad next season that is as strong as possible throughout, we’ve been caught out this season with a threadbare squad which is probably why we didn’t make the top six, 5 subs too. Kelly is ideal back-up for the regular midfield and we know what we get with him. if we let him go he will need to replacing.
It’s football mate and injuries are part and parcel of it unfortunately as for Kelly & Godden both had rare injuries keeping them out for a long while and added to that Godden had appendicitis leaving him out for 9 matches, hardly an injury is it.
Do you add Dabo to your list, missed a lot of games too, shall he jettison him too ?
Club captain, was indeed a key figure last season in us staying up, along with being a key figure in getting us up in the first place. Was it? He wasn’t a pivotal figure for a lot of last season
For what it's worth i like Kelly even though I don't believe he really fits with the way we try to play now. The greater concern is his injury record (though it might just be coincidental bad luck).
It's a difficult balance really, for a team that conceded for the first goal in more than half their games you do wonder whether we've missed his presence more than you might have thought.

I'm not talking about you pal don't worryNot sure I ever mention wages apart from debunking overestimates as far as I remember

Yeah I think we have outgrown him now as well but I don't think he's totally out of his depth, I think he has a role to play behind the scenes, training ground and on the pitch when he gets an opportunity but realistically, of course we've outgrown him. What I don't like is the 'sack him off he's leaching 18k a week' bollocks that goes around on here. There is no loyalty in football, and our fans have turned on him because of a comment made on this forum that he's top 3 earner at the club. Waghorn was never accepted because a wage comment was made before he'd even signed. That's a bit fanciful to say the least & really not how stats work.
Blackburn own goal; although a great effort & brilliant that it resulted in a goal that's down to luck, in stats terms it's a Shot Off Target, nothing more.
He has 1 assist this season - for Godden v Bristol City. Bournemouth was a shot parried out to Godden & therefore not an assist.
As I've said numerous times, assists is a rubbish stat anyway.
I totally understand the desire to defend him, he's been fantastic for the club & deserves maximum respect but the simple fact is we have outgrown him as with Shipley & the likes of Grimmer etc. previously.
He can't play the way we do now, his use of the ball is nowhere near good enough.

Yes mate, that is how life works. That's a long way away from your statements earlier in the season about him being the first name on the team sheet.
I'll let MR decide that though if that's okay with youNo one is turning on him but of course there’s no loyalty - he’s passed his sell by date - goodbye
I'll let MR decide that though if that's okay with you
Lame answer - resigning squad players and players no where near good enough have been significant factors in having a squad of players half of which we can’t select from as they are not good enough
the fact is we’ve signed him on a big wage so have little choice to keep him unless we engineer some season loan and pay a contribution
Thankfully Mark Robins didn’tI get it to a point for low earners filling squad places as to turnover the whole squad on limited budget isn't achievable - their replacements would cost significantly more but you, I & many others all said it at the time; 2 years for Kelly was madness.
The little knocks Eccles keeps picking up will hamper his chance of a career hereKelly has been a great servant to us, never moans, and always willing to do what ever is required, I'd happily keep him as a squad player, but I think he's too far down the pecking order to get much game time.
Sheaf and Eccles will be ahead of him, and now Howley is comming through the ranks, so he'd be fighting for a place on the bench at best.
I think it's time to move on, and we can use the wages elsewhere.
Thankfully Mark Robins didn’t
Really can't see why fans want to see this lad go
Plenty of clubs would take him for his experience and positive influence on their dressing room
I'd be amazed if we let him go
It will be Robins decision and Kells is one of his leaders on the pitch when he plays
But Robins does, are you better qualified than him then.Thankfully?
We are committed to another year of our 5th best CM being one of our highest earners. I don't think that's great business personally.
Played well today considering the amount of football he's played .
More than worth his wage and adds much needed depth to the squad
Just my 2cent
What is his wage?
I'm not against having him as a squad option if he can ever stay fit but just think the money could have been used better elsewhere.
I don't know what he's on but he was probably our highest paid player when we were in L2 but he certainly deserved itWhat is his wage?
