Firstly, just want to introduce myself as im pretty new to the forum!

Secondly, Richard bloody keogh..

You have probably had many threads/discussions about this guy, but look how far he has come!

When he first arrived 2 seasons ago, me and my dad were sitting at the Ricoh thinking, "Who is this guy and is he any good?" He arrived from league 2 club Carlisle, only in his early 20's so hadn't really established himself in the game.

But over the 2 years he has been with us he has taken his opportunity with both hands, he has become stronger, more aware, and a natural leader.

I try and get down to as many home games as I can these days, but now living in essex for the past year.. its been tricky! But back to the point..

Every time I watch Keogh play, he never fails to impress me with his leadership on and off the pitch (when i watch his interviews on SBPlayer).

Theres no reason why he cant achieve Premer League football in the future, hopefully with us

Ill be there at Ashton gate on monday with my dad, looking forward to seeing him and the team snatch all 3 points!

To be quite honest, Keogh has been a bit off the boil last few games. Overall this season though he has been our best player.

Unfortunatly not been able to get to many games recently! He looked pretty solid against brum, winning every ball in the air

He's had an immense season. His rampaging forward runs remind me of Konjic's-and I can't remember the last time the opposition have got the ball off him without fouling him when he does it!

Agreed! He sometimes puts himself under too much pressure with his twists and turns.. but he knows what hes doing

Not talking about last week though, Rob. The last few games overall. He has made a few uncharacteristic mistakes and not been quite so commanding. I didn't go to Hull so I can't comment on that one single game.

I think he's been more exposed recently but has added more marauding runs in the way of another cult hero that we had in big Mo. Can do little wrong in my eyes, he and Cranie were my votes for player of the season last year and little has changed this year for me. I really hope Cranie signs a new deal because if we can stay up and hold what we now have, then I'm relatively excited for next season.

I obviously watch a complete different game from some people. Without Keogh we would be rock bottom of this league and already relegated. If we were to stay up a massive thank you has to go to Keogh. He is the only one in the team who throws himself in front of everything. He has the heart of a lion and deserves a huge bonus if we stay in this league

Not only watch different games, but read different forums unless you can point out to me the post that says he isn't any good????

To a point with this I agree, however, how you cannot also point out, Nimley or Deegs for example, as being the only one throwing themselves into everything I find disappointing!! Keogh has been awesome but there are others

I don't mean it to sound that the others don't try. Nimely i think has been really good and deegan has played well in some games but consistently Keogh is awesome and when we're defending in my opinion, he is the only one who is willing to get hurt for the cause

Yes their are other players who have thrown their bodies on the line for the team. But i agree with big cyrille, without having keogh in the side we would be struggling.

RK is easily good enough for some of the middling clubs in the Premiership.

What we have here at CCFC is one of the best centre backs over the past 10 years and possibly beyond - he has everything:

* pace
* power
* puts his head where others would flinch
* virtually unbeatable in the air
* inspirational
* never say die
* a born leader

I could go on

Yes, this guy is immense for CCFC, but he's ours for the moment but maybe not for long when the big boys start sniffing during the summer.

Don't forget also that RK was in reality a "4th Div" player with Carlisle before he signed for us - how many more gems are lurking in the lower leagues awaiting recognition. ???

Keogh is a great example of what can be achieved through hard work and passion

Not technically the greatest footballer but always puts in 100% and his determination and will to win elevates him to being a top player in the champ - we'll do very well to keep him in the summer

This is how it is for us. We have to enjoy these players as they pass through from the lower leagues to the top. It's a good deal for both parties. We get a decent player for a couple of years and they get in the shop window. Let's hope that if he goes in the summer we don t have any " he wasn't t that good anyway" posts

Welcome to SBT Liam. I would say Keogh was well reem and proper Jel! His performances this season have been superb and he wears his heart on his sleeve. Also hasnt he played almost 2 whole seasons with us now without missing a single game? (Could be wrong with that stat) He has got to be named in the championship team of the season for sure!

I agree with just about all the good comments about Keogh, but would also like to add his organisational skills, but mainly the help he has given to the younger players that have come into the team. He has helped them all season. We have seen our younger players advance this season, and all this can't be taught on the training ground.

Not wanting to start a debate here, but one of the mistakes AT has made this season has been not making Keogh captain. He reads the game well, motivates the players and always gives his all. If we didn't have him this season we would have been relegated ages ago.

I agree that in hindsight he probably should be captain, but it would have been a difficult and potentially divisive decision to take it away from Clingan. Especially at the start of the season when he was still a big fan's favourite, and had been captain under AT at the end of last season.

As for RK, he's an absolute warrior and thank the powers above that he hasn't taken a knock at any point this season. Him and Cranie have saved us countless points this season in my eyes and I reckon we'd be down already without them.

He was player of the season last year and should be player of the season again this time round. God knows how we've kept hold of him.

He's the best defender we've had in a long while (a poor game by his standards is a pretty standard one for any other defender) and he's the perfect example of a player leading by example. As was alluded to earlier, I don't think we'd be in with a sniff of staying up without his leadership qualities at the back to carry the youngsters through.

There's plenty of them, as Bobby Gould-and Andy Thorn-know full well. One of the crimes of this regime has been that a manager with a great "little black book" hasn't even been given a tiny bit of leeway to spend a few pennies in the lower and non-leagues to snap up those gems. Would it really have broken the bank to sign another 2 or 3 Keogh's or Hussey's for 50-200k this season? You're almost guarnateed to make your money back if you pick the right one's (and there are lots, and Thorn knows who many are). Not only that, but the good chances are you'll make between 5-10 times your initial investment back on some of them, so it pays for itself. Rinse and repeat. Get enough of them, and you are Norwich..

Said it before and I'll continue to say it-this is what I mean when I say SISU don't understand football business.

Spot on. It was ever thus, even in the top flight. Maybe the start of our downfall was that we started signing Hadji's and McAllister's on megabucks (and remember Hadji was a luxury player, and Macca pretty crap for us until his last season!) instead of the Gynn's, Peakes and Kilclines from the lower leagues who cost a lot less and give it everything they've got. Indeed Peake and Killer possessed a lot of the attributes that Keogh has-passion, bravery, leadership. Although he lacks Killer's aerial ability or Peake's almost psychic ability to read the game, Keogh has more skill and pace then either of them!

100% nlhwc - the only thing that concerns me now is if Thorn is up to date on these players. I doubt with 18 months out of the scouting he has time to see enough lower league. This season past was our chance and we would likely have picked up one example in Le Fondre. It is possible that Cody was his first choice as stated but a small gamble to have taken both. Possibly Madine too before Wednesday picked him up and no doubt countless more that I wouldn't have heard of (since I didn't know anything about Keogh for example until we were interested)

There were a few last season-we were very close to snapping up Lee Tomlin from Rushden, but they couldn't stretch the budget. He was a Thorn spot, but very well known to anyone who follows the non-league game. Cracking little player, as he has since proven at Posh. And we'll probably see today. Got a bit of attitude, but I like that in a player.

Sorry, when I said "lower league", I was writing from our perspective, i.e. a league above League 1 (at the moment!). Making Carlisle...? :wave:

Sorry wasn't aimed at you, more at the original post. Saying how well he had done stepping up from league 2. In fact Carlisle we're in league one 2008-09 and 2009-10 seasons when keogh was there.

I like Keogh, he's a good solid player.
