does anyone know why Conor Thomas isn't showing on the official website as being in our squad? probably something obvious that i'm not thinking of but was wondering if maybe he is what we are using to bargin for this new strikerof ours?
Andy Morrell - was played most of the time as a winger! Not really given a chance as a striker here but wasn't as prolific over a sustained period like ALF - yes, he scored 34 in only 45 games in the 2002-03 season, BUT only scored two goals the entire previous season
Robbie Simpson - wasn't really the same as he didn't have a record of 80 goals in 180 appearances as ALF has, he was a lot younger & not a league player - played in the conference,
Roy O'Donovan - came from Sunderland not lower league - again, not decent record over a sustained period of time & not really had a chance to show what he can do.
AM didn't get a fair run, but did get his chance. We signed him for goals that he couldn't produce at this level. Not a criticism, not his fault just an example used.
Simpson was no -league but a massive NL reputation and peopel were sure he would step up. He didn't and he hasn't shone since dropping either
ROD we may have signed from Sunderland but we did so on the back of his L1 spell on loan with Hartlepool
No need to look for excuses, they were simply other examples of others who have produced at a lower level and not been able to continue as per the other examples offered in FE and CB.
As I said, let's hope this one is different
ROD wasn't from lower league, played just 15 games in League 1 so I don't think it's a good example, like saying he's never scored a league goal here, which is a fact but he's made 2 appearances! They were one good season players, not sustained like ALF.
I agree about Freddy because his was sustained success.

Pace is an extra string to your armoury.
i like clive platt he's a good player he played well when covering for king last season against middlesbroughI've got a horrible feeling Le Fondre is going to be another one that slips out of our grasps at the last minute. I hope behind the scenes they are working really hard to get this one done. I've said before I'm a big fan of Le Fondre and honestly think he'll make a big difference to the team. We need someone in or we'll have Platt up front on Saturday
I don't see where it says they are favourites, just says they are interested which we already knew.Sheffield Wednesday are favourites ?????

The Star? Good God man have some self respect.
Evening All,
I COME IN PEACE!
Just wondering what you think the chances of Le Fondre signing for you are?
We all seem to think he'll sign for us but we're not certain.
Oh and good luck for the season and hope you beat Leicester on saturday!

We're a bunch of cynical bastard who've been fooled one too many times and won't believe he'll sign until he's on the pitch, and even then would suspect it's Freddy Eastwood in a mask.
The rumour mongers are saying he'll sign with us.....or you....or someone else.
If I had to guess I'd say that if we can match your offer (a BIG if) he'll sign for us.
There is a budget in place for the team, just not a very big one. We have already made huge cut backs this summer and the board and owners know we have to sign a few players otherwise we will be in serious danger of relegation.Yeah, we're pretty much like that..
I thought you guys were in trouble financially? Or at least didn't have any to spend? Or am I just wrong? haha
I've got hunch we'll sign him but no more than that. I haven't really seen anything concrete that suggests we're anywhere near completing a deal.
Good luck to your lot as well. Much rather see you back in the Championship than your red and white neighbours.

Well no-one knows for sure. We know we're losing a shit ton of cash, that we nearly hit admin last season and that we can't offer any player more than a bag of peanuts and 30 minutes with the Sky Blue Crew in terms of wages, yet we've got investors in talks and in the last couple of days we've been linked with several players and offered new contracts to everyone who is up at the end of the season.
Hence why I said it's a big if if we can outbid you. Though I'd hope if we do that the lure of Championship football would win out, no disrespect to you guys of course.
Aye, we're all desperate to get out of this horrible league but we are here for a reason!
I would have rather seen Crystal Palace go down than your lot. Plus you've been spending quite a bit in this transfer window, goes to show how much you want to get out of that league; and if we're not careful we'll be down there next season too.
Sorry to say but it is not always depressing. If he chose us over your team I would not be depressed at allI have no doubt in my mind that if you had a bid accepted that he would choose you over us. We have found out over the summer that if a player thinks he can get Championship football over League One football then he will wait for the Championship offer, even if we can offer first team football and a deal straight away. It's very depressing
Strange I always rated Alan Irvine when he managed PrestonTo be fair in this transfer window we haven't spent anything! But in the january window we spent an estimated £1.3m on Players who generally turned out to be crap! But we had an awful manager in charge at the time (Alan Irvine).
I think you lot will be alright this season, there are worse teams in the Championship this year I reckon!

If you're still around SWFC, what do you think of Gary Madine? He was very raw when we had him on loan but I thought in the right team to his strengths he had the promise of Andy Carroll but a couple of years behind, however it seems I'm alone as everyone else I speak to says he wasn't up to it despite his age.
