I dislike the way everyone keeps digging the kid out for things that aren't his fault. He was solid tonight. The penalty was leathered at him from 12 yards and he did well to get anything on it..

League 1 is a simple league, let's not blow our little money on a keeper. Burge will get better in time. Keepers always get better with experience.

He's not improving and he's not very good.

Agree with Grendel. The back 4 don't want to give the ball to him, which often results in Ricketts/Reda playing a risky pass to the midfielders or wing backs and losing the ball.

The other thing about him is one day he will definitely get some for handling outside the box when goal kicking.

Why he insists on kicking like that God knows.

Crazy just to blame our keeper, outfield players lack of concentration and a rash challenge in the box from us down basically to inexperience. Burge nearly saved the spot kick but the difference between the two sides was probably Dan Bentley (England Youth Int) who was Southends MOTM!

I noticed that aswell. JOB, Armstrong, Lameiras and Murphy all made early runs off the ball today when Burge had the ball in his hands and he never released it once. I think the attacking players will be a bit pissed off with him, that they are getting into good positions early and he isn't releasing it...

We have an experienced goalkeeper who is the goalkeeping coach AKA Steve Ogrovich....do you not think if he thought Burge was no good he would strongly advise Mogga to replace him? He obviously sees the potential and the improvement and has advised Mogga to trust he will prove himself and become a very decent stopper

The GK is the most important position in a team. Maybe he has 'potential', but Burge is not good enough now and is a major liability for us.

Burge hasn't got a chance at this club with some of our fans who seem to love to destroy players.

Neither goal was Burges fault though so he could not have won us the game. The difference was they scored a penalty we missed one (again). Also our attacking play lacked tempo at times along with too many sloppy balls in midfield. In the first half Johnson put a header past the post he should of buried.

Unless you keep watching a GK and not just when the ball comes the GK can look better than he is.

A decent GK keeps the defence together. He will let them know where he wants them. He will point out unmarked attackers. Distribution will be much better than a 50% success rate as that would be an average of having your eyes shut whilst letting the ball go.

If the defenders don't have faith in their GK they will not be as organised as much as they should be as they can't see everything as good as the GK. This leaves gaps.

And why are the performances of our defenders being used in the cause of making Burge sound near faultless? Our defenders are the ones that scored our goals last night. If they go forward they will be at times caught out when the other side counter attacks. Shall we just keep them in defence and lose one of our attacking options?

Burge isn't a bad keeper. But he certainly isn't a good one yet. Very average to me. And if we are going to be near the top of the table at the end of the season we will need a GK that can win us some points. Burge can be a liability at times.

i quite like burge & think he has had some good games, and think he will be a decent keeper ( only young ) but i thought the goal was his fault, it was only a couple of yards out & so he should have been coming out and taking that ball.

Burge may not be the best in our Division but he far from being the worse. We all need to get behind the whole team, regardless.

Oggy was fearless. He played at a time where the GK was a target and not protected. He dominated his area. You could clearly hear him over the crowd when he was organising his defence. He made some great saves frequently. So he was forgiven for his kicking.

I think you will find that not one single person has just blamed our keeper.

Can't get over how good the Southend keeper was last night! Was like watching Kieran Westwood! Worth the same as a 20 goal a season striker.

Looked confident too. Burge doesn't. He doesn't have enough command about him.

He'll be top end of the champ very soon!

I'm sure he made a name for himself on the play off final by winding up pen takers and saving a few.

His whole arrogance last night before the pen and then when time wasting last night was very good especially against a weak ref.

That save last kick of the game was the best I have seen for many years live pos since Westwood at Birmingham and that double save. Watched it again this morning and didn't look as good on replay but he had no right to save it!

He was superb. Watched the highlights again and didn't realise just how good the one from Tudgay was right at the the death.

A lot of Burge's supporters on here stand by him because he has come through the academy. Would they share the same views if Pressley or Thorn had bought him from elsewhere?

Can anyone honestly say from performances this season 'he had a great game today' or 'he kept us in it with a string of saves'? I'm seeing people say he was solid. Was he? Really? Not a chance. On his line for the 1st when he should've either claimed or put his body on the line and the penalty was straight at him because he didn't decide to move yet still couldn't do anything about it. Plus he was already a couple of yards off his line before their player struck it.

It's all good getting behind the team and remaining positive but is it really worth being in denial over a player who has such obvious flaws? I've said it before and I'll say it again, he will never play above this level. I don't ever recall him being linked with a move elsewhere. If he were even half decent there would've been a rumour or 2 by now. This isn't about finding a scapegoat, it's about highlighting just how detrimental he is to our otherwise exciting team.

Time to give RCC a run or bring in someone with experience who can help settle the back 4.

anybody notice when he caught the ball and their player challenged him (probably was a foul) burge decided to get up and shove him? If their player had gone down, Burge would have been off I think.

It was a shove at best. Think people need to lay off the chap, Tm has faith in him so why can't we, not exactly made howlers this season has he? I am confident he will make saves that will save us points, hes obviously a keeper who relies on confidence, o lets give him some. if he makes mistakes TM will change him with RCC, until then back the lad

If Thorn had brought him in many would be claiming that Burge will one day go on to play for England.

Those who support Burge remind me of Thorn's admirers. Everyone can see they aren't up to the job, yet some cannot accept it, despite the negative impact it will have on the team.

People are now blaming Oggy now for not coaching him properly.

The people defending him need to ask were they defending Alsopp as well and if not why not as he certainly performed to a better standard than Burge.

Cant help but think a change in the backroom staff is needed, for me the problem with Burge & the back 4 at the moment is from set pieces more than anything, this is an organizational issue and I think that has to go further than the players on the pitch.

I am sure Mowbray will be going to Oggy today to ask questions about their 1st yesterday.

Weve seen Burge make great saves but it is his organization this season and the back end on last season that worries me.
