Big crowd expected for the Leeds game

Leeds United visit The Ricoh on Saturday 6th November and have already sold nearly 6,000 tickets for the game.
Coventry City manager Aidy Boothroyd has pleaded for Coventry fans to respond to the number of Leeds fans coming to The Ricoh by turning up to support their own team.
With the Sky Blues now in a play off position and playing reasonably well, there is a mood of quiet optimism among the fans and the team and Boothroyd is hoping to cash in and attract a bumper crowd to the game. He is also hoping that a record crowd for this season will be the catalyst needed to attract more fans back on a regular basis.
Boothroyd said, “It’s good that Leeds are bringing so many fans but if we can get 19,000 of our own fans through the gate to get it to 25,000 it will be brilliant. I think because of the way things have been at the club in recent years there is probably still a bit of apathy but people are now starting to think, hang on a minute.

"We are starting to nudge people in the ribs and saying, ‘Any chance of you coming down because we have started to win again?’ and the more we win the more people will want to come. We are playing a brand of football that first and foremost has got a lot of character to it. "
"We have been one-nil down and come back to win, we have got players who can score goals, we have got some warriors in there who are getting crunching tackles in and it is exciting. And the more that word spreads then the more people will come back and if we can get 19,000 City fans through the gates and we can out-sing them then it will be a really good day for the club and the Ricoh Arena. It will be brilliant for us.
“One of my goals is to eventually get the stadium full on a regular basis and be like the Boston Red Sox and have eight years of sell-out crowds, but you don’t get there until you are successful and that’s what we have got to work hard to do.”
Leeds had sold their initial allocation of 5,200 tickets and asked for another 1,000, of which 900 have been sold. The current 5,900 tickets sold could rise to well over 6,200 by the time the game is played.
Last season the biggest gate at The Ricoh was 22,209 when Leicester were the visitors and they brought 4,802 fans with them, but Leeds had already far surpassed that total.
Boothroyd want at least 19,000 City fans inside The Ricoh cheering on their team,“The fans could make a real difference for us," he said. "Leeds are a good side as well so it could be a cracking game, but first things first, we’ve got to go to Sheffield on Saturday.”

The head of Marketing and Event Sales at Coventry City, Steven Ebanks is impressed with the response from Leeds fans, saying, “To have such a large away following will create a great atmosphere and I am sure the Sky Blue army will play their part.”

Looks like they will be bringing more fans then the Interbreds of Leicester :laugh::laugh:

Now i'm all for creating an atmosphere in the stadium, and i'm sure the revenue from the extra tickets will be handy, but is it really necessary to have 6000 away fans in the stadium?
I guess it will make the home fans have some noise to compete against, which may have a positive impact... but i think it's a little over the top

well think about people who have been there once or twice and wasnt that great but then to expierince a atmosphere of 25,000 people chaanting and booing im sure it will get people thinking they would like to hear that every saturday and it give the players a boost of what the ricoh can be like if they keep up winning and playing good football.

Why shouldn't we allocate more tickets for away fans? I'm all for it! The more there are, the more banter there'll be (hopefully!) Maybe it will also get more of our fans up the ground! I can't wait for this match

Hopefully we will get some more coventry fans up there for this game!
If we do then it should be a good attendance. :)

i think when people read and hear that there is 6,000 "dirty" leeds coming it will spark some interest in the game. Leeds was always gonna be a game people would mark down as a potential to come too if there not regular. this news will surely increase the interest.

we need a good home crowd and a same as the last few games display from the boys and it could well signall the start of an increase in attendance. A good result against sheff utd on saturday is becoming more important by the minute :D

You know what, i think i'm going to go mental and bite the financial bullet and come down for the game. Not been to a game in, i'm ashamed to say, two whole seasons :( Need to get that sorted!!
I'm quite exited already!

SBmania, i live in Lincoln now, only 1.5 hours away to be fair, but the ticket office are doing a deal where you get room at the ricoh hotel and 2 match tickets for 83 quid!!

booked mine today, gotta be worth it just to go on the piss and sample the atmosphere!! few hours in the casino after spot on.

considering the tickets alone would set you back over 40 sheets.....bargain.

worth it if your travelling big man!! :D

Cancel all that, my girlfriend just reminded me we're going to a engagement party on the evening of the 6th. He is a good friend of mine, would that mean he would be more understanding if i didn't go...or more pissed off? Hmmph

I'm all for them filling the away stand, I might even thank them for their money on the way out after we take 3 points off them.

Yes Leeds in your pubs,in your hotels in your end.Oh and filling up the Tesco car park as well. And still you can't sell your tickets.Shamefull.
Tell your ticket office to send some more on top of the 6200 already sold.
The "not famous any more" Leeds United are coming to your town. Now where the fork is Coventry is that a small town in Birmingham?
On and on!

Your just asking for a ban?

Did you hear about the Conservative MP who was found dead in a Leeds United strip?
The police had to dress him up in women's underwear in order to save his family from the embarrassment.

don't worry about us Mug, we will have plenty of vocal support. but as you leave 10 minutes early, hold onto your mommy's hand in the crowd. Okay pumpkin

ha, it will be a good attendance I think! Stop getting so hostile towards the fella. A bit of banter is always good :)

I have to agree with Nick.
Threats of violence just for supporting and representing Super Leeds when none of you know me are quite bizzare(thankfully these posts have been removed)
Has La La La been disiplined for abusing his moderator status for messing with my Avatar?

Theirs a big difference between "a bit of banter" and being on the wind up

For heavens sake - leave him alone. The poor lad comes from Leeds - he probably has to listen to his Dad going on about Billy Bremner, and European Championships, and Norman Hunter, and Alan Clarke (Still the best goal poacher I have ever seen) and Don Revie.
No wonder he comes to rival boards.

You have to love the replaced signature though!

I've not been jumping in on this topic too much because I thought the leeds fan was being a bit of a wum rather than creating banter. But lets play nice for the next week and enjoy a 3 nil city win next Saturday!

Looking forward to this game next week, confident we can win this one and make it a hat-trick of wins. McSheffrey to score and prove to Leeds he is a decent player? I don't think he had a good time during his loan at Leeds after recovering from a long-term injury at Birmingham.. Seems to be a lot fitter now though!

I still remember them the last game of the season at Highfield Road when we needed a draw to stay up in 96.. We stayed up and some of our young lads were on the pitch celebrating and the Leeds fans, vermin that they are attacked our fans..... I ran on after that and smack some big fat leeds twat.... Ohh silly me, Leeds fans are all big fat twats.. A mate of mine got 18 months for trying to stop them from picking on the young lads on the pitch...:mad:
