I can see this from both sides.
Emotions run high at this time of year with Armistice Day and so on but JHFC has a point.

I remember chatting to a German who lives here and she remarked how the British are obsessed with the
past, incessantly nostalgic about bombs and the Battle of Britain, how we've turned all this "Dunkirk spirit" into an industry with even TV stations constantly re running old newsreels. She had a point.

BUT if you go to Berlin you see the same sort of thingjust expressed differently.
There enormous monuments stand as eternal reminders to what happens when the madmen take over.
There's even one monument to "Blitzkrieg" which mentions and depicts Coventry.
The Germans do not want this airbrushed out of history.

The present day wars are no longer about principles of freedom. We're in Afghanistan to protect our ~(or American) commercial concerns.
Our soldiers do a great job but dont kid yourselves that this is about the same values,,,, it isn't.

Classic example of that was the elderly Asian bloke that some chav girl knocked over in Trinity Street who sadly died later on.

EDL claimed it as "the decent white people fighting back".

Some Asian group claimed it as "an example of an unprovoked racist attack".

In reality it was a scummy chav bitch picking on an innocent old man. Yet two sides tried to make it an issue of race.

Agreed, but the fact that the poor bloke was an Asian chap wearing a turban made it more of a badge of honour for the knuckle dragging cow! Hope she gets charged with manslaughter at the very least!
