Far better to spend this season consolidating after years of miss- management and false optimism. If Sky Blues can consolidate this season and be prepared for a promotion push next season - this is far better than listening to false promises for this season. In the unlikely event of promotion this season, would we be properly prepared for competing in the Championship ? I think not.
One of the reasons why fans are fed up is because we listened to promises of an immediate return this season.
If our fans can accept consolodation this season, then they will understand and support this.

We even now still have fans talking about promotion and play-offs. Let's just get safe and consolidate first. Could be next season before we are challenging.

Immediate promotion was never gonna happen and would have been to early in my eyes.
CCFC need to remember what it is like to win games, consecutively, for a few years.
If we went up this year, odds would suggest that relegation would be more of a reality than a decent season in the champ

All i want us to do this season is win more games than we loose, score more goals than we concede and actually get that love feel good factor back! If we do that and start winning our home games the fans will slowly start to return. We know we have a fan base but at the moment they don't want to be here!

Mark Robins knows what he wants he knows what the problem is and he knows he needs to address that first before anything else happens!

Sloppy goals going in have cost us what 15 points???

I think against Oldham we will see a difference, and if we manage to win brilliant, but think we need to start believing again! Once we do that we will slowly rise up the table!

This is indeed the voice of reason. I expect us to just about scrape survival. Trouble is you will probably only get 8000 watching consolidation but what can you do. The club is so fecked that recovery won t happen quickly

Didn't we 'consolidate' for 10 years in the second tier without ever troubling the top 6 before being relegated? How many more years of consolidation do you want?

Low expectations have always blighted this football club. It started with all those years in the top flight when we were happy just to be there.

And now, in the 3rd tier, after just 8 GAMES, with one of the biggest playing budgets in the league, we are told that we should just consolidate and be happy to survive? Fortunately, I've no doubt Robins will have much more ambitious hopes and expectations than that. This throw in the towel, defeatest attitude has to stop.

Fuck consolidation. Let's show some spirit and have a right go this season and if we fall short, well then so be it.

Only 3 teams have come straight back up from league one at the first attempt in the 10 years we've been in the championship, and they all spent money to get back up. The vast majority of teams get promotion in their second or third season.

We have one of the biggest budgets in the leagu because we are paying championship wages to players who are barely good enough to play in league one not because we have the best squad.

If Robins can instil some confidence we will win more than we will lose this season. Having been to over 1/2 the games this season we should probably of won all of the games. I am yet to see us outplayed at any of the games i have been too. A top 1/2 finish isn't being unrealistic. Anything less will be underachievement.

Some supporters need to take the blinkers off and face facts. By all means hope for the play offs, but don't expect it. Accept this and Sky Blues will fly next seson ! Jimmy Hill never achieved promotion in his first season, did he ?

How can you aim to consolidate anyway. It is a flawed idea. Surely you aim to win every game you play in and see where that takes you.

I don't know without checking and I haven't got time at the minute.

You don't aim for consolidation you always aim to do your best but that VOR is on about it fans expectations. Too many expected automatic promotion or play-off promotion before the season had kicked off. Otis got slated for predicting a 14th place finish. We have a lot in common with PNE, they majorly slashed their wage bill and got relegated from the championship then finished 17th in league one last season.

All those years in the Championship when we finished in the bottom third and people would say, next season we should consolidate and then have a go the season after etc. It doesn't work like that, it is simplistic wishy-washy nonsense.

And to suggest that if we win promotion this season we wouldn't be in a position to compete next season in the Championship? What? Who cares, let's worry about that then. Firstly, history shows that teams promoted from league 1 usually compete very well, and secondly promotion would likely result in the strengthening of the squad anyway. It absolutely beggars belief that are are people suggesting promotion would almost be a bad thing.

I'm a Coventry fan, so I don't expect success because we never have any, but I do expect that the players go into every game trying win it and I believe that with the right management we can climb the table. Play-offs are probably too much of a stretch, but let's at least have a go eh? The moment you start aiming for 'consolidation' you immediately rule out any prospect of success.

My expectations for yesterday included watching a professional game of football in which players had the ability to pass to a colleague, be able to head the ball, to have the intelligence not to commit idiotic fouls under the refs nose, to keep the ball on the field of play in attempts to pass the ball. For guys to have some positional sense instead of run after the ball like kids in a playground........................it was appalling, amateurish and unacceptable.

Consolidate now surely! Then see where we are. At the moment we are second from bottom and haven't even won a single game.

We get to Christmas or before even and are then midtable, then we can talk about expectancy of play-offs etc.

Of course, it is about winning games. My concern is that if you lower your sights this early in the season you start going away from home and parking the bus in order to pick up a point. There may be a point in the season when we need to do this, but after 8 games I don't think we should start doing that and I hope we try and play positively and win games on our travels and hold on to the belief we can still do something this season.

Lower your expectations and you start thinking a point away at Oldham is a good result. It isn't.

Agreed, loved the way people thought this League was going to be a walkover and we'll go through it unbeaten at home.

Teams like Stevenage know how to perform on a regular basis for the best part of 90 minutes, hence back-to-back promotions and L1 play-offs last season. Teams like Shrewsbury have only lost once at home in 15 months, and I believe Tranmere's home record is pretty impressive too.

Yet, were supposed to rip the League apart? After hardly winning games last season? After all the non-stability on and off the pitch? With us playing for 20 minutes per game? Yeah right! Teams like Forest and Leeds have struggled for years to get out of this league, why we were supposed to walk it out I'll never know.

I agree with the Football League Show - its all about survival and stability this season. We're 17 points behind the leaders already, so I'll settle for a mid-table/lower mid-table finish. Then, in pre-season, let Robins bring his players in and ship out the dross we have now. While he's at it, let's have a proper pre-season too where everyone is fit and doesn't get knackered after 60 minutes (and then gets shown up by fitter players on-loan from other clubs).

Its like the European debt crisis, all people are advocating is kicking the can down the road..............lets try and win some games next year or the next etc etc, you don't set your stall out to do anything other than win on the day surely. What does consolidate mean exactly?? All the time we lose another few thousand fans a year. I think some folk would like a little 'City till I die' private club with only the Lloyds pharmacy and Block 20 of the Tesco stand open, all sitting patting each other on the backs for their unquestioning support.

I sit here with hope this morning, yes yesterdays result made me feel numb, sat there in disbelief at yesterdays result, bad reffing blah blah, not taking chances blah blah etc

But i'm happy with Robins, he was the right choice, comes across as a straight talking man, we did come out yesterday with some spirit, also we had width which was great to see, he will get his best XI soon and we will start winning games.

Tuesday will be a good release for the players and fans, a full Emirates, no pressure of needing the win, clear underdogs, i'd go 4-5-1 and see what happens.

Onwards and upwards!

Edited to add: top 10 finish and I will be happy, play off place would be a bonus.

Rubbish. Never met a single City fan who said we would walk this league. Are there some, probably, but they're hardly the majority. Plenty of people did expect we'd compete at the right end of the table, and you have given up on this after just 8 games out of 46?

That's incredibly defeatest, and while we have people around the club who are talking about survival as the aim then I don't expect we'll do anything for the foreseeable future. Like I say, low expectations have blighted this club for years, and it seems people have thrown the towel in yet again. I just hope Robins has a bit more to him.

consolidate....sod that..so we spend the nxt 10 seasons in league one,or worse..nah...you have to go for it,or else whats the point,the longer we are down here,the more chance we will become a league two side..then we can consolidate again..and so on..you didn't see norwich or leicester when they went down consolidating.

As i've said, our season started yesterday and now Robins has seen the tripe he has to work with ,then he can only do one thing ,and that is ship out the deadwood and cowards not up to the fight, and get some new loans in ,in the following weeks.

I agree with some Carlisle fans who could'nt believe how bad we were, but that is because the owners put, and supported a scout as manager, for nearly a year and a half. They now relaise what a big mistake that was,and the damage it caused, damage that will be repaired over the coming months , but it should'nt have happened in the first place

Robins had to see the team he inherited play a competative game, and i bet he did'nt sleep well last night, but at last we have someone who will not be the players "best friend" like Thorn and Shaw have been for the last 18 months, and now he has the backing to rid this squad of the shite and get new players in.

We play Oldham next saturday and i am certain we will never see another performance like we have seen the last season and a half.Some fans think we may struggle ,which i would have agreed on if we kept Thorn and Shaw, but now we have a manager who knows "what he expects", and "not what he will accept" like the last two "managers", so we will still do fairly well this season

We need to consoladate this season with a big maybe on a late charge up the table, but if we stay in div 1 this season and be ready for next for a promotion push ,i will take that

We need to take one game at a time and see where it takes us. Let's get away from the bottom first. My only real concern about “consolidation“ which of course maybe what this season ends up being, is who's going to finance our push next year? Are SISU going to stump up another £4M plus wage budget to have another go? Athough a 3 year plan has been mentioned I get the impression year 2 relies on promotion in year 1.

Consolidation......get to safety......try to get promotion next season........none of this for me.

Go out and win as many games as we can. Had enough of this crap we keep coming out with. We shouldn't just be looking for safety. We should be looking at winning games. If we finish mid table then so be it. We should be aiming higher though. The players need a kick up the arse. The ones not willing to put in a full shift should be shipped out. Things will get better. I just hope we turn the corner very soon.

I thnk this "bah, we should be getting promoted from this shite league" is a bit rich for a team with 3 points and no wins from 8 league games. Indeed it's partly this kind of arrogant attitude amongst the players that has led to us being so poor. The table doesn't lie, our "size" has nothing to do with getting points on the board, and we are exactly where we deserve to be at the moment.
