Maybe the trust can link the article again and freedom of speech is making a return.....

New libel laws aimed at giving better protection to people expressing their opinions are to come into force in England and Wales.

Claimants will have to show they have suffered "serious harm" before suing, under the Defamation Act 2013.

"It's taken four years, support from 60,000 people and a cross-party consensus to get to where we are today.

"We hope the judiciary will take note, and that in the future open debate on matters in the public interest will not be chilled by litigious oligarchs or corporations."

He added: "The Defamation Act is good news for free speech.

"We hope it can be used as a template for reform of the law in other countries where all too often journalists and scientists find themselves fined huge sums for speaking out against corruption and malpractice," he said.

Excuse my cynicism but legal eagles draft & re-draft these things until there are areas under which test cases are bought before court & loopholes found (& we know who are dab-hands there).
Defamation is big business for the law firms & courts so they like to encourage challenges to keep the pennies rolling in.
Hence I suspect the damage is done or other tactics will be used in the case of the SBT.

Hopefully the new act is an effective device, however I ain't gonna test it's efficacy ;-)

Whatever the act, if there's a whiff of defamation etc, it wouldn't stop Johnny Big-Bucks threatening legal action against those who can't afford it.

Yes, you have to be careful, I wouldn't agree for a second with those folk who think SISU and Tim Fisher are a bunch of lying, immoral and unethical capitalistic sharks who came to Coventry looking to make profit on a distressed and troubled organisation and when it didn't happen and it became apparent that they had made ridiculous and negligent errors all along the way and then out of sheer spite they started to blame everybody else and his dog before removing the team from it's home City and now hold it to ransom like a Western hostage in a Somalian dungeon !

I agree, I don't agree either, but you forgot to add that they reneged on a legally binding agreement to pay rent and are now out to destroy a tax payer body and a charity. I would not agree with those that say this.
