Local Firms To Help Fund New City Players? (1 Viewer)

I am sure there will be some who moan at the lack of investment from Sisu but this happens at all clubs if you think about it. Company pays £X for sponsorship at the games on the advertising board, the club then adds that money to the budget. This just a different way of saying the same thing, and gives the companies involved a little more interest for their own marketing spend.

It sure as hell beats the players for profits madness that was going on at HR those years ago....

Good news. German clubs get far more from local sponsorship than from tickets. It's a more stable income stream and helps take the weight off the fans financially if done well.

How does this scheme actually work then? What do you get as opposed to just buying advertising from the club. Assume the business gets some benefit.

They buy a player and then that player has to come around and make tea for the board meetings:whistle:

On serious note we did this a few years back before SISU took over. I think it was around the 'Operation Premiership' time.

Well City were doing this year's ago under Richardson, Local businessmen put in a percentage of the fee therefore actually owning that percentage in the player, if he was sold for a profit then they got a return.
That is why we never got the money for the likes of Robbie Keene

Wouldn't that be third party ownership which would be against football rules? aka Tevez and Mascherano West Ham scandal.

Well it was a while ago.
I remember a company in Leamington donating towards the purchase of Paul Telfer,
Don't believe they got their return but he was a big City Fan.

Yea just wondering if that would be allowed now and how it would work, I guess they could simply have a contract saying they get X% of transfer fee of specified player.
Don't think they would actually be allowed in writing to have part ownership of the player though in present day football.

Mike McGinnty introduced it under the Gordon Strachan era. It is how we bought Noel Whelan and Robbie Keane. In those days the player was bought not loaned and if sold on at a profit, a percentage went to the investor.

When I saw the thread title, I thought the Legion were all going to chip in a bit of their job seeker's allowance and pocket money to fund our next signing:claping hands:

(only joking lads!)

I believe 3rd party ownership was made illegal in this country after the Tevez & Mascherano kerfuffle.
