In the last year SISU have taken in about 5m in transfer fees and also took money from playing Arsenal. If they would have reinvested 5% of this 5m and kept the Arsenal money they would have given back £250,000 to the team. £250,000 as you say is a lot of money in Division 3 so would have made a massive difference. But they seem to be hoping on free signings to be sold. How about speculate to accumulate? What would be wrong with reinvesting just 10% of signing fees received? This £500,000 could have seen us with a squad near the top of the table. The higher attendances from a winning side would then have paid for the fees. Promotion?

£500,000 would be 100 Jack Muldoons

The point I was making and not off topic is that only two have signed anyone with the size of fee involved to get Madine.

We do if course have two players we did pay fees for and they are not exactly head and shoulders above the other players either.

Surprisingly less transfer fees than expected but free transfers of good players who have run down their contract and are in demand will have higher salaries - not sure pugh swanson tudguy miller were much in demand. JOB & Reeda were most likely in demand.

Which is why I don't expect us to be challenging with MK Dons, Preston and Bristol for automatic promotion, I expect us to be challenging with Bradford, Notts County, Rochdale, Oldham for the top 10 places and pushing for 6th place

Not sure Madine is worth busting the bank for both in terms of salary and/or wages......people are very unrealistic here when faced with our actual situation and competitiors
around us. Happy to see how it plays out we need to lose a few loan signings anyhow....only Hines of loan signings gone back so far.

You have previously said that nearly all the teams on this league only sign loanees and free transfers

You don't know what the undisclosed fees are as they are just that undisclosed.

I was at Molineux when the bastard scored that offside goal after re-entering the field of play without the ref's permission. I would still have had him tho but we aint got a pot to piss in,so dont look like we in the running for any decent replacements. I certainly wont be having a S/T next year after the crap served up this year.

I don't know If Madine is the answer to our problems or not ,but would be surprised If he attracts a fee .

I'd say the biggest hurdle to signing him would be wage demand and length of contract.

Yep, and whether he's willing to take a big drop in wages now, or wait and take his chances in the summer. It's same reason Nouble will only want to stay on loan.

Correct. Our best hope is he refuses a deal in January with another club in the hope he can elevate his wage potential in the summer.

They're going to be having eyes on next years budget aren't they ?

Probably be reluctant to offer even 18 months currently .

You'd expect sales In the region of £2M + In the summer just to get close to this years budget but then we've probably carried 4-5 players

too many this term ,at least In terms of getting anything out of them .

No I mean our best hope is we can keep him until the end of he season he scores some goals and a championship club signs him.

There is no way we can afford Madine or nouble on a contract.

The frustrating thing is we struggle sti with these players who are earning more than virtually any player in league one.

Be a miracle if we keep Madine, he will be off, but hey at least their is the new stadium to look forward too, I mean its plainly obvious they have 20m to build it and a few million to purchase the land, but unfortunately due to this we have not got 150k for Madine who could bang in a few and be resold at 1m +.

The Sky Blues boss expects a busier period after the Walsall game with no fixture for ten days and the departure of several loan players...
Coventry City manager Steven Pressley has expressed his intention to extend Gary Madine's loan spell with the club.

The striker has played in all but one game since his arrival back in November, netting three goals, but the current deal means he will return to Sheffield Wednesday after the Walsall game on Saturday.

Pressley again stated that he is the club's number one target and is eager to extend his loan before looking at his longer term future.

"There is a chance at the moment to extend Gary Madine's current loan spell with the club for a further 28 days," Pressley said.

"We hope we can agree that, but come the end of the month Gary will have decisions to make whether that be continue playing his football here or elsewhere, Gary can make that call.

"We stress he is our number one target but a lot will come down to financial issues and if Gary can get an offer out of our structure that's something we can do nothing about.

"But Gary has been playing really well over the past few months, he's become a real presence and influence on the way the team plays. He's given us that focal point and his contribution to the team hasn't just been goals and assists but the way he brings others into play."

Madine is one of a number of players who will return to their parent clubs after the Walsall clash on Saturday, with Pressley confirming earlier this week that Seb Hines is one of the loanees who won't be staying with the club.

But the manager admits he still has plenty of decisions to make, although there is nothing in the pipeline just yet.

The City boss added: "There is nothing imminent bu we expect a very busy week after the Walsall game as we don't play for ten days.

"We've also got a situation where we lose the vast majority of our loan players, so we will have decisions to make. We have a paper thin squad so we face a number of challenges and definitely have to address it.

"In terms of finance as I've said we wil have to wheel and deal, there is no 'transfer kitty' as such so we have to be creative and we're trying to do that."

Reading the other Article this morning there Is an admission that there are too many loan players and a desire to make permanent deals .

Lets see If It's addressed through January ,and not just 6-12 month deals .

6-12 Month deals always give me the impression we are unsure of the player and just taking a punt.
Effectively not doing our groundwork before buying or perhaps we are buying with injury worries.

I would have thought that if you are happy with the 1 year deal that a 2nd year cost is also okay as it prevents a wage negotiation.
Longer commitment by player and club gives them a sense of belonging to the club and maybe give them a little more passion for it.

Agreed Stu,I don't get this paper thin squad argument either .

At least 4 of the permanents have been failures and will have sucked a minimum £250K out of the club at this point or £500K over the

season should we be unable to shift them by the end of the month.

with the short deals there's also the problem that if they come in and do well they will often get a better offer elsewhere. of course the flip side is ending up stuck with players for years who aren't up to the job but maybe if the recruitment was better the % of signings that applied to would be a lot lower.
