Hope he stays, but if someone comes in offering silly money then he will go. We dont have a pot to piss in and until we get some investment or taken over this is our lot.
I would'nt be too harsh on king if he went. He's 30 and one last payday...well i would'nt blame him for that.

I am fed up of hearing all this chat about Marlon signing a contract because the money isn't right. let's face it, he earns more in two to three weeks than most of us do in a year. boohoo sorry that £10,000 A WEEK is not enough for a rehabilitated ex con. he is lucky that he is still able to do the job. Marlon says that he has to choose between his head and his heart in a toss up between a job that pays £10000 a week where he is settled and enjoys working for his employers and another job that pays £20000 a week where he is new to the club and their style of play and their fans.
The simple fact is he has unfinished business at CCFC and he says it himself that at full fitness and with no suspensions he could still get 20 goals for the club next season.
To sum up, I am sure that finances are not an issue in Marlon Kings life and if he does move on just for more money my opinion of this greedy bastard will change.

Not in a position to gamble with our finances ...... certainly wouldnt fit with the profile of our owners either

He will have been offered a contract that reflects his ability and our desire to keep him.... but within our ability to pay for it.... if that isnt good enough thats that.

Every player is replaceable and I dont think we should make a special case of King to that extent. Of course I want to keep him but not at any cost or at the future cost of the clubs well being

The high wage earners being off loaded Mckindoe and Carsley will fund extra for King. They will not need replacing with big wage earners as McKindoe isn't really part of the 1st team and Carsley has been surplus since the new formation that we are playing. We also have Deegan coming back to fitness who can play in the middle. Probably worth off loading Eastwood (even though I a rated him) to free up some wages as he seems to have given up.Top goal scorers are worth the extra money, lets face it without King we may well have gone down last season.

Unknown future?? If he is on £10,000 a week then that's over half a million yearly salary this before tax. I think most of us could make that go a fair way in retirement.

Bamalamafizzfazz - The money that MK seems to be seeking is the going rate for a player of his quality; I don't agree with the crazy pay rates in football today, but that's how it is. It will stay like that until Sky and others pull the plug or a few 'big' clubs go under.

I completely agree but I think in the case of Marlon King his past will always be a factor and at City his past is behind him.
All I am saying is that the money we are offering should be and is enough and so what if he can get more somewhere else we took the risk in the first place when nobody else did (despite his agent clearly trying to find him a premiership club), we owe Marlon nothing but he has not yet completed what he came to do.

Just a query how do we know he is on £10k pw before tax ? All just guess work and in the greater scheme of the football world madness not that expensive...... not saying i agree with it but I reckon even for an ex con with his ability thats probably cheap.

We owe him nothing and he owes us nothing. contract for services freely offered and freely accepted for a finite period of time based on all the factors including his record (ie discounted to reflect risk).

There is no loyalty in football ..... sooner people accept that the better........ and what would anyone else do if offered more money to do the same thing that you love elsewhere.... be honest 99.9% of people would take the cash

My personnal oppinion is that I was always against the signing in the first place, however he does add that bit of quality to the team and it would be in the clubs best interests to keep him. If he goes to a prem side so be it I wish him well. If he goes to another championship side then I see it as a kick in the teeth to all our club and fans who have supported him this season and given him the chance to ressurect his career. If he goes to leicester then he is just the greedy selfish C**t that I always expected him to be.

Most of us don't already enjoy a lavish footballer's lifestyle having grown accustomed to such wealth and the inevitably large outgoings that go with it.

That is a fair point but after being out of the game for the best part of two years was he up to playing standard when he signed? Then the fact that he was suspended for 7 games when he was eventually match fit. For me although he may have made a contribution to us staying up at tje tail end of the season it has still not been an amazing season for him and a few goals at the end of the season does not make up for being missing for the majority of it. The club is to blame regarding the contract length, McSheffrey and Platt had extension clauses in their contracts so why didn't King? Unless he never intended on staying for another year no matter what.

my dad and i were talking about this the last time i went to my parents, we thought the best contract would be incentivised.

10k / week basic
Big goal bonus. maybe 2k a goal? (1 goal a game = 92k excluding cups)
Big bonus of 250k if we reach the playoffs
Big bonus of 500k if we get promoted.

So if he scored every game and got us auto promoted he's just earned himself 20k a week.

but really people complaining about him earning more than 10k are just being silly, you cant compare their career with our own, do you moan about music artists / actors etc too? you had the choice to go in to the entertainment industry too

I am not complaining about how much they earn just they should appreciate what they have in comparison to others for what they do and not be greedy. We would all take a pay rise but all I am saying is he does not deserve a pay rise based on his performance over the last year.

Regarding incentivised pay, I think a massive bonus would be appropriate if he reached a certain goal mark ie, 20-30 goals followed by a bonus if we were to get promoted but just offering a per goal bonus means he could score 15 and get us nowhere near the playofs with the club spending this extra money for no reason. Either way from what I have heard this week I don't think he will be a City player come August

Hello guys,
Lets not forget that its market forces that determine the wages that footballers earn, Marlon king is just a commodity on this financially Bloated roundabout, How do you put a value on a players head, and how much is Marlon king worth?

Well if Marlons goals, got us into the playoffs or better, his worth would be priceless to this football club, and the returns gained would be more than the outlay of wages for this High quality player.

sometimes a big decision needs to be taken by Club directors, if it is serious about its ambition, Marlon KIng is of the Quality, to make the difference between success or failure and I believe vital in securing a genuine promotion push.

I have to hold my hand up and say I Didn't want him here, but after seeing him play I think his presence on the field of play is awesome, clearly a league above the Championship, and is easily, in my opinion the Best Foreward, to play at the Ricoh last season
Particulary, that deft first touch, speed of thought, and that fantastic engine.
" marlon king owes us nothing.....But could gain us so much"

I agree Tankie, I too thought he looked a cut above championship level. It was always going to be a catch 22 with Marlon. If he played awful all those who doubted the move would be saying what a waste of money etc, yet if he played well he was always going to attract attention from bigger clubs who could offer more money. Either way I could see him leaving after the year unless we got promoted.

Lets hope he does stay as I genuinely belive with all our key players fit and available we have a chance at pushing for the playoffs. This year we lacked depth in the squad so a couple new additions would be nice during the summer.
