Martin Cranie - Your thoughts (2 Viewers)

Hi there, Leeds fan here, we have got Martin Cranie on trial for a couple of weeks; I've not seen that much of him over the years, and I'm not sure what his strentghs and weaknesses are, he's on a free transfer and covers quite a few positions, so he sounds like he could be handy, what do you guys think, is he a decent signing for a team looking to get promotion this season? What are his strengths and weaknesses and how do you rate him compared to Keogh? Cheers.

He was prone to switching off sometimes and making mistakes.

I think he has a better footballing brain than Keogh, Keogh would be out of position and need to make a last ditch tackle which looked good whereas Cranie read the game a bit better so didn't need to make the last ditch tackle.

He's a very calm defender with good technique, shows he has the quality that got him England U21 caps. Good passer of the ball and a decent tackler, but can struggle a bit in the air.
In my opinion he is a much better Centre Back than Richard Keogh. Keogh is more of a blood and thunder, last ditch tackle kind of player that fans love whereas Cranie does his job well and with minimal effort.

One of our most underrated players in the last few years. Steady-Eddie player who reads the game very well to the point of sometimes looking like he is having a bit of a stroll.
Big loss to us...but was never going to sign a new contract with us in Lg1. Would be a great signing for ANY Championship club.

Would be a very good signing on a free, I preffered keogh for the true passion he showed on the pitch, cranie is versatile and is understated but consistant. As stated above, you could do a lot worse

Assured defender who is best at centre back, but can fill in at right back (and has played at left back and defensive midfield if needs be). Fairly comfortable in possession, happy to stroll out and find a simple pass, can do a job in the tackle, although not the most imposing in the air. Given his age and the fact he gives cover across the back line if needed, a good signing for any Championship club. I would guess that your fans will take to him well enough if he signs for you.

Very good signing I think, something it looks like Leeds need at the moment with Snodgrass and Mccormack leaving.

In my opinion didn't perform as well at Keogh last season, but has more ability than Keogh and probably is a better player.

he's obsessed with "the fast show" and walks around saying "suits you sir" all the time. He also has an unhealthy obsession with Bacon Wheat Chrunchies and cant go a day without have 4 packets of them.

He's main problem is that he lives with his parents, and they take 99% of his wages, allowing him "expenses" which often dont cover his travel, so sometimes has to cycle to games.

He has 2 goldfish called "oggy" and "shawsy", and a dog called sisu"

Apart from that, hes ok.

Much better defender than Keogh, comfortable on the ball, reads the game very well and rarely has bad games. Very consistent player. As free transfers go, he's one Of the better ones in the football league.

He is not good enough for the championship!

He gets beaten far too easily at CB. Drifts out of games and switches off at crucial times.

Also allows his marker to beat him and then stands with his hands on his hips looking around at others.

Seems to give up when the going gets tough. Was also a major reason we got relegated last year.

Says it all he was a mainstay in our defence that was well and truly beaten last year and was a regular in a failure of a team.

Wish him all the best, but very over rated.

I think he can certainly do a job in the Championship. We were shit last season, but he was easily a more dependable first team player. Not as good as Keogh, comfortable centre half.

More of a footballing centre back than most. Average in the air which is why he's been pushed out to full back so often, quick-ish unlike many Championship centre backs.

His main strength is how tightly he marks players and the timing of his tackling is excellent always.
