Martin Cranie could be on his way to Middlesbrough.

Wow, the bloke just loves underachieving doesn't he... Pompey in Admin in Premier League, us getting relegated and a team that should have gone up by now failing the majority of the time...

I suppose Championship obscurity is better than League 1. He and Keogh might be the only players we get money for.

Isn't Cranie out of contract at the end of the season?

Can see a similar scenario to last year. Clingan and Cranie won't re-sign and won't be replaced. Keogh will probably go for a fee to cover the drop in revenue. Isn't Platt out of contract as well?

Past that I guess it will depend who we get offers for but you can imagine a couple of the kids going. Could be a very small and inexperianced squad next year, even compare to what we've had to put up with this year.

Can see the likes of Sheffers and Bell struggling with the type of football we'll see in League 1 and with Nimely and Norwood going back as well I can see it being another long hard season next year if SISU don't let someone else have a shot.

I like Crainie and when playing well he reads the game well. I do think over the last 10 or so games he has had a dip in form and made some mistakes but that happens to any player. I do not think he will stay, surely can be better paid elsewhere and I cant blame him for maximising his income - same with Clingan

I know it's not gospel, but on Football Manager, Cranie is on £8,000 p/w. Surely that can be re-invested somewhere on a couple of new players who will really show their worth next season?

I will be very sad to see him leave, but that's a lot of money for a defender in League One!

Irrelevant where he ends up - it won't be with us. The guy is far too good for L1, so we should simply be magnanimous and say thanks very much and move on. I guess we all have to disect his performances, class him as useless and make him a villain from now until eternity - it's the City way.

Anybody that does'nt want to stay should be allowed to leave. I only want people at the club that want to play for the shirt and want to be part of our rebuilding exercise. It takes a bigger man to contribute to this rather than somebody who takes the easy option. Obviously financials play a big part but Cranie could give another year to the cause when we he is only 25.

It's up to him and obviously CCFC to tempt him to stay. I won't hold anything against him.

bearing in mind this team wasn't good enough to stay up (allegedly) I can't see how there can be many sales this summer surely :D

8K p/w is only a lot at this level if you're Coventry.

Anyone else heard the Keogh to Derby rumour?

Wood/Mcpake are adequate replacements for him if they can keep fit and should dominate league 1 ST, he will be a loss but is not an integral part of our team.

cov mad also said hreidasson to leeds

What and him miss his fifty game bonus. To be at his age playing the amount of games he has, its been a worthwhile signing for us and i would be sad to see such a Sky Blue veteran leave. ;)

can nt believe people rate keogh above cranie. cranie reads the game and backs up all the wild rash charges / tackles that keogh makes. keogh is all action
diving in, cranie is calm and steps in when needed. i like keogh as he never gives in or stops working but i d rather have crainie any day.

i'd rate them both as good championship players with a solid future in football,
as for sisu, they would squeak at paying an appropriate amount to retain them,
CCFC will falter whilst these owners are here,
as always,

I like Cranie and he has both good technique and composure for an English defender. But he's no way near as effective as Keogh. He's too weak in the air, very slow, is guilty of lapses of concentration and making mistakes. When you look back at all our goals conceded, he is often 5 yards off his man. That or he's deflected the ball in himself..

Now I like him, don't get me wrong, he's easily our 2nd best centre-back: this isn't a bitter "he's leaving, so he's crap now" post: I'd just take Keogh over him any day.

I like Martin Crainie....but he really pissed me off a few weeks ago with his public statement of 'I'll sign a new contract if we stay up' comment.

FFS that shows how much 'the lads are sticking together'....and don't even start me on Clingan!!!

What's the betting Murphy looks at the Championship relegation betting for next year and joins the favourites to go down??!

No, mate, that is gospel then.....

On a serious note, however, that may not be far off the mark as that may be the first team average...the new contracts signed by Bell and Baker were £8k a week....whether there is a clause in these contracts based on relegation I'm not sure, but there must be, surely....?????!!!

I very much doubt they are on 8K p/w! They were talking about that being the most they could offer our star men, so I don't think the same deal would have been offered to our weakest players. Baker was a bargain basement signing and came from Stockport, he'll be more like 4k p/w I reckon. Bell maybe 5-6k.

It's the way at all clubs. I read posts from United fans saying they were better off without Ronaldo when he left.

Believe me...Baker's new deal was £8k a week...from a very reliable source connected to other players at the club.

You don't think Keogh os equally guilty of these same mistakes? I would take Craine any day over Keogh. Good job football isn't about opinions eh! :) PUSB
