DJ Campbell has been arrested today for match fixing.
In the papers yesterday, San Sodje was boasting that he has a network of players happy to take £70k for fixing.
I am absolutely not accusing any Coventry player of involvement - There is no evidence of it taking place. However there were a couple of incidents during a recent game where a player made such bizarre errors that the thought had crossed my mind at the time - before I knew of this latest scandal. I hope the Sky Blues are not involved at all.
I strongly advise anyone responding to this chain to avoid mentioning specific incidents or players.
When it is a throw in or a booking it isn't really as bad as throwing a game or even a goal.
Is it much different to players who get booked on purpose so they can miss a certain game rather than a big game through suspension?
Fraud is fraud though Nick. And once they have started where do they end it? And also the ones paying them have their claws in them. 'Throw the next game or the authorities will find out what you have been up to'
This isn't really match-fixing in the much wider sense like Calciopoli in 2006. This is some dickheads getting yellow cards for a few quid.
I think it might have been Matt Le Tissier owned up to doing that, although it seemed to be laughed off in a 'what is he like?' kind of way.
I won't mention Campbell or Sodje then
while i hear what you are saying, most of the incidents are around bookings etc
remember when grobbellaar was allegedly paid for throwing a game against us - and we still couldnt beat them
Not sure if you are being serious or not. Clearly stating a fact is not an issue, but conjecture on Cov players could turn out to be expensive.

You really are naive! What if they score from the throw in? The player is scared of a second booking? The player gets a second booking?
Get a grip Nick! It is cheating, cheating the fans of that club! While they pocket the profit!
Oh I agree it is still against the rules.
Nick it doesn't matter where you said it on the thread. You cannot have a sub text going on in the professional game for individuals back pockets.
It makes the game a sham....it makes betting a sham...no winners except the crooks who do it.

It makes the game a sham....it makes betting a sham...no winners except the crooks who do it. It would also, quite rightly, bring into doubt all the legitimate stuff that happened.
Some of the bookings we have been given this season have just not been bookings in the slightest thanks to referee error.
Make of that what you will.

Now there's a thing...Refs being involved in spot-fixing would be very attractive to the "fixers". Success guaranteed really - player x sent off in the 21st minute etc.
Real football for real fans becomes ever more a joke then doesn't it?
Nick, that is your exact quote on page 1....stand by "it isn't really as bad as"....but they are still doing it for money through illegal betting.
Well lets take the last two yellow cards Callum Wilson received (MK Dons) and (Bradford) the Bradford one was just pathetic and the MK Dons booking he went for the ball and didn't even catch the player so how can have of these decisions be yellows? I am not going to go as far out and say referees are getting paid for making these bookings, but there have been some howlers this season and if the players are under scrutiny then these crime folk should look at the rest of the personel involved with the sport.
Yes but where did I say it wasn't bad? Stop trying to read things that aren't there.

Where did you say it was?
