COVENTRY City put on an impressive performance but it wasn’t enough as Stephen Dobbie’s second-half strike was enough to give play-off hopefuls Swansea City all three points at the Ricoh Arena on Tuesday night.

The hosts can feel a little hard done by after dominating play for long periods but Swansea goalkeeper Dorus De Vries was the one thorn in most of Coventry’s attacks with a series of fine saves throughout the evening.

Aidy Boothroyd made just one change to the side that ended a run of ten games without a win at home to Crystal Palace last weekend, recalling David Bell in place of Clive Platt, with Lukas Jutkiewicz partnering Marlon King in attack.

Swansea have developed a reputation under Brendan Rodgers as a good footballing side and they showed signs of that in the opening stages, but both Craig Beattie and Scott Sinclair failed to trouble Keiren Westwood.

Ashley Williams fired over from a corner for the visitors before Aron Gunnarsson broke forward into the Swansea penalty but his fierce effort on the half-volley was fired straight at De Vries.

Gunnarsson's effort gave Coventry the momentum. A dangerous free-kick by Bell caused panic in the Swansea penalty but Gunnarsson failed to get a touch and Marlon King came close in the 27th minute with a left-footed drive which sailed over the bar.

Winger Bell has a reputation of scoring wonder goals and he came close with a right-footed drive which was tipped over by De Vries and Icelandic international Gunnarsson headed just over from the resulting corner as the score remained level at half-time.
Boothoyd’s side enjoyed a good spell of pressure after the re-start and were unlucky not to have been given a penalty when Carl Baker looked to have been bundled over by De Vries, but to everybody’s disbelief the referee waved play on.

King was next to try and break the deadlock for the Sky Blues with a well crafted free-kick from 20-yards out, but again he was denied by the in-form De Vries.

Jutkiewicz and Carl Baker both failed to find a way past the outstanding Swansea keeper before the visitors almost took the lead on three occasions in the 74th minute when substitutes Stephen Dobbie and Luke Moore struck the Coventry woodwork three times in quick succesion.

However Swansea did manage to take the lead just two minutes later. Dobie managed to get on the end of a Nathan Dyer pass and he scooped the ball over the helpless Westwood into the bottom right-hand corner.
It was a bitter pill for the Sky Blues to swallow after dominating for most of the match and now they will be hoping Lady Luck shines on them when they travel to Leicester for the M69 derby on Saturday.
