Ipswich Town v Coventry City -Portman Road
K.O Saturday, 2 October 2010 3:00pm
Match Referee Rob Shoebridge from Derbyshire
Coventry City
Coventry travel to Portman Road on Saturday in the knowledge they have a woeful record in Suffolk. The last time Coventry City won at Ipswich was way back in 1994 when Peter Ndlovu and Sean Flynn scored for the Sky Blues to secure victory. In the last eight games played between the two teams at Portman Road, Coventry have emerged with just two points from two draws and have lost the other six games, so for Aidy Boothroyd's boys to return home with any points on Saturday will be an achievement. Danny Ward has been sent back to Bolton for a operation and could be out for 7 weeks and Marlon King may not be risked against Ipswich.
However, let us not write off any chance Coventry City have at Ipswich. City had an equally poor record at Bristol City's Ashton Gate until a few weeks ago, but returned home with three points and confidence boosted.
Ipswich
Ipswich currently sit in fifth place just three points ahead of Coventry.
Ipswich have proved to be difficult to beat at home so far this season. They have lost just the once and that was a heavy 3-0 defeat to the Championship pace setters QPR.
i can't see us getting anything. but then again we have surprised a few times this year already.
i would like to see;
westwood
keough wood turner cranie
mcsheffery doyle clingan ward
king platt
2-1 loss though i'm afraid
Hope we can get a draw at least. With King and Ward out on top of our injury list options for first team aren't vast.
Westie
Keough Wood Turner Cranie
McShefferery Doyle Gunnerson Baker
Juke Plattini
If we can get 1 point out of the next 2 games I'd consider that an achievement, anything more is a bonus! Hopefully the the Sky Blues can surprise me
However I know for a fact about 90% of our fans will not accept 1 point from the next 2 games and when we drop a few places in the table the doom mongers will be out in full force with the 'Aidy Out' cries.
Now Danny Ward has an injury and has gone back to Bolton for Hernia Op! why are we having so many injuries? there is seriously something wrong with the training!
The long suffering and realistic Coventry fan in me says that going by the last few years we would be lucky to get a single point out of the next two games.
However, if we are making the progress that Boothroyd and the players are constantly reiterating then, i would expect no less than 4 points from the two games. Cardiff are not the team they were last year, and i see Ipswich as a mid table side come the end of the season.
Just got back from the match couldn't be happier with the result well deserved dominated first half should have been 2-0 up they came out well but penalty was useful disappointed we conceded so soon after but all round a great defensive display best iv seen us play in a while
Just seen the highlights, someone should make a video montage of "non-goals" for fifa's next general meeting, it was a good foot over the line! First goal was nicely worked and the penalty was one of those that are sometimes given and sometimes not. But our defenders looked half asleep for their goal.
Managed to print screen this from the football league show from BBC i-player showing Jutkiewicz's 'goal' did go in despite the twat on the League show saying it definatly wasn't in.. Sorry the ball looks blurry, it's the best I could do The ball is on it's way down there from the crossbar and you can see where it lands the whole ball is over the line. It was a hard shot to call from the ref because it bounces down like lightning but you'd think the football league show could at least get it right, Leicester wankers!!! Too busy bigging up Leicester while they are in the bottom 3.
As i said earlier in the thread, an old sky blue team wouldn't have held on for the win yesterday, i take a lot of heart from that victory. Another good performance on tuesday would possibly, JUST POSSIBLY, install a little optimism in me!
so on the football league show they said it wasn't a goal?!?! Even from the blurry web highlights you can see its well over the line, the bbc doesn't have a clue!
