COVENTRY City today swooped to sign midfielder Michael McIndoe having agreed an undisclosed fee with Championship rivals Bristol City.

The 29-year-old agreed terms yesterday and signed a two-year contract today after undergoing a medical.

City boss Chris Coleman has been trailing the former Wolves and Barnsley player for several weeks, and was keen to bring him into the squad before the season starts this Sunday.

McIndoe played 90 league appearances for the Robins in two highly successful seasons for Gary Johnson's side and was man of the match when the Sky Blues fell to a 3-0 home defeat against Bristol a year ago.

A delighted Coleman said: "This is a very good signing for us. Michael has proved himself right at the top of the Championship and is just the type of player we have been looking for.

"He will give us natural width down the left side - something we have needed for some time- is very good at running at defences and is also excellent in front of goal, as we know from last season when he scored against us at the Ricoh!

"I have said all along that we want players who we know can take us to the next level, and Michael fits firmly into that bracket. He was recently on the verge of moving to Sheffield United, but are delighted he has opted to join us.

"There is no way we were going to rush into signings just for the sake of bringing people into the club. I know that has been frustrating but Michael is someone we have targeted and while we have had to be patient to bring him in, I am certain he will be a key player for us.

"He is a fierce competitor and both he and Sammy Clingan bring the sort of quality and experience we have been looking to add to the squad. They have both been mainstays of their previous clubs and that is just what we want them to be for us.

"I am still looking to strengthen because we have been very unlucky with the injury to James McPake, and the chairman and board have been working hard to make that happen."

Well at least we have signed someone! Don't really know much about him but he sounds quite promising...thoughts?

I'm a Bristol city fan, McIndoe was my fav player for the past two years, he's an excellent left winger with a great cross, and is a great threat infornt of goal. Many of our fans say his last season was disapointing, think they forget he was played up front or in a central midfield role:confused:, a great signing for you! He's a player you can always rely on, very consistent, best of luck Macca hope you do well at the Sky Blues.

From what I've seen of him so far he's been quite impressive! Lets just hope he doesn't improve too much and become such an amazing player because that just means we'll sell him off!
