James McPake, Hibs defender on loan from Coventry
"Great relief for the club to remain in the SPL. A club of this size wouldn't survive in Division One. Now we can look forward to the Scottish Cup final.

"(Whether I stay) is up to Hibs and Coventry. We can now talk about the cup final because we've been dodging questions about it.

"I was quick to find out how big a club this is when I came here."

Hibs boss Pat Fenlon
"It's a massive relief to stay in the league and I'm delighted. We started well but so did Dunfermline.

"The scoreline is maybe a bit harsh on them. James McPake, since he's come in, has been different class.

"He's leader; we'd love to keep him but we'll see. He doesn't want to concede goals.

"Eoin Doyle was fantastic too. We want to keep winning.

"I watched Hearts yesterday and they were very good but it's about time we turned the tables in our city."

Make of it what you will.

The good news is that since I had already accepted he was gone, is that we might be able to command a fee for him. Lets hope they win the cup because a european campaign would help their finances and ability to invest.

If he can stay fit next season, he would be a really useful asset for us.

If they have the money available they will try and sign him-that much is clear. I still think that if we have him in the form he's shown for Hibs, he'll be a tremendous asset to have around-we shouldn't hand him away for cheap in any case...

Big IF though and we have other adequete options for centre half who are easy to pick up at that level even if we lose any of Cranie, Keogh and Wood. We still have Cameron, Willis, and Christie can play there too, but an experienced league one 'unit' who is cheap and reliable would free the budget for elsewhere in the team.

I don't know why but I suddenly desperately want him to stay now.

Agree his fitness is a big question mark Rob-though I'd rather McPake than Wood as things stand.

Think these two are who AT was making reference to in his article yesterday ,no passengers !!!!

It is clear he would rather be elsewhere than with us, this will not go down well with Thorn given his comments about if anybody who is not up for the fight they can leave and for that reason I think it is likely he will leave.

It is a shame as he would be awesome in league 1 imo if he could stay fit.

I think were he forced to stay with us he'd be professional about it, but we probably wouldn't get the best out of him. Scotland's where he wants to be and if that's the main reason for his resurgence in form then we're probably better off letting him stay up there. O'Connor in return please!

Top defender I was hoping we would get him back but does not look likely. We should definitely not let him go for free though and I don't think hibs have any money. Come on celtic 500 k surely!!!!!

Thats is another one on my list then. in that case we will need 9 new signings!!!!!!!!!

Yea I don't have any doubt that he would still give us his all in the games if he returned as that is the sort of the player he is

He can go. Can't afford to have long term injuries next season and people on the wage bill who are not playing. Let him, wood and Eastwood leave. That would free up money for about 5 signings as they are in big money

As Rob said, if Hibs win the Cup that will give them a little more to play with in the transfer market. What I think Fenlon doesn't realise though is that plenty of other SPL sides have taken note and will also be interested.

the thing is the 7 of their 8 signings were freebies, and they only paid a fee for Eion Doyle who has come from the Irish league - i doubt very much that they will have £500k to sign McPake, they probably need all the cash they have to reduce loses,

Who knows how much we actually want for him-we need the cash which is well known, combine that with him entering the last year of his contract and I doubt we'd get £500k on the table anyway.

So many people, myself included, complained about how many games Ben Turner and James McPake missed while out injured for us. Turner has played 37 games since moving to Cardiff and the only game McPake has missed was, I believe, a suspension. Serious questions need to be asked about fitness issues within the City camp. Why do so many of our players miss so many games and why do we run out of steam after the hour mark in many games?

City cannot afford him thats why he was loaned out, now our income has dropped even further i expect him gone soon. Same as ROD.

£ is not there for him!
