People being treated equally has more to do with Democracy than Human Rights. You can treat people equally bad. The ECHR works as a counterbalance to Utilitariainism which to be honest Labour and the Conservatives struggle with understanding.

This is why I worry about Local Democracy. I don't think Lucas has a clue what she's getting into with the WMCA.

I didn't say it didn't have its flaws sbk. This might sound a bit basic but in the eu out the eu, with human rights or without human rights, there will always be good people and bad people. Regardless of sex, race, religion, sexual orientation etc. It's the way the world is and always has been. At the present time there appears to be a media campaign to divide people on all sorts of issues. Why? What is it they say about divide and conquer? I'm not saying in or out but I will say as a nation, as a continent, as a world and most importantly as humans we are stronger together.

Human rights and freedom of speech aint worth a wank nowadays. Try putting up a "Cross of St. George" outside of your house. I'll give you 30 minutes before you've got the Police banging on your door telling you to take it down. Having the "Welsh Dragon in Wales, or the Saltire in Scotland flying proudly outside your home wouldn't get a second look from the Police. England is the only Country in the World too scared to show it's patriotism. and that's a fact!

Are we forgetting that Britain had an empire? How exactly was that acquired? Through fair means? Are we forgetting the iraq war? You know the war we went to where british and American lives were lost. Where innocent lives were lost. For iraq had weapons of mass destruction that have still not been found. Has it not been noticeable that mainstream medias coverage of the migrant crisis has gone quiet with the referendum approaching and the current pm wanting to remain. I don't think the eu should have the final say on our laws but at the same time I don't trust our politicians anymore. Think banking crisis and no one being held to account. Think expenses scandal and apart from paying it back, no one held to account. Think mps pay rises compared to that of nurses. Think the attack on junior doctors who do a sterling job.

Big difference between being angry and passionate mate. How exactly was the "Roman Empire" aquired? Or the "Ottaman Empire" You drone on about the the "Weapons of mass destruction". You haven't said f**k all the Saddam Hussien "Mass Graves of his countrymen" which he put to death! The mass Genocide of the Kurds by him either totalling nearly 1.5m. Angry people swear which you do a lot of. I thoroughly believe saddam hussein had to go but why lie about the reason? Why send people to a war on false claims? Why not say this man is pure evil and for the good of iraq and the good of the world we need to get rid of him. I know a man that lost a son in the iraq war. I know the pain he goes through daily. You haven't covered during or after the war? I have agreed he was pure evil. I have agreed he had to be toppled. My point is we were told we were going to war on him having weapons of mass destruction to which none were found. Now it is possible he disposed of them. It is also possible there was an ulterior motive for the war. I was responding to Eastwoods dustmans opinion that we are held in high regard. Whilst I agree in some aspects. I'm not going to gloss over where as a country we have not done what we should have. We have reluctantly and belatedly got involved in assads attack on his own people. Why?

The world with saddam Hussien ruling over Iraq ,the world without Saddam Hussien ruling
over Iraq , which is safer .Hmm
Surely no one believes we went in because he was evil, it's all about the oil and corporate
contracts , all we managed to do was destabilise further an already volatile situation.
Never see us heading off to Africa to fight against oppression and barbaric regimes, no the
world stands by and watches a genocide of 3 -5 million people in Rwanda.
The world should hang it's head in shame.

selling arms to both of them. Not to mention Isreal and Syria and Libya.

That's all well and good but what mandate did we go to war on?

Nobody is going to claim Saddam or any of the other middle east leaders are saints but if you think we went in for anything other than oil you're kidding yourself.

The problem we have is we assume our way of doing things is the best and try and impose that on others. But we don't have a long term plan and don't follow things through. We put people into power, or at least support them, train their soldiers, arm them etc, and then when it goes wrong we start bombing them and create a power vacuum.

Why is it down to us to sort everything? How many countries helped us in the Falklands or against the IRA?
