€10m may well be a ‘fair valuation’ but it’s unlikely to be our valuation. I’m pretty sure MVE had the opportunity to go to PSV and possibly even Ajax last season so I just can’t see what would’ve changed for him after last season. Most of it, if not all is click bait rubbish.
The72 has the headline "Coventry City set €10m asking price as European trio eye key player"
They go on to say this:
According to ESPN, Coventry City star van Ewijk is being eyed by Eredivisie trio PSV, Ajax and Feyenoord.
ESPN’s report doesn’t mention a specific stance Coventry City have taken amid high-profile interest in van Ewijk. However, sales of key men last summer indicate how they could react to the interest.
As such, if those keen are able to conjure up enough money to prise van Ewijk away from Coventry City, a deal may come to fruition. €10m seems like a fair valuation of a player on the up and with plenty of time left on his contract.
Coventry City set €10m asking price as European trio eye key player
Coventry City right-back Milan van Ewijk is a target for Dutch giants PSV, Ajax and Feyenoord, according to a report from ESPN.the72.co.uk
Nah, you must be if you think there's any way we sell them without there being a massive bid for them.and what if Sheaf or MVE do their ACL this season and we can't sell them.
You are on cloud cuckoo land.
so you think if Sheaf did his ACL, had one year on his contract a team would bid massive for him?Nah, you must be if you think there's any way we sell them without there being a massive bid for them.
Some pessimistic people on here .The odds of our team getting 1 let alone him getting 1 are very very low. We'll take our chances against that happening and go for big money next year IF he wants to goso you think if Sheaf did his ACL, had one year on his contract a team would bid massive for him?
Going to need an absolutely astronomical fee for this to happen, given that if he went we have no other proper option to play there, let alone anyone of a similar calibre.
so you think we are just going to sell players if we don't think the deal is good enough for us?so you think if Sheaf did his ACL, had one year on his contract a team would bid massive for him?
Where have I said that?so you think we are just going to sell players if we don't think the deal is good enough for us?
ok then
But it makes no sense to accept anything less than a massive bid, certainly not because of an injury that likely would never happen,Where have I said that?
I'm saying that we cant spend Sheaf money we haven't got yet on the premise hes gonna go next year. Something could happen such as an ACL that would significantly impact his value.
You're totally missing the point David. But it makes no sense to accept anything less than a massive bid, certainly not because of an injury that likely would never happen,
Ergo we only sell Sheaf if we get a massive bid.
Its arguably a calculated risk worth taking though given how the squad is taking shape ahead of the new season. There are a number of players in the squad now with market values of £10M plus that we can offload next summer if we needed to. They're not all going to do their ACLs I wouldn't have thought. You're totally missing the point David.
If the club spend money this summer on the basis "We can sell Sheaf next summer for £15m" like Blueskiesforever suggested, and then Sheaf gets injured and is out for the majority of thsi season and the start of the next, then its very unlikely that a team would bid what we had earmarked for him. It doesn't make sense to spend what we dont have.
The club will spend money and some of it will be budgeted against future income. You're totally missing the point David.

We have seen the exact same situation for COH. The fact that Sheaf has had injury issues will also increase the chances. The club will spend money and some of it will be budgeted against future income.
Injuries won't factor as you can't run a business based on the slim chance of something happening.
yeah, still isn't going to stop them if they think it is in the clubs best interest. We have seen the exact same situation for COH. The fact that Sheaf has had injury issues will also increase the chances.
Well it stopped Burnley going for COH so it certainly would stop themyeah, still isn't going to stop them if they think it is in the clubs best interest.
i was talking about it not stopping CCFC spending money if they think it's in the clubs best interest.Well it stopped Burnley going for COH so it certainly would stop them
More likely to mean he’s being offered around by his agent than by us
It's unrealistic to think that is the only way a player will get sold . We are still a selling club and if an offer comes in that's seen as acceptable for a player then they will be sold . The reassuring thing is that the price will be a very good one and the fee received will be reinvested on squad development.Promotion to the Prem worth about £200M on it's own . So keep the squad that's being built together and make that happen this season. The only way someone gets sold IMHO is if someone better is lined up behind them. Seems unlikely.

Strategic selling is part of the building processThis club is building not selling. End of.
It is, but MVE’s peak value is next summer, not this one. Sheaf’s is now though unless he signs a contractStrategic selling is part of the building process
We will always be a selling clubStrategic selling is part of the building process
Exactly this.It is, but MVE’s peak value is next summer, not this one. Sheaf’s is now though unless he signs a contract
Every club is a selling club, even Man City .We will always be a selling club

I agree but people getting worried MVE is going to be sold literally days before kick-off is absurd. The club model is based on selling players for a profit. But we are being run professionally now, and you sell players when their value is at it's maximum (within contract being run down). So it's unlikely MVE is going anywhere now, barring a ridiculous bid, but likely some of our better players will leave next summer (promotion dependant).
