Went to that old Walsall ground to watch Pompey with my old man. Micky Quinn playing for Pompey. David Kelly for Walsall.
Remember the ground for the shear, 7ft drop at the back of the terrace, and for the river of piss coming out from the portakabin toilets.
Ahhh the good old days.

Just cannot understand the architect's of British modern football stadiums, we are a nostalgic nation but surely you could design a modern day nostalgic looking ground with barrel shaped roofs and no stanchions or leaky roofs. 4 different shaped stands with an impressive Main stand would be my ideal.

Look at the list of these stadiums though, many of them were completely falling apart, crumbling terraces and massively restrictive views.
Highfield road was showing its age but still in such good condition in comparison.

Exactly, why can't new stadiums be built like this instead of your new B&Q flat pack design. Goodison is another great stadium, once they move there fans are going to really miss that place after a year same as West Ham.

My favourite is about to go Goodison Park. First went there in 1966 for our fifth round cup-tie full house over 60000 good following from us about 10000. Remember sitting opposite where their large double decker stand is and that massive terrace packed to the rafters and bemused by the nuns going round the track with their upside down brollys collecting money a

Also liked the old Old Trafford new one is totally different that old Stretford End with the little stand at the back just echoed noise, first time there was a night game 1967 6400 mostly standing Georgie Best at his best in a 4-0 hammering.

Its not so much the 'off the shelf' stadia that is common place now, it's the half completed redeveloped grounds that haven't been finished for a variety of reasons that I don't like.
Grounds like St James Park Newcastle, Old Trafford Manchester, City Ground Nottingham, Elland Road Leeds spring to mind.

Yes the seats at the back of the Stretford end, wooden benches. A total throwback to another age.
the old north stand at Stamford Bridge and stand twenty meters behind the goal at Elland Road.

To be honest I don't really care that much about what the stadium is like. As long as I can see the match OK it doesn't really bother me.
Having said that I much preferred Highfield Road to the Ricoh but that may be largely because we were a much better team then.
I've seen us play at some terrible grounds like Plough Lane and the Old Den but if we won I enjoyed those games far more than seeing us lose at places like the Emirates.

Remember the old South Bank at Molineux . Massive 20,000 standing only terrace. I Remember about 500 of us being surrounded there and watching the whole game shitting myself that we'd get a kick in.
