McNulty has gone,get over it. We did some great business EARLY just as everyone asked.
So lets give last seasons team and the new lads a chance before we go into meltdown.
We had no choice with the McNulty shit,he wanted gone so it was best for us he went.
I still think a striker will be coming in,so back the manager and ffs don’t start moaning till after Christmas :emoji_fingers_crossed:

We're missing a replacement for McNulty.
We otherwise have competition for places with senior backup for each position. There is a degree of experience in the team, especially in midfield. Been a bit unlucky with niggling injuries during pre-season but that isn't by design clearly.

Yup. Having Jones and Andreu back IS strengthening.
And we cannot judge the players we have brought in until we see them in action, but Sterling, Agogo and Brown should also hopefully strengthen us too.
That's half a team right there.

I think the majority of players signed this summer are more fringe players. However, I don’t think that that is necessarily a bad thing as the players that got us promoted, I think, can do a good job this season. In games against Blackburn, Shrewsbury, Walsall and MK we played well and were the better team in all but the first match when we fielded a weakened team. I would much sooner he tweaked things than go for wholesale changes. Left back was a definite area for Improvement and that was done straight away. The change of formation is unexpected but now is the time to try out new things. The sale of McNulty is really the black cloud on the horizon I think. While there is no guarantee that he would have succeeded at a higher level, I think most of us felt that he would. His sale, which I agree is down to the player and not the club, plus the lack of goals in pre season, has dampened things down a bit. A replacement for McNulty plus positive performances against Derby and WBA will no doubt cause optimism levels to rise.

I have. We need a new striker who can score consistently at this level as a priority and it seems we are waiting until everybody else has completed their business first (My first post). Hopefully Robins will prove me wrong.
How the youngsters perform in L1 and how the other players I don't really know perform in a Cov shirt I will need to reserve judgment until I see them play.

Always makes me chuckle when my dog chases a squirrel until it runs up a tree, the dog then left just staring at the tree at the first point of squirrel contact with it, as if the squirrel has disappeared INTO the tree the second it has touched it.
I always point and try to show her, but she just focuses on that one point of contact.

Just read my first post. I only mention McNulty replacement.
Nobody knows how last years players and the new players will perform in a Coventry shirt.
The L1 players coming in might give you a feeling that we should be alright but I'm reserving judgement.

The multiple people are welcome to their 'opinion'.
Look back at the discussions from previous years and you will find we always have a discussion on leaving it too late. 'Always' means previous years not every player.
I can only give an opinion at this moment of time. If people are attending pre season matches I value there opinion but I'm not.

You are still not getting it.... It isn't about "opinion". Dates we sign people are fact, players experience in a league is fact.
You said they aren't experienced, you were giving a list of players and their experience and were asked which lack experience. You are now trying to change it to how well they will perform.
Can you link to people saying this last year, if I remember people were saying how refreshing it was to have it all done early?
If you have no idea about what you are saying and have to try and squirm, backtrack and move the goalposts because you have no idea how to back up what you say. What's the point?

Back on the original topic did McNulty & Jones play well together last season? I only saw them together in the shocker at Accrington where Jones & Nazon never looked to pass to a team mate all game so McNulty didn't run for a ball that he wasn't going to get. When I saw us play later in the season when Jones was injured McNulty never stopped making runs and looked a much better player

We got a good deal for McNulty, every footballer has a price, they met that price and we had a player who wanted to go. It would be a lot easier for Robins to just go out and sign a striker at an inflated price. We did that when we signed Kevin Kyle, or Leon McKenzie — two weak signings. The job at hand is to find the right kind of striker to suit our setup and personnel. That requires patience, not a panic buy. It is frustrating that Pompey are messing us about and I’d be tempted to up the offer to force it through because the main priority is to replace McNulty.
We plan on bringing 2-3 players in by the end of the window, this is encouraging and it’s a case of us fans being patient with the processes of a transfer.

I think the dissatisfaction is the worry coming from the Mowbray season. I agree that we’ll most likely be sorted and actually have a squad just need that one extra player.

Personally I’m fairly optimistic ahead of next season. We’ve made some good signings, this squad is better than the one relegated, Tony Andrews return will be as good as a new signing given he only appeared in a handful of games before his injury last season and there’s still plenty of time to make some more signings yet. We didn’t sign Andrews until the second week of August last season so there’s still some decent players available late doors so I’m not panicking yet on a MM replacement.
Not going to get carried away and suggest that we could be challenging for automatics all season but I’m not expecting relegation or a relegation battle. I fancy us for mid table to challenging for a playoff and frankly I think that should be enough for anyone at this moment in time.

Assuming 3-5-2 doesn't bugger us about, the defence should be as solid as last year - bearing in mind Brown and Ogogo will strengthen it. That is more than half the battle.
People might also remember that McNulty barely scored for the first half of the season, and we were still top 6

Yes you're right to be honest....as well as the 10 players already bought in during the close season,I want another eleventeen billion to add to the squad too...Robins has shown that he's blatantly not the man to take us forward due to the poor results in meaningless pre-season friendlies so far

It will be a tough season but I think we can do okay. I think Ponticelli will come of age, Allassani will improve as it goes on and Andreu is going to be really good. I will be happy if we finish 10th or 12. If we are flirting with the play offs come end of the season that would be a bonus.
So quietly confident and I hope JCH proves my reservations to be incorrect, as I believe there is potentially a good player in there.

Reminds me of a true story - we always take our dog out to the parks in Leamington and we have great fun pointing at squirrels and saying "Maddox Squirrel Squirrel!!" he is a Greyhound and never ever catches them as he generally growls right from the off and this announces his arrival thus the Squirrel scarpers up the tree and looks down thinking "Twat Dog".
We were walking through the (un-named) park last Summer on a Sunday and as we approached the kiddies area with roundabouts and swings we did our usual "Maddox Squirrel Squirrel" off he went at top speed but this time didn't growl at all - the Squirrel looked left then right then legged it to the nearest tree right in the middle of the play area.
For some reason only known to the Squirrel it got to the sanctuary of the tree then changed its mind and ran back at speed toward the dog!
All this is being watched by parents (all with arms folded) and kids (with mouths open) and in a split second our dog has this squirrel in its mouth and tosses it into the air like a Great White Shark attacking a Seal.
We are now in panic mode and retrieve the dog and my wife picks up the stunned (almost dead) squirrel and in a comedy moment offers the Squirrel to a tree saying "its ok its ok just stunned that's all" and it just slides down to the ground.
We now refer to this moment as Squirrel-Gate.
We don't say "Squirrel Squirrel" when we walk the dog any more!

I sometimes look after my friends Patterjack (Patterdale & Jack Russel cross) and he does exactly the same. Never catches one as he makes a high pitched excited squealing sound which fully alerts any wildlife nearby. Dumb fuck........
