"I think you’d have to change the shape of the team if you were to have a player like John Eustace and add another midfield player in there and play a different shape to the one we started to develop last season.
Suggests last season's 4-4-2 will be continuing then.
Have to agree with Tony Mowbray on this one, no good signing similar players to what you have at the veteren stage, at 35 Eustace is well over the hill imo. Now a couple of years ago when we had that team full of youth players, maybe but not now. I think in midfield Mowbray will be looking for more athletic box to box types and use Fleck as the steady eddie for now.
If he is playing Fleck, we need a goal scoring midfielder. Somebody who can make those runs like Lampard does where they arrive late in the box for the tap in / shot.
If we keep Reda we will need defensive midfielders as well as attacking ones. I would guess that things will move more quickly as soon as we know who Reda is going to sign for.
John Eustace is a very good player and a true professional. Their is so much to like.
But at 35 and coming back from a knee injury.....how much juice is left in those legs. Just a bit too old for the direction we need to go in. We need to be trying to get 2-3 years out of the players we bring in, unless they are loans.
Would have been nice for sentimental reasons but not footballing reasons. We would have to play 3-5-2 with eustace to play him and attacking midfielders.
