At least Fergie had won in Europe with Aberdeen, and Man Utd were not the club as they are today...

I don't think the toffees fans would be Happpy with that one ,he'd get similar resisitance to that which he's recieved from the Chelski mob.

It's looking likely that this will be the appointment. Shame really as I like Moyes! Top manager. But I dislike United!

Not sure what is worse, that match, or when O'Neil went to Villa.

A six year deal is insane really, maybe it's to force themselves to give him a decent amount of time before getting rid.

I am not too sure about Moyes, have they gone for him as they don't want somebody who will want to leave in a couple of years and will stay like Fergie did?

It probably A typical Fergie tactic; sign him up just so no one else can have them, even if try aren't first choice.

I reckon Fergie will still be involved from the background!

Not really, very sensible I'd say.

From the outset it shows to both Moyes and everyone else that they are in it for the long term and shows that they want continued stability. If he goes on to be very successful it ties him into a long contract and if he is shite, as so many on here are predicting, then they can always get rid anyway (there's ALWAYS ways in football).

Moyes has got massive boots to fill and it won't be an easy job but I think he will do well. He may not have Champions League experience but he will get it very quickly and it is not as if he is an inexperienced manager.

I would say though that it will give the chasing pack a boost next year knowing old red nose isn't there and expect some serious mind games if Mourinho does go back to Chelsea.
