No they've got a dominant market position in everything but mobile devices and unless we all stop buying products with Microsoft OS pre-installed then they'll do okay. Can't see a shift over to Linux from your average computer users, although Apple might take a larger bit out of the laptop sales.
I said if we keep buying MS preloaded products then they'll do okay. I never said that they'd just be okay and with desktop and laptop sales to consumers declining it is a concern for MS stockholders. The mistake you make is the same as MS management. Desktop and laptop are old news and once COIT takes off in business I think it will be Linux in the form of Android, Chrome an similar appliance like setups that eat into their bottom line.
Office will keep them afloat, but even that's being chipped away at.
Thinking you're unbeatable is a sure fire way to lose in tech. Just ask IBM, Palm, Dell, Nintendo, etc etc etc.
Ballmer, like Cook, doesn't have the vision for the future and is still trading off his predecessor's ideas. If you want pick a winner look at Mountain View not Cupertino.

And I've never actually bought a copy of Microsoft Office I use Libre Office and Open office.
Man. You must REALLY hate MS. Office is by far their biggest (and best) product. It's what's allowed them to plow funds into buying the living room with Xbox and continual disasters trying to copy trends too late (Surface, Kin, Zune).
Say what you like about Gates, the man was a visionary, see his talks in the future and his insistence that tablet computing was the future before the iPad was a gleam in Jobs' eye.
Aside from the quality of YouTube memes, Ballmer is a joke. See the recent Xbone PR disaster to see what pleasing corporations rather than customer gets you. See Apple Maps for an example of the future Cook sees.
Only Amazon and Google of the major software firms are gearing up.
Pitiful response.
I am merely pointing out that the OP clearly ignorant regarding marketing strategy. The term distressful is not appropriate as this is a Tier Three campaign - i.e a campaign targeted towards the local media communicating an offer. This is no more distressful than BMW offering 0% finance or Mercedes Free Servicing as a local offer through targeted media. The aim is to create awareness, build market share etc.
The move to another part of the country invariable requires a change in media tactics. Very understandable. It also does not mean that the club is increasing marketing spend. It will have a marketing budget and it will spend in various ways that budget.
It is not distessful
The Surface is sexy. It's got a stand on it! And the keyboard's got that material on the back you get in car upholstery.
I could, of course, add significantly to the marketing department at CCFC. However, as I command a six figure salary, two company cars, substantial company paid pension contributions I think I may be a little out of their league.
This kind of advertising is designed to generate awareness so that potential customers will be aware of the benefit of buying your product over a competitors. I.E. Tesco doing 5p a litre off when you spend £40.00, so JS do a similar/ better deal to steal market share. BMW doing a 0% against Audi doing free servicing etc. This is where SISU lose it in my book. Most football fans follow a club, take that club away from that fan and they are probably lost to football. I will not go and watch villa, I've turn down free tickets to go and see festa. The only way people will go back is if the club re-engage with the fans, give them something to enjoy and be part of. Putting an ad in the local rag is just folly. I'm sure the CT like the extra revenue, but how many Blaze, Bees or Cov RFC fans do you really think will be persuaded to go to sisufields? How many NOPM will this add persuade to return? So 1st 2nd or 3rd tier, ill spent cash me thinks.
Oh yeah, but their failure got me one fo' cheap, which is probably Bill Gates' greatest charitable venture.
I like to think they've got a giant hangar in Washington filled with them gathering dust, like the end of that Indiana Jones film.
