Nice to see a manager rave about a youngster coming through and then follow it through by putting him in the starting line up 1st game in when we have quality centre backs on the bench! I see what AB means now, can't believe how comfortable he looked in that game and he's only 18.
Couldn't agree more. Was great to see him given a chance and he slotted in with ease. Certainly doesn't look out of his depth. You just wonder if the likes of Cain/Walker/Wynter would have been given a proper chance under Boothroyd instead of being shown the door like under Coleman.
I always found Coleman's approach to the young guys a bit condescending. He was always going on about how they were too young and didn't need to be rushed in to the first team in case it scarred them when they conceded the 5 goals he obviously thought they would. This was 18 and 19 year olds he was talking about not pre pubescent girls.
Glad to see cameron get a run out and even better that he's getting such good reviews!
I'm sure I read somewhere that Wood & McPake still have niggling injuries...but I agree I was shocked to have been so impressed with Cameron! I think it comes from months upon months of hearing Coleman say they were too young!
Coleman didn't really like giving many people a chance and it was as if he had his favourites as the squad picked it's self week in, week out with players like Stephen Wright and Morrison. It is all about giving the young players a chance, they are our future after all!
I've said all along that injury and McPake go together,it's a shame but true.Cameron was outstanding Satuday, bit early to say he's gonna be a star but early signs are good.
Im suprised both played to be honest, ive never rated Turner, never seen anyone pump the ball long as much as he does, fair play to him though,he was good Satuday.Boothroyd seems to be getting the best out of the players.
I saw Cameron at Shrewsbury and Northampton in preseason and was impressed but thought it was only preseason. I thought it was risky at kick off time but the lad was first class, nothing flash, no risks, just defended and kept it simple. Still had the concentration in the dying minutes to make a goal saving challenge when some more recent centre halves cough*ward*cough wouldve been fast asleep.
