Anyway here’s the notes

Agenda for Meeting on the 18thApril 2024 @ the CBS at 6.00pm

1. Apologies for absence – Kevin Heffernan, Paul Armstrong (Coundon), Pat Raybould, Steve Moloney, Colin Power, Mike Garlick, Jim Brown, Darren Cowley(Southam)
Attendees – Supporters Groups– Colin Henderson (chair), Pete Griffiths (Sec / vice chair – Sky Blues Talk – Alan Ludford (Diamond Club), Lewis Wale (Proud Sky Blues), Mark and Tony (Rugby Supporters), Paul, Laura Smith (Family Zone)

2. Matters arising – There were 2 items.

Street named after former players – Colin Hendersonhas looked into how to get this off the ground and has researched information from Coventry City Council. For streets to be named it either needs to be proposed by a developer or an organisation, such as Coventry CityFootball Club. Whoever requests the street name would need the permission from the families of the players themselves. Colin has spoken to Jim Brown about the possibility of working with the Former Players Association on this.

Colin will contact the planning department at Coventry City Council to identify which major house builders are looking to build in the Coventry over the couple of years.It was confirmed this was an idea unanimously backed by those at the last Supporters forum. It is hoped that the club can be involved in this initiative in some form.

Safe standing – John Taylor – COO – Confirmed they had received feedback from supporters. The club are talking weekly with stadium owner, Safety Advisory Group and other parties. They are intending to have a trial row at the next home game. They know where we hope to go and a solution will be communicated once issues have been worked through. This will need to be decided before next years season tickets go on sale so expect something soon.

There was a wider discussion about the ‘away fans’culture of standing throughout the game and everyone is aware of this but safety, especially with large crowds, has to be paramount.

3. Equality and Diversity (EFL Mandate) – John Taylor
Safeguarding – everything in place for the club. Safe to operate and Barnardo's have done reviews of the Academy and this has all been passed. Match daysprovision for safeguarding is all in place. John talked about the Equality and Diversity EFL framework and that there are gold, silver and bronze awards. The club are aiming to achieve the bronze award within the next few weeks.

4. Club up-date by Doug King - Owner
Doug talked Training ground initially. He confirmed the infrastructure, car parking pitches etc should be completed in the next couple of months. That is part 1. The next part is to have a fit for purpose training establishment. They are in conversations with architects to provide an elite training centre and whilst this is being delivered a hybrid solution may be necessary.
He spoke of the start to each of the last 2 seasons has been a real handicap but is really hopeful that most things are in place for this not to be the case for the 2024-25 season.
He spoke of elite level performance in every aspect of the organisation. Hence bringing in John Taylor as chief operating officer and Dr Claire-Marie Roberts as performance director to look at the performance side of the club. The psychology and recovery aspects and the players are encouraged and are enjoying the difference this has, is and will make.
He said he will not comment on any transfer speculation and has asked his whole team not to. His official response is he doesn’t know what we are going to do in the summer but the club will do what they will do and follow on the successful recruitment from last summer. He is confidence we will have everything in place for the start of the season.
His aim is still to make the playoffs 3 out of 5 seasons and looking to win the playoffs to get through the door.
He referred to the 22-23 accounts and advised his goal is to look at a sustainable operating model irrespective of transfer ins and outs. The target is for within the next 2 years. He feels this would be an epic achievement. This can’t be at the expense of a competitive team, relegation is not an option.
There will be more money from TV due to the new deal but this will affect fixture days and kick off times.
Colin Henderson advised that the first 6 months of the season will be agreed at the start of the season which would aid planning. Doug King agreed that this was his understanding too.
Mark Hornby advised that UK streaming would not be possible other than through the Sky Sports app or red button – iFollow would only be for overseas fans.
Doug has been really encouraged that the operating losses have stayed the same given the player quality have costs have increased substantially.

6. Family Zone up-date – Laura Smith

Laura thanked the sponsors, fundraisers and the club and players for their time and support. Now have a gazebo and space outside the arena that’s worked well. They have over 450 children who’ve registered on the loyalty scheme although this is less than last year and they are looking at why. You do not have to be a JSB to register for the family zone.

Player cards and autograph books have been wellreceived. Youngsters will get the last of the cards at the QPR game.

They need to recruit new volunteers for next season. Already spoken to John Taylor and Jodie Jones to look at glitches that have happened during the season to review last and look forward to next.

Colin Henderson encouraged family zone information at the start of the season to communicate to all supporters’groups.

Discussion around improving the opportunities for family zone, moving it into the ground and making use of halls within the arena (subject to agreement and availability) as well or instead of outside. The club will work with the Family zone volunteers to continue to improve what’s on offer.

7. Dates for future meetings – All
Next one looking at July or August – depends on if it’s pre-season or first weeks of the season. Then looking at 3 over the year, with one of these being face to face. Club anxious to make clear that supporters groups don’t need to wait for a meeting to raise a concern or question.

8. Any Other Business
Player of the year – Presentation by Supporters clubs at the QPR home game – CCLSC & Welsh Supporters – Jodie Jones will share details tomorrow, asked for names by 1 May. Limit of 4 people per supporters’ groups to be involved.
FA Cup Semi Final ticket process – Numerous Supporters club
Ticketmaster issues – Wembley rules on leaving one ticketat the ends of rows and other strange issues that we all encountered.
CCFC were told how to release tickets for FA Cup Semi-Final – They need feedback on the system so that they can look at any issues. Most ticketing platforms are rigid.
The date of the game was an issue as the club were waiting for the date of the game to be agreed. Then working on different deadlines with different parties. All processes needed to be signed off by the FA and Wembley.
Given the allocation and that the club has 19,500 season tickets it wasn’t possible to allow 2 tickets per season ticket as had been the play off option last year. Mark Hornby felt the process was fair and that supporters who have bought tickets in previous years had the chance to buy for Wembley.
Diamond club mentioned elderly supporters struggled with purchasing tickets through Ticketmaster online. Jodie Jones advised everyone who had emailed the ticket office had received a reply and if anyone was having an issue that would be the best thing to do.
Changes to disabled ticket purchasing for the game, compared to last year, had been made following feedback from fans and had ran more smoothly for these supporters.
Following a question about whether a different ticket platform is being considered, John Taylor advised thatTicketmaster are the number one provider of tickets for events in the UK. Doug explained the club are looking to improve the agreement that they have with Ticketmaster going forward. There are also other enhancements that can be looked at with Ticketmaster.

Questions For Supporters Forum Meeting
18th April 2024

1. What is the primary reason for the closing of the A444 after the game. This is causing massive disruption to travel of tens of thousands of fans. Not just the 30,000 people attending the games but users of the Arena shopping Mall plus the general travelling public who are expecting to use one of the major roads in and out of Coventry. Can the safe passage of pedestrians across the A444 be handled in a different way? Are there any plans for an additional pedestrian bridge? (CCLSC) & CCSWSC &SBA
This was a planned second closure, first being earlier in the season. With the crowds getting bigger at the CBS Arena we are working closely with the CBS Arena Safety Team to review all options ahead of next season to ensure all supporters leave the stadium in a safe manner . We are reviewing all feedback received to date on road closures to come up with the best and safe solution.

John Taylor – Chief Operating Officer advised that they are looking primarily at the safety of supporters getting away from the ground after the game and are actively seeking feedback from all supporters as to how the closure affected them
Many in the room talked of extended times to get home and sighted roadworks in Longford that added to the traffic issues on this particular day.
John advised that they are looking at everything. He has only been in post for 3 months, one thing they are looking at is shuttle buses to get people to and from the ground. Colin Henderson raised the initial ‘green travel plan’ that the council have previously said was voided when the previous owners moved on. His opinion is that this is daft as the stadium and events are all still happening. All agreed. about the ‘green travel plan’. Further he sighted many excellent processes that have been set up at the Brighton stadium including how travelworks, links with pubs and encouragement for fans to stay around the stadium after the game

2. The Arena was built and received planning permission on the basis of a ‘sustainable’ green travel plan. The current public transport options to and from the CBS are nothing short of scandalous. What can be done working with CCC, The West Midland Major and the London Northwestern to improve the public transport options to and from the CBS going forward? (CCLSC) & LGBTQ+ members This has been raised previously and something the club is aware of and will look into with all external parties.

3. Can we please find a permanent home in the ground for large Supporters Group Flags?
What about using the big white wall under the security viewing box? (Rugby Supporters) We will raise this with the CBS Arena Operations team to see if we have any potential options. Flags are currently on the segregation either side of the away supporters as other seating areas are now in use.

4. Can we look at the queuing systems inside the ground for the toilets and concession stands again, as it is still very difficult to move around on the concourse. (Rugby Supporters) &LGBTQ+ members This will be raised with the CBS Arena operations team.

5. Could mobile drinks sellers be deployed during busy periods in high traffic areas to ease queuing times before and during the game? (Rugby Supporters) This will be raised with the CBS Arena catering team.

6. Can we look again at the area for smokers from blocks 1-4. It is currently a long walk round at half time through a crowded concourse to the smoking area. Could the original area be re-opened but move the smoking area away from the door or alternatively, allow supporters to use the main entrance area alongside the Corporate Area smokers? (Rugby Supporters) & LGBTQ+ All smoking areas will be reviewed during the close season. Reason the one in the North-West corner was moved earlier this season was to stop dispersal of smoke into the Family Zone area.

7. What can the club do about fans buying tickets for the points then selling them on? (Rugby Supporters)

Fans earns point for buying tickets. If they wish to pass tickets to family/friends, Club is not able to take action unless this is sold above face value etc.

8. Can the club consider a season ticket exchange platform which will allow season ticket holders to sell their set if they cannot attend a match? (Rugby Supporters)

This is an option the club is exploring.

9. When is the wi-fi at the CBS going to be improved? (Rugby Supporters) – We are currently reviewing all infrastructure within the stadium which have an impact on the clubs matches.

10. Does the Club/CBS Arena have a plan to invest in a new PA System at the Arena? (LGBTQ+ members & SBA) This is covered within questions 9, however, we have done some improvement work on the PA system and within some areas of the stadium there has been a small improvement. However, we understand the current frustration with the sound quality and something we are aware of.

11. Can the club switch from a mobile number to a short 5-digit number to make it easier to reportabuse/discrimination/anti-social behaviour on match days? Also, can this be printed on match tickets and season ticket cards? (LGBTQ+ Members)
12. Cannabis and cocaine use inside the stadium continues to be prevalent and users are clearly able to enter the stadium without being thoroughly searched. Is there a specific plan to combat this moving forward? (LGBTQ+ members) & CCLSC
13. After the player sales of Hamer and Gyokores and the potential income from a possible sell on fee from the latter, is Doug prepared to match any monies that we receive to put towards player transfers if we are promoted to the Premier League? (CCSWSC) & SBA
14. Do the club feel that the prices of certain lines of the clothing range are reasonable given the coat of living crisis. i.e. £100 for an adult bench coat? Can the club confirm if the sales justify the pricing? (CCSWSC)
15. Some fans are complaining that the atmosphere is not the same now the away fans have been effectively pushed into the corner of the stadium, obviously just people’s opinion but what are CCFC’s thoughts on this? (CCSWSC)
16. FA Cup Semi Final tickets allocation method. How is he -plan determined and what sign – do the various parties involved have? Could the timings of purchase be spread more evenly to prevent the chaos that happened during the first morning? The three hours’ notice was very short. I.e. Tiers of points like the away tickets sales. (CCLSC)& Diamond Club
17. Could the club sell blocks of tickets for Wembley to each approved Supporters Group to enable their members to sit together for the semi-final? (CCLSC) & Diamond Club
18. The seating plan with coloured dots was not clear, and not usually friendly. Are Ticketmaster the best company available to meet supporters needs? There was not a clear policy for those fans who need accompanying carers or have any form of disability when the SF tickets were announced. Consideration should also be given to those supporters who do not have high speed internet access, or none at all and may need to contact CCFC ticket office for assistance? Can the club address these concerns going forward for future ticketing events such as any play-off final etc? (Diamond Club) / SBA
19. Does the club receive any financial benefit from parking within the CBS footprint on match days? (CCLSC)
20. For the car parks used further out like P2 next to the Novotel run by Big Parking, do the landowners and or CCFC benefit financially from this parking?
21. Big Parking have already announced that parking fees will go up for next season, without saying how much, but we can subscribe now at the current rate (£230 or £10 / match). Does the club have any say on how much it costs to park, or what increase is applied? (CCLSC)
22. What’s the future for these bricks, since they are attached to the Frasers real estate? Is there any on-going cleaning/maintenance/repair programme for these bricks and who pays? Have the club considered a volunteer’sday to clean the bricks? (CCLSC)
23. Is there any news on season ticket prices for 2024/25and date of release? (CCLSC & SBA)
24. Is there any feedback from the trial usage of the South Stand? (SBA)
25. Reading Football Club offered their supporters the chance to have their season tickets added to their Google/Apple wallets in addition to receiving physical cards. Are the club considering this going forward. (CCLSC)
26. Can the club make it possible for JSB vouchers to be used and tickets purchased on-line for those living far away from Coventry? (SBA)

John also raised the arrangements for visiting supporters and the clubs desire to limit the amount of away fans and maximise the amount of home fans at every game. Doug King – owner advised that we can’t lose the revenue from large away followings, but we can replace the large away following with an increased home capacity as at the Leeds home game.
The club are working on reducing the segregation with John and Doug feel is way too big. The plan for the make up of the ground for next season is as per Leeds.
Question raised about keeping away fans in after the game which John advised was a police intelligence decision and for that reason happens very rarely.
Question raised about number of away tickets that have to be made available. The club didn’t seem to be certain of the EFL expectation, in the Premier league it’s 10%. Due to the make up of the arena the figure is around 2500 visiting supporters.

Digitalising the JSB vouchers is certainly doable.

As a member at Warwickshire, they moved away from the free pass tickets to a digital version last summer.

I'm guessing the cost is minimal & there is an element of control / insight.

When can we move to Apple Wallet tickets as ticketmaster managed to do it for Wembley?

Also I think amongst all the gripes we should acknowledge that club got the ticket distribution for the semi final virtually spot on ( apart from the windows being too long.) It’s sometimes appropriate to praise a job well done when everyone was an expert on how to do it.

I didn't use my mobile ticket as I'd printer one out 'just in case', were they tap in or did you have to scan the QR code? if its scanned no reason they can't be used next season. TM clearly has the functionality and the readers at the CBS work on barcodes now so you'd think it's easy to implement.

Aren't the turnstiles at the CBS NFC? Sure when we first moved there and you could buy individual match day tickets and load them onto a flex card they were just tap rather than scan.

I wonder if they kept the windows long in case there was a fuck up. 2 or 3 day windows and something goes wrong you're really up against it.

Just been watching some NHL ice hockey videos so shameless stealing a couple of things they do for season ticket holders, something maybe the club could consider

Before the final game of the season there a random draw for season ticket holders and the winners get a match worn shirt from the players. The way it works in hockey is after the game you go on the ice and get the jersey from your player. Could either have something on the pitch after the final match or in one of the corporate areas

The other suggestion is an open training session for season ticket holders. Given there's likely to be a lot of Friday night / Monday night games with the TV deal changes next year is there an opportunity for a weekend training session for season ticket holders to attend. Similar to the JSB day I guess. Sure a lot of us would be interested to see what happens at a training session

I went in the level 2 entrance which didn’t have your usual turnstiles, it just scanned the QR code out of apple wallet rather than using NFC

Question raised about number of away tickets that have to be made available. The club didn’t seem to be certain of the EFL expectation, in the Premier league it’s 10%. Due to the make up of the arena the figure is around 2500 visiting supporters.

This is in line with pricing at other Clubs with similar standard of products. Club very happy with retail sales and continuing upward trend, plus positive feedback on range and quality of products across lines. Retail prices are largely determined by the price that products are purchased at wholesale. Specifically the bench coat is selling very well.

Some fans are complaining that the atmosphere is not the same now the away fans have been effectively pushed into the corner of the stadium, obviously just people’s opinion but what are CCFC’s thoughts on this? (CCSWSC) The overall objective of this trial is to ensure we get as many home fans in the ground as possible and to reduce the away capacity to the required levels. The Leeds game was a fantastic example, a record crowd at the CBS Arena for a Coventry game and the atmosphere was electric. We have reviewed all options with the away end however, we have to take into consider the stadium infrastructure and external safety guidance. If we go ahead next season with the current location season card holders will have an opportunity if there would like to relocate closer to the away fans. The next phase is to look to reduce the segregation between Home & Away which again will help towards the overall atmosphere within the ground.

16. FA Cup Semi Final tickets allocation method. How is he -plan determined and what sign – do the various parties involved have? Could the timings of purchase be spread more evenly to prevent the chaos that happened during the first morning? The three hours’ notice was very short. I.e. Tiers of points like the away tickets sales. (CCLSC)& Diamond Club

Ticket info issues by the FA to the Club, plan decided internally for sales and sales process signed off by the FA.

17. Could the club sell blocks of tickets for Wembley to each approved Supporters Group to enable their members to sit together for the semi-final? (CCLSC) & Diamond Club
No we are not able to.

18. The seating plan with coloured dots was not clear, and not usually friendly. Are Ticketmaster the best company available to meet supporters needs? There was not a clear policy for those fans who need accompanying carers or have any form of disability when the SF tickets were announced. Consideration should also be given to those supporters who do not have high speed internet access, or none at all and may need to contact CCFC ticket office for assistance? Can the club address these concerns going forward for future ticketing events such as any play-off final etc? (Diamond Club) / SBA
Yes, they are the market leaders, no other company can handle such volume. Full information for all supporters was on our website. Fans do not need high speed internet access – ticket office was available via email. Policy of no sales in person was done to avoid queues, which caused complaints and issues for supporters and the club for previous Wembley trips. Venues around the world use TicketMaster and like ourselves these events sell-out.

19. Does the club receive any financial benefit from parking within the CBS footprint on match days? (CCLSC) – No.

20. For the car parks used further out like P2 next to the Novotel run by Big Parking, do the landowners and or CCFC benefit financially from this parking? -No, CCFC does not benefit.

21. Big Parking have already announced that parking fees will go up for next season, without saying how much, but we can subscribe now at the current rate (£230 or £10 / match). Does the club have any say on how much it costs to park, or what increase is applied? (CCLSC) – We havea good relationship with Big Parking so we will raise the above.

22. What’s the future for these bricks, since they are attached to the Frasers real estate? Is there any on-going cleaning/maintenance/repair programme for these bricks and who pays? Have the club considered a volunteer’sday to clean the bricks? (CCLSC) There are no plans for these to be removed etc. We are working with the CBS Arena to ensure these very important areas are upkept including the memorial garden.

23. Is there any news on season ticket prices for 2024/25and date of release? (CCLSC & SBA)

24. Is there any feedback from the trial usage of the South Stand? (SBA) As per above.

25. Reading Football Club offered their supporters the chance to have their season tickets added to their Google/Apple wallets in addition to receiving physical cards. Are the club considering this going forward. (CCLSC)
The club is exploring the possibility of digital ticketing. This will require upgrades to software systems as well as turnstile hardware upgrades.
26. Can the club make it possible for JSB vouchers to be used and tickets purchased on-line for those living far away from Coventry? (SBA)
The club is exploring this option.

27. Was there a reason for dropping armed services tickets? Are there any plans to re-introduce them? (SBA)
The club haven’t dropped armed services tickets and we still currently offer this. Proof must be shown in advance of receiving this discount and this is added to the fans account.

28. Any plans to change block availability and open them to all to aid supporting planning? (SBA)

Blocks opened on staggered basis to support matchday planning (e.g. stewarding plans, turnstiles plans, catering plans etc) and helps keep costs of matchdays more manageable. This was demonstrated recently when we opened the majority of blocks for the Preston match, these blocks didn’t sell-out and fans spread themselves around.

29. Are there any plans to adjust points process for away ticket allocation? Details on ticket access at each stage and points for iFollow purchases?
Club feels that the points system is working well for away games. Club does not publish details of points levels, especially as this changes each week. This is linked to ticket purchase and through Ticketmaster system, not linked to other purchases.

30. Are there any further plans to up-grades at Ryton and any plans for Cat1 academy provision.

It's a small bag of powder. Probably in a pocket or even a wallet. It's totally impossible to police that on the turnstiles.

The latest generation of scanners (the type you walk through) can supposedly detect small amounts of drugs. Not sure if the ones they use at the O2 do that but they definitely detect other things and have replaced searching everyone. You literally just walk through them without stopping and they pull anyone over that flags up. Had the same thing when I went to the ice hockey in Sweden.

The tech is there, just depends on if Frasers or the club wants to pay for it.

The drug use thing, you aren't going to get minimum wage staff to search people enough that they will find every spliff or bag of bugle.

it's not realistic, it's always been there and it is not as some would have to believe a cross between a scene from scarface and a party at pablo escobars

i'm in the corner and I have not once seen anyone openly taking coke, they do it in the cubicles and apart from once they only weed i have smelt is in the smoking area where frankly it's the least of your worries
