That's going to be awful, especially the next day after game, when fans will actually remember being at the game and it not all just being a blur.

That's going to cost them a lot of dough in advertising revenue.
The Saudis must have given FIFA a fortune.

Wonder if they'll again ask gay fans if they could please just avoid doing anything gay while out in the desert

Unpopular opinion I’m sure, but so long as it’s open to everyone, I think it’s ok if the World Cup is held in a place that doesn’t just have the same customs and hospitality that you’d get in any stadium in Western Europe.

Ignore the Islamic regime apologists, it's another stain on what will be once again a rubbish competition.

Anyone that has been to a tournament will tell you the social side of it and meeting other people in pubs and bars is a huge part of what makes the experience. They've sold their soul here again.

That said, 198 people were executed in Saudi last year. Maybe they can put on some Gladiator style entertainment for the crowds instead.

Shambolic.

Sure, it’s only a place where they chop off heads for not believing in a fictional being

Well yeah that would come under the “open to everyone” part of my post. That’s worth getting upset about - not being able to have your beverage of choice at the game isn’t really important, is it?

How about ‘gay people can come but only if they promise not to show it’?

Obviously you don’t need alcohol to have a good time and all that.

However, if you’re spending a fair whack to go to Saudi to watch the the WC you surely want the choice on whether you have a beer or not.

It’s also part of a big tournament, the social side of being with your friends/family/partner etc, and meeting fellow fans etc, won’t quite be the same if you’re restricted in what you can do.

Corruption all over the shop.

It’s bullshit. They should never have it and it’s all about the cash sports-washing a brutal regime. It’s a tournament for the world and everybody should be made welcome. If they can’t allow people to enjoy themselves they shouldn’t have it.

On the plus side it will likely be winter again meaning a nice break from regular football, the season extended in warmer times at the start and end of season and I'll probably take a holiday at a cheaper time somewhere warm that isn't Saudi with as much cheap beer as I want. Yeah I know, selfish bastard :)

Yes, plenty of places you could be served alcohol. Saudi have said no alcohol anywhere. So nothing like the last one at all.
Spot on. Some of the most pissed up people I’ve encountered were in the Red Lion. The Saudis go to Qatar to have a drink. It’s some time away so plenty of time to change but not sure if they’ll ever back down on this.

It’ll be January/February 34 or 35. Ramadan is November/December so that rules out the same period as Qatar.

Perhaps they could cut off someone's head on the pitch for some light entertainment at half-time? The point is that it's not and never was going to be open to everyone.
