It's the equivelent of the main stand at Highfield Road

I think they do sing now and then. To be fair all football grounds seem to have sections of support that sing (like we do here)

It makes me laugh that people actually sit in the CET Stand i don't think i've heard a song started in there for two seasons i remember everyone thought it would be the new West Terrace when we moved to the Ricoh, how wrong that proved out to be. ointlaugh:

I sat in the middle of the Tesco stand for the palace cup game and the view of the pitch is fantastic. It doesn't surprise me that people don't sing as they're probably concentrating completely on the game. Not me though I love the singing in the cheap seats

I sit in block 21 and I'm surrounded by older people as in 40s/50s I want to sing everygame but don't want to be sat or stood on my own while everyone else is just sitting there, it's a shame

Traditionally, I think that at most grounds there is a noisy area and quiet area. I think it stems from the history of the terraces where the working folk would go and stand compared to the middle classes that would take a nice comfortable seat near the center. That divide doesn't really exist today but comes down to preference. If the people sitting near the center don't want to sing that there's choice and I'm sure most of them are just as passionate about the club as the lot in block 15.

Same as you Regis. When I was younger it was all about getting pissed up, going up with a dozen mates, singing and taunting the away fans. Now I like to concentrate more on the game. Gives me chance to sit down for 90 mins more than anything . Lets face it the ground is half empty with people scattered all over the atmosphere has been lost.

I was just about to comment onm both of those Macca!!! You cannot say that people who do not sing are not true fans, absolute ridiculous. They have probably supported city a hell of a long time before you did!

Older people is now 40!!! I am not there yet but not far off!! Down hill from there is it!!!

If we over 40s ( non singers and not true supporters )did not attend matches at the Ricoh there would be a average attendance of about 6000 !

What a load of shit!

So a man who has been going up for 50 years and not missed a home game is not a supporter but a 17 year old who has been twice this season and sings is more of a supporter?

Where I sit in the CET there is not much singing, I don't really sing much because I would be the only one and would look a fool but I am happy to sit and watch the game but I haven't missed many home games in about 5 or 6 years, does that make me not a supporter? I am supporting my club by paying the money to get in, by buying the shirts and by running a website for fans, but if I don't sing does that make me not as much of a fan?

The whole Singers Corner thing is a bit embarrassing too, it makes me cringe!

Yep, my exact thoughts and the singers corner thing, im glad I'm not the only one

Hate it when folk get all judgemental, "i am a better fan than you because I sing you dont". The important thing is that they are paying out damn good money to go watch and support their team in the manner they think best. They dont have to answer to anyone else. There is no test of supporting ability.

Yes its great it people get animated, get passionate, make some noise but to belittle others because they dont support in the same way as you really is wrong. Would be wonderful to have a ground full of people shouting support for our team but not everyone is like that, doesnt make them lesser supporters. Many of those fans who are not "proper" have probably spent thousands of pounds over many years supporting the team through thick and a lot of thin, completely unfair to sit in judgement because they dont support in the way others do. I also suspect it is an age thing. What is important is that we all support in the way each of us feel we can.

Just for the record myself and my lad sit in the CT Stand as season ticket holders, go to way matches when we can..... we have shouted ourselves hoarse, jumped up and down when goals scored, never booed our team, and had matches where we have said little but never left early from the dire fare produced, do we sing and chant every game no but we do sing and chant..... above all we support the team!. It takes all sorts folks.

Great if you are in singers corner etc ..... and sing your hearts out .... fair play to you..... doesnt make you better supporters than others, merely you express it more vocally. get over it !

I'm not saying you don't get behind the team. I'm saying that you do the same as the audience of a play, or a film in the cinema do and thats sit there and watch.

The original question is a really arrogant question. Just because someone doesn't sing, doesn't make them a non-supporter. I understand that you want as much singing as possible, however with the way we've played for the most of the season it has given the supporters no reason to sing and shout their hearts out.
If you want more singing from the tesco stand, you personally take a drum and a horn in there and start a few songs.

Personally I think watching is a good idea. Kind of the reason for actually being there rather than listening on radio really. Still if thats the way it is that to prove your worth as a supporter you have to sing like a performing monkey all game after 3 shandies fair enough. People moan non stop about lack of attendance now the are telling those that don't conform to their style of behaviour as non supporters. Typical Coventry

The problem I have with this argument about not singing is that the noise from the crowd is an important reason why football is so popular in the UK and around the world. When I watch Coventry it's kind of embarrassing that most of the time the stadium is quiet, you could also say that this can transmit to the players and diminish the home advantage that the team gets when they play at the Ricoh. But maybe I'm affected because I'm young and idealistic.

On a side note, why are the camera's in the stadium pointed towards the Lloyd's pharmacy stand where about 12 people sit. Whenever you watch Coventry on TV it makes the stadium appear well over half empty whereas if it was pointed towards the Tesco stand it would give a better image of the level of support

I agree, our fans are not as loud as others but i think that is down to the actual overall support the club gets, we are getting gates of 14-17K this season (roughly), this is not great and baring in mind 2K of those are away supporters that is piss poor. Persoanlly everyone who turns up week in week out should be applauded for their efforts whether they get pissed and want to sing or they take their kids and chose not to. Not better, no worse just different types of people wanting to support their team.

What makes us think other groups of supporters at other clubs dont have the same discussion?

When did all parts of the ground sing, (except on the odd special game) ? Every ground has a section or maybe two that leads the singing and chanting is that so different at the Ricoh. Why not be proud of it, proud you lead the singing and not put our own supporters down because they dont do as you or maybe individuals dont like they used to ?

Name one club where the whole ground sings for all of the game ? and harder still one that does it every match?

Occassions where the whole ground sings at any club are probably special moments in that season not the norm, listen to the matches on radios, watch sky etc.

Would be great if the noise generated by our away support was multiplied into the home support but there is no rule that says you have to sing.

I remember my days in the West End..... I remember standing with my mates.... the excitement of the big group.... the adrenaline as the likes of West Ham etc challenged our space.......... yes very many of us sang our hearts out ....... things can change though, it is no longer the freedom of youth, the responsibility of family and life can temper the reactions to.... but never the love of CCFC. Been there done it so dont assume the older fans of the club havent served their time

A vocal support enhances the experience on or off the pitch ..... it isnt the pre-requisite for total support of the club and team.

What we need is more people turning up, that will help generate an atmosphere, will become infecticious because of the close proximity to others and will let some of the shyer folk join in. But it wont be everyone and nor should we expect it to be..... comes to something when people imply there is no freedom to choose how we each support our team. Do you think telling people they are not proper fans encourages them to come back ?

Be grateful so many of us still do turn up over the years and bring our kids etc to continue it. Without the quieter majority there wouldnt be even the club we have today.

So lets all support the team............ in which ever way we choose to ...... there are no elite supporters ....only supporters who fit that support around the cards life has dealt them
