3rd time this season I've seen him. Wouldn't read any more in to it other than he no longer runs a rival club so has more time to watch his boyhood team. Wasnt quite sat with them either. Was actually sat on his own, the 3 tranmere (take your word they were directors, 2 bald 1 not) were sat on the same row but with about 5 empty seats between them....was at the game today. Sat with the Tranmere directors and officials.
Same as everyone else who has run them since the 1970s thenHe left Port Vale in a right state.

Some questions...Looked at his Wikipedia page when he took over the league asked Kyle oysten to be his mentor. Explains a lot.
Some people have hate for SISU but looking around there are many more dubious financially reckless owners in the leagues.
Some questions...
Did Smurthwaite take over the league? Who is Kyle Oysten? Why are you using Wikipedia as a reputable source for citing information?
Brilliant. It all makes sense nowClearly he means Karl Oysten

I think he was asked to become a major shareholder but politely declinedI am sure that about 10-12 years ago Robbie Williams bought into the Vale, paid about 200k to become a shareholder.

Ahhh that may be it then... They probably asked Phil Taylor but he was probably up his own arse too far to hearI think that new owners arrived not long later, and took on all of the shares including Williams's. Then 5 years later the new owner was in strife and asked RW to invest at which point he politely said no - that would be the instance you remember.
